The Prez Sez By Joe Fischer We are about two months from the end of our calendar year, and we are not done with doing things a little differently than in the past. We have one more membership meeting this year our annual banquet. This year the banquet will be on Monday, November 12 th, at the Beulah Brinton Community Center on Bay Street. That is not a typo; the banquet will be in November. Also new is the start time. In the past we have not been able to get into the room until 7 pm. This year the banquet will start at 6:00 pm and we will be able to get in and start setting up at 5:30. In addition to food, awards, and prizes we will hold the annual election for board members. This year there are three board positions that we will need to fill: Secretary, Social Chair, and Newsletter editor (Jill met with a horrible accident after an unauthorized update to the president s picture in the last newsletter--by the way, I am the short one.) Seriously that position is available. Anyway, if you think you might be interested in one of the positions please reach out to one of the board members, so we can answer any questions you may have. In keeping with the political season, let the bribes, blackmail, and arm twisting begin! Also, not new, but absent for a few years is the Packer Game and Chili Lunch Ride on Sunday, October 7 th. See the details in Kim s article below. Thanks to Andy and Kim for coordinating this ride and party. A special thanks to Janet Tallberg who has graciously provided the party room at her condo complex on Prospect Ave overlooking Lake Michigan for this event. In addition to the large party rooms, kitchen, and two TVs, there is also a large outdoor patio. We will ride the Oak Leaf North route starting at Janet s building which has its own Oak leaf Trail access followed by a chili potluck and Packer game. Thanks to The Zeigler s who volunteered to make vegan chili, and MaryJo Schwabe who will provide meat chili. Enjoy our weather and the last six weeks of scheduled club rides! And let s have fun out there. Joe Our club s new feather banner! Look for it at our events. Thanks Julie for your research and ordering it.

Membership We currently have 197 club members. Tours & Rides By Jill Litzenberg Club members have participated in so many rides and tours this season. It s great to learn about new rides and to hear about people s adventures! Eagle River to Conover September 7 Jill Linda Rich Joe Linda s Winnings from the Raffle We rode the SepTimber Fundraiser Ride in Eagle River. The ride was a fundraiser for the Vilas County bicycle trails. We had a gorgeous day with bright blue skies as we pedaled through the forest. The ride started/ended at the Tribute Brewing Company in Eagle River. There were many raffles prizes and Linda won! We had tasty beer samples and a brat lunch. The ride attracted about 250 people. That evening, Linda hosted us at her cabin in Harshaw on Little Bearskin Lake with a delicious lasagna dinner, dessert, and wine. Thanks Linda!
Pictures from the Northwoods from this Year If you ve never ridden in the Northwoods, treat yourself sometime and head north. The St. Germain, Eagle River, Boulder Junction, and Saynor areas are so beautiful and bicycle friendly. Both the forest roads and the bike trails are fabulous! The club is in the early stages of planning a big trip up there next summer. Watch for details coming up. Scenic Riders By Jill Litzenberg A weekly is being sent to members who are interested in riding with other riders at a slower pace. Riders are able to respond to the to let the 30 other people in the group know what days they are riding, what distance, and what speed (9-11 mph or mph). If you would like to be added to this list, please send me an . Newsletter@BayViewBikeClub.org
Ride Coordinator Responsibilities Being a ride coordinator is a great way to meet people and earn additional rider points. It s easy! Arrive at least minutes early so that all riders have time to sign the sign-up/waiver sheet. Provide the route map and cue sheet to riders after they sign the waiver. Before the Ride *Confirm that all riders have signed the waiver sheet. *Acknowledge new members and guests. *Ask riders which distance they will be riding including Scenic Riders group. *Relay route information updates and changes for road construction, detours, etc. *Mention rest stop opportunities. *Have riders do a quick buddy check to ensure that everyone is prepared for a safe ride: helmets on, packs zipped, quick releases secure, water bottles, etc. *Ask if anyone is interested in going out for lunch after the ride (with hand raise). *In case of an accident involving more serious injury or property damage, fill out the incident report that is enclosed in the packet with the cue sheets. This will allow a claim to be submitted to our insurer. Call 911 if needed. *Remind riders that we are obligated to follow the rules of the road. After the Ride (Things to provide to the Ride Chair Andy) *Return the waiver sheet and ride packet so that everyone can qualify for rider points and to satisfy our insurance requirements. *Note: Anyone can do the following *Include any items that were noted during the ride. *List any needed additions, clarifications or corrections to the cue sheet and map. *List any concerns regarding the route and any information which would improve the club experience the next time that the route is ridden. If, due to inclement weather or other route conditions, the Ride Coordinator deems it unsafe to ride as scheduled, he/she has sole authority to cancel the ride. In such cases, notify the Ride Chair Andy (BVBCBoard@gmail.org or text) of the cancellation as soon as you are able. If possible, post this information on the club Facebook page.

Send articles and pictures to me by the 10 th of each month. The Newsletter Editor position will open at the end of this season. Let a board member know if you are interested. Newsletter@BayViewBikeClub.org Ride Chair Updates By Andy Sikorski Take note that there have been a few minor tweaks to the October schedule: Sunday, October 7th: was Gorney Park -now- Oak Leaf North Saturday, October 13th: was LaGrange Southern Kettle -now- LaGrange Whitewater Lake Sunday, October 21st: was Oak Leaf North -now- Gorney Park The date swap between the 7th and 21st will allow us to have a Packer Party following the Oak Leaf North ride (see details elsewhere in the newsletter!). As for October 13th, the starting location is unchanged, but instead of the familiar Southern Kettle route, we ll be making our inaugural ride on the new LaGrange Whitewater Lake route which was rained out on September 1st.
