2 The Prez Sez By Joe Fischer Thank you everyone who volunteered and helped make the 2018 Tour de Cure a success. I am told they received a lot of positive feedback from the riders. Judging by the pictures I saw on Facebook, our club was well represented as participants, ride marshals, and staffing one of the rest stops. Thanks again to Julie Franco for organizing the rest stop. Julie also coordinated the design and purchase of a BVBC feather banner with our club name, logo and colors. It looks great and Julie got a good deal on it too even our treasurer Dean Mowery was impressed! We will use it at events like the W&S Expo and the Tour de Cure, and to serve as a rallying point for outdoor social events and club meetings such as our next membership meeting in September. We had a good turnout for our July club meeting at the Estabrook Park beer garden and everyone I talked to enjoyed themselves. We started with a bike ride at 6 pm followed by beer, food and socializing. And in-between we managed to squeeze in a membership meeting. Since that worked out so well we decided to do it again in September. More details to follow. It has been an especially busy month but I suppose that is true every year during the midsummer. In addition to our meeting at Estabrook Park and the Tour de Cure, we had our annual kayak outing, a bunch of members participated in the River West 24 for those that don t know that s 24 hours, not miles, and I have to give a shout out to the club members that rode the 175 mile RAW (Ride Across Wisconsin) finishing in under 14 hours. Anybody have a calculator? Congratulations you guys!! I am not mentioning names because I know I will leave somebody out. Anybody who did either of those rides doesn t deserve to be left out. Linda Roessl, Rich Temple, and I will be riding the SepTimber ride in Eagle River on September 8. It starts and ends at the Tribute Brewing Company in Eagle River and is 48 and 30 miles. (If there is anybody named Jens leading this ride, he will be wearing lederhosen, not bike shorts.) Let one of us know if you are interested in joining us on a nice ride in the north woods. See you at the next meeting! Look for the feather banner to find us in the park! And let s keep having fun out there! Joe
3 Our club s new feather banner! Look for it at our events. Thanks Julie for your research and ordering it. Words from our Vice President By Mike Dix September membership meeting will be at the Humbolt Park Beer Garden. Monday September 17th at 7pm. More details to follow.

There s a tree right outside the State Fair RV Park office, and she ll be there with the sign-up sheet. T-shirt pickup is at 9:00AM. Ride is at 10:00AM. I'd also like to plan a pot luck picnicc after a Saturday ride soon. Watch for upcoming and Facebook message. Hope to see you at some rides/or at local establishment after. If anyone wants to plan another social outing in conjunction with me that would be splendid. Be well, Kim Lamers Social@BayViewBikeClub.org Bike Fed Group Riding Information Please see the link below for the Bike Fed s brochure on group riding safety. This was our first time riding in the event so for next year we will work on some strategies in increase our point standings. And thanks to Joan Dadian that lives on the course to open her home for us to have a nice place to rest. 8 Newsletter By Jill Litzenberg All club members are welcomee and encouraged to submit articles of interest and pictures to the newsletter. Send articles and pictures to me by the 10 th of each month. Ride Coordinator Responsibilitiess Being a ride coordinator is a great way to meet people and earn additional rider points. It s easy! Arrive at least minutes early so that all riders have time to sign the sign-up/ /waiver sheet. Provide the route map and cue sheet to riders after they sign the waiver. Before the Ride *Confirm that all riders have signed the waiver sheet. *Acknowledge new members and guests. *Ask riders which distance they will be riding including Scenic Riders group. *Relay route information updates and changes for road construction, detours, etc. *Mention rest stop opportunities. *Have riders do a quick buddy check to ensure that everyone is prepared for a safe ride: helmets on, packs zipped, quick releases secure, water bottles, etc. *Ask if anyone is interested in going out for lunch after the ride (with hand raise). *In case of an accident involving more serious injury or property damage, fill out the incident report that is enclosed in the packet with the cue sheets. This will allow a claim to be submitted to our insurer. Call 911 if needed. *Remind riders that we are obligated to follow the rules of the road. After the Ride (Things to provide to the Ride Chair Andy) *Return the waiver sheet and ride packet so that everyone can qualify for rider points and to satisfy our insurance requirements. *Note: Anyone can do the following *Include any items that were noted during the ride. *List any needed additions, clarifications or corrections to the cue sheet and map. *List any concerns regarding the route and any information which would improve the club experience the next time that the route is ridden. If, due to inclement weather or other route conditions, the Ride Coordinator deems it unsafe to ride as scheduled, he/she has sole authority to cancel the ride. In such cases, notify the Ride Chair Andy (BVBCBoard@gmail.org or text) of the cancellation as soon as you are able. If possible, post this information on the club Facebook page.
