3 President s Report Page 3 Hi fellow Ulyssesians, The last month has been a very enjoyable month with a great & informative ride lead by Mousie to lookouts & landmarks on the Central Coast. Also a large group of branch members spent a weeks holiday in Port Macquarie & attended the Ulysses National AGM. While I was in Port Macquarie we had a few rides. The best was an early morning 7.30am ride to Gingers Creek Café & back with branch Secretary & Quartermaster. This would be close to the perfect ride! The sun was shining with blue sky, very slight chill in the air but not enough for winter gloves, the road was dry & clean, and nobody else on the road! When I arrived at Gingers Creek Café there was no one there & at first I was not sure if the café was open (it was) ordered coffee & waited for the other two to arrive. We had our coffees on the back deck with the warmth of the sun & only as we were leaving did a small group of bikes arrive. Also on the ride back I think I only passed 4 bikes. On the way back I suspect the Quartermaster may have been doing a little more than the speed limit! The perfect ride twice, & we stopped at the AGM site in Wauchope to have a look around the stalls & bikes. On the Friday Maryann Kennedy & I attended the extended AGM meeting for 3 hours & on the Saturday Garry Fuchs, Maryann Kennedy & I attended the AGM meeting for another 3 hours which included voting in a new National Committee with Jen Woods as President, Mark Seja as Vice President, Secretary Henry Rokx, Treasurer John Osborne, with committee Alan Pratt, Peter Baulch, David Wright. The 2020 National AGM was announced that it will be held by Northern Rivers NSW Branch in Lismore. I can highly recommend riding around the Lismore area, the scenery, & riding from the rain forests mountains of Nimbin down to the beaches of Byron & Brunswick Heads is amazing! That s enough for now, Time to start looking for the thermals! Q #61963 A really big thanks to Mike and the team at Peninsular Office Supplies for printing our Branch Newsletter. 5 Coffee Ride to Raymond Terrace, May 21st 2017 Page 5 The local scene was a bit quiet while a bunch of members were away at the AGM, but that didn't prevent a few staunch members from enjoying a fine day out. The day was so fine in fact, we couldn't bear to squander it on a short coffee ride. We headed north with the Hunter River in our sights. Scenic route to Toronto for morning tea. Nobody chose coffee. On through Wallsend, Sandgate and over the Hexham Bridge to Raymond Terrace pub for lunch. Cool drinks for all, again nobody chose coffee. Scenic route for the trip home through East Maitland, Buchanan and Mulbring. All smiling! Gav Lill #65483
6 Mousie s Lookout Ride Page 6 Sunday 4 June 2017 was a bit grey but no rain greeted 15 bikes and 17 riders at Maccas Woy Woy for a leisurely and informative ride around our beautiful Central Coast lookouts. This ride idea came to me after enjoy the Ulysses Wollondilly Wanderers (Mittagong) Anniversary weekend where they took visitors to interesting areas of Mittagong and spoke on points and areas of interest. Hence, our very own Central Coast Lookout Ride was born. We headed back through Woy Woy and up through some twists to Killcare Heights Lookout, called Mary Byles Lookout. A short talk was given on Killcare where we learnt that the name Killcare came from the term killing one s cares and was originally a fishing and farming village. We then rode through the back of McMasters Beach along some nice bends (albeit a bit wet) to the Terrigal Boatramp for a coffee and talk on Terrigal. It was formerly know by the Aboriginal name of Tarrygal meaning place of little birds. In 2011 the HMAS Adelaide was scuttled 1.3km off Terrigal Beach and is now a divers and marine paradise. Les and Dee joined us here for the ride. We headed on north through Forresters Beach and Bateau Bay to Crackneck Point Lookout, popular for whale watching. We learnt that Bateau is French for Boat so it was known as Boat Bay "until the early 1970 s. Continuing north through Long Jetty, The Entrance and up to Norah Head Lighthouse, our last lookout for the ride. Norah Head Lighthouse is swathed in history and since its construction in 1901 the light has evolved with technology from a candle, to a kerosene lamp to electricity and since then only 3 ships have been lost. Lunch was enjoyed at the iconic Catherine Hill Bay Pub which was jumping with other bike riders and a band. Bay area has undergone some changes lately with a large housing development starting nearby. Catherine Hill Thanks to those who came along to enjoy the short ride and informative talks. Many said how enjoyable it was to hear of the history of areas where we live. Mission accomplished. Judy (aka Mousie ). Woy Woy Wombats?
7 Ulysses Club AGM 2017 Page 7 Quite a contingent of our club members ventured to the AGM at Port Macquarie, some stayed for the week others breezed in for a day or two, everyone enjoyed themselves. The weather was grim on the Thursday and Friday leading up to the event which delayed some members but once we got there the sun smiled down every day with some days exceeding 24 C. Also some great foggy mornings. The whole event ended up a bit disjoined with the AGM site at Wauchope not being able to accommodate everyone but as it worked out our club congregated at the Port Macquarie Breakwall Caravan Park and did little outings to the AGM site and finally the AGM. Phil hosted us at his house for an afternoon of nibbles (Thanks Phil) and put up a variety of club members that breezed in and out from Woy Woy. Phil also took members on local rides like a ride to Crescent Head via South West Rocks and Kempsie. Great day for a ride unfortunately we were not able to avoid all the 80 KPH roadworks on the highway, but the road from South West Rocks to Crescent Head made up for it. At Crescent head we radied the Bakery with some members having extensive lists of things to bring back for other members. All in all a most enjoyable week to my first AGM, with the great Parade being the highlight of the week. Lots of photos on the website, some photos on the next few pages Peter Klatt, #63085
