4 From the Commander Hello, Saginaw Bay Sail and Power Squadron members. Summer and the boating season have finally arrived and we have abundant opportunities for boating activities.

4 4 From the Commander Hello, Saginaw Bay Sail and Power Squadron members. Summer and the boating season have finally arrived and we have abundant opportunities for boating activities. Pay a visit to the Bay City Yacht Club on Saturday, June 3, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the Eighth Annual Safe Boating Day/Classic Boat Show and Swap Meet, sponsored by 104 FM, The Bay. Or if you are downstate, stop by the D9 rendezvous in Port Huron. Our June 8 membership meeting, Cruising Lake Huron, by master cruiser, Craig Murchison, at the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club is not to be missed. As usual, cocktails are at 6:00 p.m. with the meeting at 6:45 p.m. We will order off the menu. This is our last meeting before our summer rendezvous, so please try to attend and show your support for Craig, and find out the latest on SBSPS. Please RSVP to Lt./C. Ken Bublitz, Lkbublitz@aol.com or And be sure to have one of our own expert vessel examiners put your boat to the test. The schedule of our examiners is on the next page. We should each earn and proudly display our USPS vessel safety decal. Summer highlights include our Port Austin and Tawas rendezvous. The Porch Fest in Port Austin is special - one of only two in Michigan, it is definitely fun and takes place right after our Saturday seminars in the harbor pavilion. For dinner, bring a dish to pass, a folding chair, BYOB and a tale or two. Have extra time? Arrive a week early and join the Great Lakes Cruising Club Rally, also in Port Austin, and stay over for our rendezvous. Have to miss Port Austin? Do not worry! Join us in Tawas the weekend of the Blues by the Bay Festival! Be sure to make your dock reservations. Membership is like a family affair. Our programs and rendezvous are our squadron s family gatherings and reunions - if you are not there, you are missed, so do attend all you can. And while enjoying your summer, be sure to boat safely and promote our squadron to novice and experienced boaters alike. We have much to offer! Rich Spitzer put in yeoman duty on our first day, Saturday, May 20 th, at Wheeler Landing Yacht Harbor, examining 10 boats, then returning the following weekend to do 4 more in addition to Pier 7 and Liberty Harbor. 6 6 EDUCATION America s Boating Course Highly Successful! 19 students spent their Wednesday nights from April 3 rd to May 10 th learning boat safety under the guidance of P/C William Shelt and certified instructor, Jack Tacey, at the U.S. Coast Guard station. All 17 examined thus far have passed, including (4) youth and adults from their 20s to 70s. The two students unavailable on exam day are sure to pass on their make-up day. ABC Attendees: Heidi A.
