1 THE ANACORTES SEAFARERS' MEMORIAL FUND KICKOFF AUCTION AND THIRD ANNUAL ANACORTES WORKBOAT RACES BANQUET For Immediate Release: The Anacortes Seafarers Memorial Fund Kickoff Auction and Third Annual Anacortes Workboat Races Banquet will take place Friday, August 26th 6:00pm 11:00pm at the Anacortes Elks Lodge No. 1204, at th St., Anacortes, Washington. The banquet will be the kickoff for the newly formed Seafarers' Memorial Fund, dedicated to the men and women who go down to the sea to work and do not return, and for the Third Annual Anacortes Workboat Races, celebrating the importance of the marine industry. Anacortes has a long maritime history and many fine local families have experienced the loss of their loved ones to the sea. The evening is dedicated to these men and women and their families. The families, the captains and crews of the race boats, and the public are invited to attend. The evening begins with a no host cocktail hour followed by a scrumptious buffet by Chef Jeff Rice. The evening continues with a live auction including a Discovery Channel Deadliest Catch Poster donated by Captain Keith Colburn of the F/V Wizard signed by the captains of the Deadliest Catch, and memorabilia from the F/V Time Bandit, the F/V Northwestern and the F/V Cornelia Marie with owner Morgan Howard and crew members of the Cornelia Marie also attending. There will be other items also up for auction along with donations from the Community. The evening will conclude with live music and dancing. Donations for the auction would be appreciated and can be left at the Anacortes Elks Lodge prior to August 25 th. Cost of the buffet is $15 with proceeds to be donated to the Memorial Fund. 4 PORT OF ANACORTES ANACORTES WORK BOAT RACES HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT Applicant hereby agrees to protect, indemnify, defend and to hold and save harmless the Port, its elected officials, agents and employees, their successors and assigns, heirs, executors, and administrators from and against all liabilities, obligations, fines, claims, claims for mechanics liens, damages, penalties, causes of action, costs and expenses (including without limitation attorney's fees and expenses), and any and all claims by or on behalf of any person or persons, firm or corporation, in connection with any such items of actual or alleged injury or damage, arising out of acts or omissions of the undersigned, its servants, agents, invitee, guests and employees on or about Port property, or arising out of the use of Port property or any part thereof, including but not limited to, floats, docks or piers, ramps and approaches, buildings, sidewalks, curbs, parking lots, streets or ways, or due to or arising out of any failure on the part of the undersigned to perform or comply with any rule, ordinance, or law to be kept and performed. 5 2011 Workboat Race Safety Guidelines As the third annual race unfolds, our safety record is unblemished and, with your assistance, we can keep it that way. The Workboat Race Committee, in conjunction with the Coast Guard, has developed the following to ensure that the 2011 race will be a safe and successful competition. 1. The purpose of the Workboat Race is to celebrate and showcase the maritime industry. Let s make the industry proud and put on a good show. Please remember radio and racing courtesy throughout the day. Let s have a good natured, spirited and safe competition. 2. The USCG Auxiliary will serve as our committee boat. The boat will monitor VHF channel 72 for race related communication. John Hachey will serve as the Race Coordinator. His cellular phone number is The Race Committee will conduct a Captains meeting for all participants at 12:00 on Saturday, August 27th at the Cap Sante Boat Haven at the Seafarers Memorial. Race Control will conduct a Race Day Safety Briefing just prior to the Parade at 13:00. Please tune to Channel 72 for the briefing. The Parade of boats will line up on the race course in the area east of Pier Two (Big Blue Tube) at 13: Keep the safety of your boat, your crew and passengers, spectators and other participants your number 1 priority. Prior to the parade and race, give your crew and passengers a safety briefing. Be advised that you will need to carry the required number of personal flotation devices (PFD) during the afternoon. We strongly suggest that everyone on your vessel wear a PFD while racing. 5. Participants must comply with all instructions provided by the race coordinator. 6. Boats are assigned to one of the racing classes based on length, horsepower, past performance and other factors deemed important by the Race Committee. You must participate in only the race that you are assigned. 7. Boats will start from a standing position. All boats must line up due east of the starting line boat. The race will not begin until all boats are in position, according to the race coordinator. 8. Participants must comply with all applicable Rules of the Road, even when racing. Minimum separation from the pier ends is 100 yards. The Turn Buoy is located at. 9. In the event of a collision, man overboard, or a life threatening emergency, a flare may be fired and/or whistle may be repeatedly sounded. On this signal all participants are to shut down immediately and stand by to render aid. 10. For the safety of all participants, a signed hold harmless agreement is being required. Please return this hold harmless agreement with your race registration form. (The agreement is in this packet). All boats or companies not following these safety guidelines shall be subject to disqualification from participation in future races. Thank you in advance for great year of safe racing!
