2 About Fall Pow Wow What Fall Pow Wow is Colonneh Lodge's premier event. It's a weekend full of trainings, competition, games, food, American Indian Crafts, and so much more. As years go on we grow as a lodge. In experience, in friendships, and in members. We continue to strive for greatness, and achieve it every year, so we raise the bar. As Arrowmen we must keep moving forward. To create new experiences, and remember past ones. To continue Building on Excellence 2

3 What to Bring Please note this list is not exhaustive. Use your camping experience to determine any other items you may need. Everyone A copy of your BSA Annual Health and Medical Record (this will be shredded at the end of the event, so bring a copy) Field Uniform and OA Sash Activity Uniform(s) Water Bottle Personal Medications (Must be on your medical form) Optional, But Helpful Hold Harmless Release for rock climbing (see Appendix A) Spending money for the Trading Post (great OA related stuff for sale!) Spending money for the Colonneh Café (still hungry after meals? come eat even more good food!) Smartphone or other webenabled devices Camera Watch Flashlight Camp Chair Tent Sleeping Bag Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant etc.) If you re staying the weekend Towel Sleepwear 2-3 pairs of socks 2-3 pairs of underwear Download the remind app for free on your smartphone we will use it to communicate with you all weekend! 3

4 Arrival and Check-In Travel Travel to and from Fall Pow Wow is the responsibility of the guest. Personal vehicles are welcome at the event. You might be able to arrange travel with other members of your chapter (see oa.shac.org/chapters for contact info). Check-in Times Check-In will be conducted from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Friday, November 4 and from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, November 5. Please do not arrive earlier or later than the times above as we will not be prepared to check you in. Parking Parking is available for all Fall Pow Wow participants. The staff will direct you to the proper parking area when you arrive. Documents and Fees To check in, please bring a copy of your BSA Annual Health and Medical Record, Parts A and B. They will not be returned. Hold Harmless Release for rock climbing (see appendix A) Also bring any outstanding dues or fees. Materials All guests will receive a program with a map, schedule, and other important information at check-in. Guests will also receive a wristband. It is very important all guests keep both items with them at all times. WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE We know that check-in won t be the most exciting part of Fall Pow Wow. However, our amazing check-in team will do their best to ensure the check-in process goes smoothly. We thank you for your patience and cooperation. 4

5 Activities and Program Games During the afternoon on Saturday, as well as other specific times, there will be a wide variety of games for Arrowmen to enjoy. You can take on your friends in a game of dodgeball or Ultimate Frisbee. Feel like some more relaxing activities? Come play video games and air hockey in the Brave Cave Friday and Saturday night. If you re feeling adventurous, give the rock wall a try. Training Tired of boring classroom style trainings? So are we! By having short sessions and a wide variety of training styles, training at Fall Pow Wow is designed for the Arrowman of today! Training will take place Saturday morning in various locations. Lodge Officer Elections Lodge officer elections are conducted every year at Fall Pow Wow. Candidates will speak during lunch, and all youth Arrowmen can vote from 1:00 to 3:30pm. Ceremony Competition Feel like you have a great ceremony team? Why don t you test it at Fall Pow Wow? Gather a group of friends and perform in front of judges. Plenty of ribbons to give, and we look forward to seeing you there Chapter Time A time for Arrowmen to meet with other members of their chapter, gather information, and hold chapter elections. Chapter Chiefs and Advisers will lead this activity in their assigned region area Saturday morning after training. Shooting Sports Arrowmen will have the opportunity to try out shotgun, tomahawk throwing and archery shooting at Fall Pow Wow. There s no need to buy tickets or pay per round - you can shoot as much as you want at no cost! Shooting sports will be open Saturday afternoon at the shooting ranges. 5

6 Activities and Program Indian Village and Pow Wow Dance An Arrowman-favorite, Indian Village offers exciting and hands-on classes and sessions throughout the day. Ever seen cool chokers or fans and wanted one of your own? Come make your own, and take it home! Want to learn how to drum or sing? Indian Village has all the answers! See an amazing exhibition of some of the best singers and dancers in the nation at the Pow Wow dance in the afternoon! Shows Fall Pow Wow will kick off with a welcome show on Friday evening. A wonderful show created by our youth, it will be a blast. Saturday night we will also have another show which will be followed by our Vigil Callout and movie night! Vigil Callout Immediately after the main show is one of the coolest experiences you ll have at Fall Pow Wow The Vigil Callout Ceremony. The Vigil Honor is the highest honor that the Order of the Arrow can bestow upon its members for service to their lodge, council, and Scouting. This impressive ceremony serves to recognize those that have been selected as candidates for the Vigil Honor. Vigil Reception The Vigil Reception is the time to congratulate all the new Vigil Honor candidates and socialize with your friends. Much More! We obviously can t cover everything that will be going on during this fun-filled weekend! Remember to bring extra money for the amazing Trading Post, and our awesome Colonneh Café. 6

8 APPENDIX A INFORMED CONSENT, RELEASE, HOLD HARMLESS AND INDEMNIFICATION AGREEMENT I understand that participating in certain activities, such as Climbing and Rappelling (the Special Activities ) at Tellepsen Scout Camp at Bovay Scout Ranch owned by the Sam Houston Area Council Boy Scouts of America (the Council ) involves a certain degree of risk that could result in serious injury, permanent disability or death. In consideration of the benefits to be derived by the person named below (the Participant ) in the Special Activities, after carefully considering the risk involved, and in view of the fact that the Council is a not-for-profit organization: ON BEHALF OF THE PARTICIPANT NAMED BELOW, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, I HEREBY RELEASE AND WAIVE ALL CLAIMS THAT I OR THE PARTICIPANT MAY HAVE IN CONNECTION WITH THE SPECIAL ACTIVITIES AGAINST THE FOLLOWING (THE COUNCIL PARTIES ): THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, THE COUNCIL, ANY SCOUTING CHARTERED ORGANIZATION, AND EACH OF THEIR AFFILIATES, AGENTS, SERVANTS, EMPLOYEES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS AND VOLUNTEERS. PARTICIPANT PARTY MEANS THE PARTICIPANT S PARENTS, GUARDIANS, HEIRS, EXECUTORS, ADMINISTRATORS, INSURERS, AND EACH OF THEIR ASSIGNS. IT IS THE EXPRESS INTENTION OF THE PARTIES HERETO, BOTH MYSELF AND THE COUNCIL PARTIES, THAT THE INDEMNITY PROVIDED FOR IN THIS DOCUMENT IS A RELEASE AND INDEMNITY BY ME TO RELEASE, INDEMNIFY, DEFEND AND HOLD HARMLESS THE COUNCIL PARTIES FOR THEIR OWN NEGLIGENCE, WHETHER THAT NEGLIGENCE IS THE SOLE OR CONCURRING CAUSE OF THE INJURY, DEATH OR DAMAGE. Due to the nature of programs and activities, the Boy Scouts of America, the Council and its employees and volunteers cannot continually monitor compliance of program participants or any limitations imposed upon them by parents or medical providers. However, so that leaders can be as familiar as possible with any limitations, list any restrictions imposed on a child participant in connection with programs or activities below. This Agreement will be construed under and governed by Texas law.
