They will be sporting stars on their badges, identifying them as new members. 4 th of July Events The Florida heat is here and while most people are hibernating in air conditioned places., it doesn t stop the FBYC faithful. While the temps rose, FBYC showed up with big numbers and at multiple events to celebrate our Nation s Birthday. - Up north in St Augustine, a half dozen or so boats headed up there for the 4 th of July weekend and another 20 or so people drove up there by car to join them on the 4th and to take in the fabulous fireworks show and dinner. - Down here in Flagler town, we had about 40 people show up in their patriotic attire in support of the FBYC float entry into the Annual Flagler Beach 4 th of July Parade. While a number of folks road in four decorated golf carts, they were lead by our own FBYC designed and built personal flotation boat being rowed down A1A by none other than Treasurer, Linda Jaeger, and a number of brave souls who chose to march. Of course, the boat was appropriately secured to the bed of a truck. As usual, we tossed over 200 mini-beach balls to the waiting arms of the younger parade watchers. 2 Page 2 Commodore - Continued.We never seem to have enough BB and they are truly the hit of the parade. - After the parade, over 50 people showed up at Commodore Len and Carol s house for some good ole fashioned hot dogs, BBQ ribs and corn on the cob. Mother Nature held off on the typical afternoon rain showers until our festivities were over. Everyone had a great time at all of our club events. Of course, all these event take many, many volunteers to pull all of them together and it is impossible to list all who helped. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in making them all a success. I would especially like to thank Rich Franco for heading up the parade effort for what must be the Umpteenth Time, rumor has it Rich, with his many parade trophies, has hanged up his FBYC Grand Marshal outfit. We have big shoes to fill. July Meeting Our July meeting was fun filled with cowgirl and cowpokes abound, along with country vittles and fixin s of all types. By some estimates we had close to 90 members and guests in attendance. Thank you Dave and Sue for pulling it all together. Kudos Incase you missed it, one of our members, Paul Wilhelmsen and his dog Ginger were recently featured in the Daytona New Journal as part of a local volunteer group called HasPooch Care. They, with their pet dogs, bring comfort to patients, their families and caregivers at Florida Hospital Hospice Care, Palm Coast, and also by visiting patient homes, nursing homes, and in-patient units. Ginger loves to mingle and socialize while providing a positive and soothing influence to those in local care centers. A special K-9 with a special disposition. Major kudos to Ginger and her chauffer Paul. New Member Applications The Executive Board has suspended taking new member applications for the next six months. Currently, we have 11 applications pending (21 applicants) and have again reached our membership cap of 150 members. The Board will reassess our position on this matter in 6 months. Remember No Monthly Meeting in August Our next monthly meeting will be on September 18 and the theme is Wine and Cheese. Carol and I will be out of town through 11 August so we ll miss the Daytona Cubs Game. As the song goes See You In September.

4 Page 4 Rear Commodore - Joe Linholm MEMBERSHIP Membership was busy in July due to the replacement of outgoing members. We had one single and two double boating memberships that did not renew. These slots were filled by the next boating applicants on the waiting list. Please welcome Rod Thomas, Bill and Muriel Dougherty and Frank and Violet Ruffalo to our club. Our July Meeting was a great success, with the Country and Western theme. I believe all the jailed inmates were properly charged and due justice was served. We did have the opportunity to welcome Ernie Conte and Judy O Neill into the club. They have been approved since January and finally made the move to Palm Coast over the 4 th of July weekend. We also welcomed Bill and Muriel Dougherty to our group. They had been on the wait list over a year and were very pleased to finally be welcomed into our club. They are in the process of upgrading from a 38 Express Cruiser to an aft cabin boat. (We used to call that two-foot-idess). We will be introducing and welcoming Rod Thomas and Frank and Violet Ruffalo at our September meeting. At our next event, please introduce yourselves to our new members and make them feel welcomed in the FBYC. There are now 11 Applications with 21 members on the waiting list. I would like to reach out to the sponsors of these applicants to contact them and check to see if they are still interested in becoming members. It was announced at the July meeting that a six month moratorium will be invoked. Therefore, the club will not be accepting new applications for memberships during this time. As usual the master Membership and Boat/ list has been updated so if you have a chance please go to the website and verify your info. If you have any discrepancies, please let me know and I will have them corrected. We now have our 150 members with 75.2% boaters. Please get out and enjoy a safe boat ride. Joe

For those coming by boat, call Mike Triano directly with this information as soon as possible. The sooner he has this information, the sooner he can try to have the boats grouped together. Slips will cost $2.02 a foot; we have the use of the pool and hot tub. We can have our own drinks by the pool but they cannot be in glass containers. There is entertainment every night and a dance floor is available. For those coming for supper on the 16 th at 5.00 p.m: If you signed the sheet for dinner at the July meeting, no problem; if you haven t signed the sheet, contact Mike at or him at mtpalmcoast@yahoo.com. Seating is limited to about 60 people. 2-The Astor pontoon trip will be on Sept. 20, The total number of FBYC members allowed will be 50, and it will be on a first paid first to go. So far 30 members have paid. If you have not yet paid, please mail your checks to the address listed below. If you re not going to attend but have signed the list please contact me at (386) so I can take your name off the list and someone else is September 6, 2014, and all payments must place to allow the marina and restaurant to prepare for our event. The restaurant is located at the marina and we will eat immediately upon our return from boating. You are responsible for bringing your own libations. Some of us will be renting a room at the marina for the night. The rooms are dated but clean and they are giving us a discount on the room, and the bar is next door with another restaurant/bar across the river. We are obtaining a group of rooms directly on the river with picnic tables to hang out at. Any other questions concerning this event you may contact Patrick Tooker as he is the lead for this event. 3- The final event to mark on your maritime calendar is the New Smyrna Beach boat trip on October 10, 11, and the 12, Six boats have signed up so far. The sign-up sheet will be out at the September meeting. Other information about this event will be presented at that time.

7 Page 7 HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS 5 tips to ensure your boat s safety in a storm While only nine named storms might be predicted this Atlantic hurricane season, boaters should avoid becoming complacent in case the season is more active than forecast. Prepare by following these five tips. CHECK YOUR INSURANCE. A boat damaged by a hurricane can wind up costing far more to fix than a marine insurance policy costs annually. Review your boat policy s requirements, and comply with them. Boat owners whose insurance requires them to relocate their vessels out of a hurricane zone should do so by the date specified in their policy. MAKE A PLAN. Most insurance providers require a formal written storm plan detailing where and how your boat must be secured during a major storm. Designate a responsible person to execute the plan is you are out of town when a hurricane threatens. SECURE YOUR BOAT. Check with your marina, storage facility or the owner of the private dock where your boat is moored to be sure the vessel can remain there during a hurricane. If it can stay, know the procedure for securing not only your boat by those docked around it as well. A boat that breaks loose a hurricane can wind up damaging your boat. DECIDE WHERE YOU HAVE TO STORE YOUR BOAT. If you have to move your boat from its current slip in the event of a storm, decide where you are going to have it hauled before a hurricane is forecast. Check with your local Sea Tow operator to see what pre-storm haul-out services are offered in your area. TAKE STOCK OF YOUR BOAT. Make an inventory, preferably by video, of all valuable fixed items such as marine electronics that you cannot remove from your boat. Store all the boat s documents, including your marine insurance policy, in a secure place off the vessel. LASTLY, keep an eye to the sky, and closely monitor local and national weather services, including NOAA Weather Radio and the National Weather Hurricane Center.
