2 NBYC Members, March was a very busy and productive month that included an exciting evening for the Cruiser of the Year Dinner with Arnie and Penny Litteken acknowledged as our 2017 Cruisers of the Year. A Land Yacht Cruise to the Outer Banks mid-month celebrated St. Patrick's Day, and last week we christened the NBYC 25th Anniversary with a party and toast on the club's founding date of March 23, And we'll continue the celebration throughout the coming year! Winter is reluctantly giving way to Spring and everyone's thinking about outdoor activities and time on the water. April has a great line up of club events and cruises that starts with the annual Ladies Luncheon, followed by our yearly Shakedown Cruise to Oriental, which also kicks off cruises to the Albemarle Loop and then north to Washington DC, and the month finishes with our local Blessing of the Fleet. Keep an eye out for updates and join in on the fun! Are you looking for details about club events and cruises? As a matter of fact, almost everything you need to know about the New Bern Yacht Club can be found on the website! As you know, NBYC prides itself on its success as a volunteer driven organization. With few exceptions everything the club does and owns is the result of Member participation. We have actively engaged management and committees keeping us at a high level of successful events, interesting cruising adventures, and a beautifully maintained property! Looking to get involved? Please speak with any of our Board Members and become involved with improving your club! We are really looking forward to enjoying and sharing NBYC events, cruises and club management activities with all of you. 3 2018 Cruising March featured the Cruiser of the year Dinner where everyone in attendance had their fill and then relaxed for the recognition of miscues on the water on the part of various Club members during the past year. There were red faces as the miscreants were presented memorabilia marking their deeds. The climax of the evening was the presentation of the well-deserved Cruiser of the Year Award to Arnie and Penny Litteken in recognition of their participation and leadership in the past year s cruise program. By the time you read this the new water system on the docks, necessitated by the cold winter, will have been installed. Next will be pressure washing of the docks followed by sealing them. All though it doesn t look like it, there is only one vacant slip. All the others are spoken for. The cruising season is fast upon us leading off With the Shakedown Cruise April in Oriental. Following on the Shakedown is the Albermarle Loop being Captained by Arnie and Penny Litteken. Also, in April is the Blessing of the Fleet on the 28 th at the New Bern Grand Marina. This event is being Captained by Karl Lichty and hopefully will feature a flyover by Cecil Boyd. Sometime in May there will be a flash raft-up for large and small boats. Keep tuned. Then at the end of May and into June there will be the follow-on cruises to Ocracoke and Manteo. It s not too early to sign up. Ship s Store We are very excited about the latest Ship's Store item ready for immediate purchase: a New Bern Yacht Club inscribed stainless steel 15-ounce coffee mug with handle. A bargain at only $10. Of course, Tervis tumblers, notecards, glass ware, hats, visors, men's and women's shirts, burgees and license plates are at the Ship's Store table. The New Bern Sporting Goods catalog is available for perusal with various logos and writing options for embroidering. I will always help you find what you need.
