The fresh flower arrangements on the tables gave us a hint of spring and the slides showing the Moorings sailing adventures left us all ready to pack for warmer climes. Mike ended his program with a slide of a snowy landscape and the caption, Back to Reality. As I write this, snow is definitely our reality. A shifting wind from the north is creating white caps on Fisherman Bay, and snow covered boats are peppering downwind vessels with white powder. While it might seem like a good time to throw another log on the fire, it is an even better time to get on board for Lopez Island Yacht Club s cruising destinations. This past meeting, Rear Commodore Duane Bordvick introduced a great schedule of cruising events. Duane also enlisted the aid of longtime sailor Gary Zerbst to schedule close to home sailing destinations. Gary passed out sailboat cruising questionnaires. All members are welcome and encouraged to participate in new cruising adventures. If you are a sailor, contact Gary at for a questionnaire. And, look for the Rear Commodore s Cruising Sign-up Boards at the March 16th potluck meeting. Speaking of the March 16th meeting, and in keeping with the current weather situation, we have planned a program featuring a video entitled Cruising North to Southeast Alaska. The video explores the best of British Columbia s magnificent sights on the way up the Inside Passage, and includes an in-depth look at what can be seen and experienced in this great waterway: bears, sea otters, eagles, whales, salmon runs, shrimping and crabbing in the wild.
