An electronic Trestle Board The purpose and intent of this electronic trestle board is to develop a monthly source to disseminate pertinent information to our members and provide a venue for you, the member, to express your ideas and opinions, post photos, report news, advertise your business and whatever else you might want it to be. Please don t hesitate to use and share it! An Open invitation.. The Open Air Degree will be held at the Masonic Park in Granit Falls on August 1st The District 4 Picnic will be held on August 19th, Noon to 4 at the Nile Temple picnic area A Maritime Lodge meets on the second Monday of the month for a light dinner at 6:15, followed by the Stated meeting at 7:30 (We are dark July, August & December). Maritime Lodge welcomes all Masons of any degree at our Stated communications. To our members: You are very important and your attendance at Lodge meetings is appreciated. Flood Brother Ken Van-Cooten, Senior Warden Issue 8, July 2015 Brother Aaron Cohn, Junior Warden As the Lodge is dark for a couple of months I haven t beat up the three principle officers for an article, but have retained their pictures just so you won t forget what they look like, so.. Of special Note: The Worshipful Master has asked that the brethren be informed that the dress code for the September meetings will be shirt-sleeve. Hence, should you show up in coat and tie it will be evident to all that you don t read the Slip Knot. How about a little Lodge news. The Installation will be on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 5 PM. All of the Installing Officers have been confirmed and the line has been pretty well set with only a couple of holes to fill. The other details are coming together. The invitations will be mailed in early August, so that should give everyone time to adjust their schedule The Sunshine Report WB Bob Haslan continues in his recovery, so let s all keep him in our thoughts and prayers and hope that his recovery is swift. WB Gene Ross although very active and helpful lining things up for the Installation and his work with the Scholarship committee, continues with his recovery as well. Both of these very dedicated Brothers deserve our thoughts and prayers and a cheer call wouldn t hurt either. 2

3 Notice Notice Notice Until someone submits something else, you re going to have to endure this crap that I write. I would prefer that what we fill these pages with be your knowledge, wisdom, ideas, cares and concerns. So, do yourself and the rest a favor and submit an article to help fill this void. TC What if? By WB Tony Corning In May, Maritime Lodge held a Special Membership meeting. Many things were discussed at that meeting with regard to the future of the Lodge. The 2015/2016 line was discussed, the up-coming Installation of Officers was discussed, but little was said about the long term welfare of the Lodge until it was suggested that we put together a plan to carry the Lodge through to at least our 100th anniversary in That seems like a tall order considering that we are having trouble filling the line, but What if; What if.we all commit to doing whatever it takes to achieve that goal? What if.we change our entire approach? Until now we have met, had a little dinner, practiced some fairly poor ritual, conducted a little lodge business, closed Lodge and gone home. Throw in a Degree now and then. Not too exciting? If we continue to do the same things, how can we expect different results? We could go back to eating out, we could have a few practices and improve the ritual, we could conduct 90% of the business prior to Lodge and we could stop for a pop after and spend more time with the family. What if.we spend a little money? We ve got a couple of nickels to rub together. It s been agreed that the Lodge would pony up half the fare for social activities, and in September we will set in place a budget to accommodate future fun. What if.we continue with social activities that involve the wives and families? Recently the Lodge hosted a brunch in Edmonds, we had a car in the Greenwood annual Seafair Parade, we hosted a trip to Tillicum Village for an authentic Indian salmon bake and we can have other fall and winter events, one being the train or bus to Leavenworth s Christmas Tree Lighting in December. So far these event have drawn meager attention, but every journey begins with the first step. What if.you suggested an event that strikes your interest? Or better yet ask your wifes! There is no end of things to do. A couple of weeks ago I toured the Georgetown Steam Power Plant, had a great lunch at a local restaurant and went on to the Tunnel Museum. That might not sound too interesting to some, but actually it was the women on the tours who asked the best questions! (both free). What if.we had a Lodge picnic at your house? What if.you just submitted ideas or asked your wife to submit hers. 3

Recently, VWB Blair and I presented two third grade boys with bikes for the Bikes4Books program. What a delight! It was especially exciting for me, because I attended third grade once (My older brother fell sick one day and I got to wear the shoes! And no, I m not insinuating that Blair didn t attend third grade). But we can do more! We just have to identify what it is. Know anybody that needs help or have a cause that we might support? Call the secretary and let the Lodge know. After writing these What if s I had to wonder, what if they weren t What if s, but Why not s or better yet I have or We have? Wouldn t that be a kick? In the end, we all joined Maritime Lodge because we wanted to be a part of something special, let s work together to make it so. The 2015 Greenwood Seafair Parade On the left is your car in the Greenwood 2015 Seafair Parade. On the right are the beautiful granddaughters of VWB Ian Hyde and WB Tony Corning who rode in the car. From left to right are Sophie Hyde, Holli Hunter and friend Jaymaya. WB Don Lyman and his granddaughter rode in the parade as well. We all had a ball! When you can put that kind of smile on a kid s face, you ve struck gold!. Greenwood Lodge had a crew that walked and passed out candy accompanied by VWB Ian Hyde. Job s Daughters had a team of girls that carried their banner, passed out candy and greeted the crowd. The Greenwood Chapter of Eastern Star had a car ahead of us and Rainier Lodge had three beautiful antique cars that led the pack. It was a great afternoon for all who attended! 4

5 Let s talk visitation. Visitation does take time and effort, but it can be very rewarding. Visitation is a multi-faceted affair. A visit to another Lodge does a number of things: first, upon entry you announce that you and your Lodge are vital and interested, that you care about your Masonry and that you have a desire to expand your Masonic horizons. More importantly though, that you care about their Masonry, that you are interested in what they are doing and how they go about their business. There is always some variation in the ritual and it s always interesting to see. Beyond that it affords you the opportunity to rekindle old friendships and foster new ones.
