Nancy and Bob Unferth celebrated their 55 th anniversary September 1 st 1 Be sure to read the information about the fall Indian Culture Tour and the signup sheet for activities on pages 4 and 5 at the end of this newsletter PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Hope that all of you have had a good summer and are getting excited about our upcoming Global Exchange. Bob and I just returned from our week long river cruise on the Snake and Columbia Rivers. We saw lots of smoke, but this didn t keep us from learning a lot about Lewis and Clark and the area. Future journeys are in the works. Jean Ohlde is coordinating an incoming journey from Kiel, Germany in April Pete Frasier is coordinating journeys to Central Montana and Spokane Washington. Definite dates are being worked out but we are trying for late July and early August Velda Miller is coordinating journeys to the Netherlands and to Vohtland, Germany. In the journey to the Netherlands will be 5 days only. We are trying for September Both clubs are small and are limited on numbers they can host, if you are interested, let Velda know.

Also we are working on journeys for 2020 and 2021. These are from people asking to visit us. Since we are going to Europe in 2019, we must wait 3 years before we can go there again.

I want to thank Larissa Marinelli and Martina Koch for serving on the nominating committee. Also thanks to those who have agreed to run for office next year. We will vote on the 2019 officers at our November General Meeting. Thanks to the many people have been working on our October Global Exchange. Important lunch meeting September 22 nd 12 noon Scotts Generations 742 E Glendale AVe suite 142 Phoenix AZ You will receive a last minute agenda, detailed driving directions, arrange for shared driving to activities; and answers to all questions to make the journey a fun cultural experience for all. We know some hosts will not be back in AZ and we will get the information to you before Oct 1 On Oct 5 the All aboard American bus will leave from Fry's parking lot on I-17 at 8;30. We will arrive at Sunset Crater at 11Am. Bring National park passes. I suggest you find a friend to drive you to the parking lot. We will talk about getting there together at the planning meeting. Oct 10 Return time expected to be 5-5;30 pm Again rides need to be arranged We will call drivers from Winslow which is 2:1/2 hours from l-17, The bus has luggage space over head for jackets and room for small bags in luggage compartment. Because we have 40 passengers we encourage small bags. Peanut Allergy One ambassador has a peanut allergy so please do not bring anything containing peanuts on the bus. Snacks and drinks will be provided by the club Oct 12 in Tucson Vans leave Bell rec center at 8Am (West valley ambassadors) Leave Denny's Guadalupe exit (east valley ambassadors) The dinner at Ramona farms is scheduled for 5;45 it is difficult to give an arrival time. We will return to Denny's and Sun City but best guess is between 8 and 8;30 If you are not going on the Tucson trip please give your phone number to your ambassador and they will call you with pick up time. We know

3 this is a long day but staying over night was not in the budget. and we needed to include Tucson for the Spanish Culture. We now have 23 ambassadors who we will share with our club the fun rich culture of the southwest thanks everyone who has helped plan this very large journey experience. If you have not signed up for activities that you plan to attend with your ambassadors please send money to Jean Ohlde (see page 5 for info and address). Much of the costs for these activities is being paid for by the ambassadors so please take advantage of the Indian cultural opportunities. 4 AMERICAN INDIAN CULTURE JOURNEY Oct 1-14, 2018 MARK YOUR CALENDERS Our club journey Walk through History and experience Authentic American Indian and Spanish Culture of the Southwest WALK IN THEIR SHOES. Oct 1 to 14, Coordinators are Jim and Catherine Trapp and Pat and Al Forsythe Al just read (Code Talkers) by Chester Nez, an original code talker, and recommends we all read it. The success of this journey for the 22 ambassadors from around the world ( ATL has a waiting list) depends on club members participation. Following is a list of activities specially arranged for the ambassadors and our club members for the 8 days they are hosted. Details and costs are attached. All reservations will be made with Jean Ohlde (coordinator for home stay activities). Checks made out to Friendship force.
