1 Welcome October 2014 Welcome to the latest edition of the Getting Gippsland Active Newsletter. The newsletter aims to link people with opportunities to get more active within their local community. People can subscribe directly to the Newsletter online at and comments and information can be sent to October is Australia's walking month. Walktober Walking is a terrific form of exercise. It strengthens your body and helps position your spine in the natural shape it was designed for being upright. Modern lifestyles such as office work and extended use of computers or mobile devices can force us to be less active or adopt sedentary positions leading to poor posture, issues with balance and coordination, and even pain. When walking properly you naturally adopt proper posture. Because regular walking will also build up your core strength, an important ingredient in maintaining good posture, it will help you to maintain better posture during your other daily activities. To find out what is happening in your area, or to register an event for Walktober go to Healthy Wellington are pleased to introduce Karen and Rosemary, who have recently registered as Heart Foundation Walk Organisers. Karen and Rosemary will be leading walks from the Rosedale Neighbourhood each Monday and Wednesday afternoon at 2:00pm. The group meets at the Rosedale Neighbourhood and the walks are about minutes in duration. Karen will also lead the Lake Guthridge walk, which takes place each Monday afternoon from 4:00pm. Meet at the Lake Guthridge sign, near the car park and BBQS on Foster Street. The walk is minutes in duration. Contact Karen on or register online for both walks: heartfoundation.org.au/active-living/walking
