1 Community Resource Guide Helping Illinois Children and Families Choose Active Lifestyles Park District Park District 320 W Jackson Avenue, The Park District maintains 139 parks and numerous facilities, including golf courses; tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts; baseball, softball, football, and soccer fields; ice rinks; in-line hockey rinks; sledding hills; skateboarding parks; playgrounds; trails; a disc golf course; and a swimming facility. Various programs for youth are offered including swimming lessons, a swim team, dance classes, camps, and sports and fitness courses such as cricket, fencing, in-line skating, gymnastics, hockey, rock climbing, baseball, soccer, and yoga. Sports & Fitness Programs Fry Family YMCA 2120 W 95th Street, The Fry Family YMCA has a pool, gym, aerobics studio, fitness center, family game area, gymnastics equipment, and supervised play area for children ages 6 to 10, which includes a climbing wall. The YMCA offers youth sports, dance, and summer camps. American Institute of Gymnastics 881 Shoreline Drive, Aurora om The American Institute of Gymnastics offers classes in tumbling, cheerleading, and gymnastics for children 2 to 18 years old. Both recreational and competitive programs are offered. Aurora Family YMCA 460 Garfield Avenue, Aurora The Aurora Family YMCA has pools, a gym, a fitness center, handball/racquetball courts, an outside running track, and a supervised play area. The YMCA offers youth sports, dance, and summer camps. Edward s Health & Fitness Center at Seven Bridges 6600 Route 53, Woodridge &otopid=786 Edward s Health & Fitness Center at Seven Bridges offers Club Fitkidz for children ages 6 weeks to 15. Programs in tumbling, yoga, gymnastics, hip hop, basketball, soccer, swim lessons, and much more are offered. Edward also offers a summer camp called Kamp Fit-To-Go. Field House Family YMCA 31 W 290 Schoger Road, house.htm The Field House Family YMCA has basketball, volleyball, and soccer courts, an indoor track, fitness center, and batting cages. The YMCA offers youth sports, dance, and camps. Galaxy Soccer Club 1355 S Route 59, Galaxy offers youth soccer teams and clinics. Kroehler Family YMCA 34 S Washington Street, Kroehler Family YMCA has pools, handball/racquetball/walleyball courts, a gym, and supervised play area. The YMCA offers youth sports, dance, gymnastics, and aquatic programs (including a competitive swim team) and summer camps. My Gym Children s Fitness Center 4008 Fox Valley Center Drive, Aurora My Gym offers programs for children up to 13 years including noncompetitive gymnastics, fitness, song, dance, relays, and games.
2 Baseball Association Baseball Association offers baseball for youth Central Redhawks Hockey Association 1212 S Naper Blvd #119, Redhawks provide ice hockey programs for students attending Central High School. Diamonds Softball Association 3836 Grassmere Road, diamonds The Diamonds provide girls an opportunity to play softball at levels consistent with their skills. Lightning Soccer Club P.O. Box 4287, Lightning Soccer Club offers traveling soccer teams for youth as well as soccer programs. There is Little League Baseball P.O. Box 4917, league Little League has five geographic leagues. Baseball programs are open to all boys and girls ages 8 to 12. North Huskies Hockey Club The organization offers competitive hockey teams for North High School students. Pop Warner Cheer and Football League 2559 Bangert Lane, warner Pop Warner offers competitive cheerleading and football teams for youth. Soccer Association 1465 Farington Court, The Association offers traveling soccer for youth ages 8 to 18. A coed program to teach children basic soccer skills is offered for children ages 5 to 7. Indoor skills clinics are also offered. Soccer Club Soccer Club offers soccer for boys and girls ages 8 to 12. Tennis Club 1011 E Benton, Tennis Club offers tennis lessons for children ages 4 to 18. The Club also has a 6 lane pool, children s pool, and diving board. Open swimming and swimming lessons are available for club members. Youth Football and Cheer League The league offers in-house and traveling football and cheerleading programs for boys and girls ages 6 to 14. Rush-Copley HealthPlex 1900 Ogden Avenue, Aurora The HealthPlex offers basketball, karate, rock climbing, and tennis programs for youth. The Discovery Club is available for children ages 3 to 12 and focuses on health, exercise, and personal achievement through sport skills, physical fitness, dance, aquatics, and nutrition programs. The Sports Training Academy offers individual, group, or team training for children 3 to 12. The Little Gym of 2603 Aurora Avenue, #127, The Little Gym offers classes in gymnastics, karate, and sports skills for children 3 to 12 years of age. Summer and holiday camps are also available.
3 X2 Youth Fitness th Street, #159, X2 is a fitness facility designed exclusively for youth ages 10 to 18. The facility offers circuit training, fitness assessments, nutrition lectures, and interactive technology to make exercising fun. Hours available on Web site. There is YMCA Child Development Center 460 Garfield Avenue, Aurora The YMCA Child Development Center offers Safe n Sound before and after school care at schools throughout Districts 203, 204, and Fearn Elementary in District 129. The center also offers Kid Connection, a days-off program, for District 203 and 204. Recreational Activities All Seasons Ice Rinks 31 W 330 N Aurora Road, All Seasons offers open skating, skating and hockey lessons, a hockey club, and clinics. There is Blackberry Farm 100 S Barnes Road, Aurora facilities/bbf/bbf-intro.html Blackberry Farm is a living history museum comprising 54 acres. Its grounds include a lake, ponds, a stream, arboretum, and gardens. Pioneer Village has various museums, ponies to ride, a train, carousel, and period craft demonstrations. The park also has a self-guided trail to explore and opportunities for bird watching. School field trips are welcome. The park is open from May 1 to Labor Day. There is a fee for Pioneer Village; season memberships are available. Hours and fee information available on Web site. Centennial Beach 500 W Jackson Avenue, Centennial Beach is s public swimming facility. A sand beach, sand volleyball, and playground are available. The facility is open from May to September. Daily and season passes available. Disc Golf Course at Knoch Knolls Park 336 Knoch Knolls Road, The disc golf course is nine-holes and is open year round. Course rules are posted on site. Naperbrook Golf Course W 111 th Street, Plainfield Junior players are welcome at Naperbrook Golf Course. Lessons are available for youth. There is a fee. Naper Settlement 523 S Webster Street, Naper Settlement is a 19 th century living history village. It has 13 acres and 30 historic buildings and structures to explore. Naper Settlement has a hands-on activity center where children ages 3 to 10 learn about history through play. Naper Settlement also offers several summer camps for children ages 5 to 11. Special events and programs for children and school groups are offered. Hours and fee information available on Web site. Paddleboat Rides at The Quarry On the Riverwalk, near the corner of Jackson Avenue and Eagle Street,, press 3 for more information Two-passenger and four passenger paddleboats are available for 20 and 40 minute rides. Paddleboats operate on non-school days, May through Labor Day (weather permitting), from 10:00 a.m. to one hour before dusk. Fee is $7 and $9. Skate Park at Centennial Park 500 W Jackson, The skate park includes skating elements such as half-pipes, quarter-pipes, fun boxes, and rails. The skate facility is open to skateboarders and in-line skaters.

The skate facility is open to skateboarders and in-line skaters. Sport Zone Park 100 Business Route 30, Sport Zone Park is a year round facility offering indoor soccer, baseball, softball, and golf. Boys baseball and girls fast pitch softball programs are available. There is Springbrook Golf Course 2220 W 83 rd Street, Junior players are welcome at Springbrook Golf Course. Lessons are available for youth. There is Trails DuPage River Trail East and west ends of the Riverwalk The DuPage River Trail is a paved trail that runs parallel to the DuPage River at the east and west ends of the Riverwalk. The trail may be used by walkers, runners, rollerbladers, or bicyclists. Fermilab Trail Located in Batavia, the east access is off Batavia Road just west of Highway 59. The west access is off Kirk Road about ¾ miles north of Butterfield Road on/index.html Fermilab has a four mile paved trail that is available for biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, and roller blading. Fermilab also has two prairie trails, a 20-minute walk and a 60-minute walk. Fermilab offers a variety of nature experiences including birds, butterflies, deer, geese, and a herd of buffalo. Field guides are available for kids and teachers. Fermilab grounds are open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. mid-october to mid-april and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. when daylight hours are longer. Fox River Trail frtrail.htm The Fox River Trail stretches 33- miles along the Fox River from Algonquin to Aurora. The trail is available for hiking, biking, crosscountry skiing, and jogging. There is no fee. Illinois Prairie Path or or guide.pdf The Illinois Prairie Path is a 55-mile hiking and biking trail that cuts through central DuPage County. Pedestrians, bicyclists, and horseback riders are welcome on the trail. RiverWalk Downtown or The Riverwalk is 3 miles of brick walking paths that wind along the DuPage River through downtown. The Riverwalk features covered bridges, gazebos, playgrounds, fountains, and a carillon. Special events take place throughout the year along the Riverwalk. The path is open year round from dawn until midnight (some areas close at 10 p.m.) Virgil L. Gilman Nature Trail Business Route 30 near Montgomery Road in Aurora vgtrail.htm The Virgil Gilman Trail is a paved trail approximately 11 miles long; hikers, bikers, and cross-country skiers are welcome on the trail. A variety of birds, plants, and trees can be viewed from the trail.
5 Forest Preserves Blackwell Forest Preserve Main entrance on the north side of Butterfield Road, ¼ mile west of Winfield Road and one mile east of Route 59 in Warrenville. blackwell.html There are more than seven miles of trails at Blackwell Forest Preserve. Multipurpose trails can be used by horseback riders, cyclists, hikers and cross-country skiers. Blackwell s Regional Trail connects with the Illinois Prairie Path. Boating is allowed at Silver Lake. Visitors may bring their own approved watercraft or rent canoes, rowboats or motorboats by the hour or the day. Other activities include a compass course, cross-country skiing, ice skating, tubing, sledding, and dog sledding. Blackwell is open daily from one hour after sunrise to one hour after sunset. No fee for use of forest preserve; fees for boat and snow tube rentals. Greene Valley Forest Preserve rve Located off Greene Road, between Hobson Road and 75 th Street in greenevalley.html Greene Valley has more than 10 miles of trails that wind through various ecosystems. Hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding are permitted. Greene Valley is open daily from one hour after Lake Renwick Preserve W Renwick Road, Plainfield Lake Renwick has trails for hiking and biking. The preserve features a heron rookery; spotting scopes are available so visitors may view herons and egrets nest building, feeding and caring for their young, and searching for food. McDowell Grove Forest Preserve Located on Raymond Road at McDowell Avenue, just south of the I-88 Tollway in mcdowellgrove.html Open daily from one hour after McDowell Grove sits on the banks of the West Branch of the DuPage River and has more than five miles of looped trails for hikers, bikers, cross-country skiers, and horseback riders to enjoy. The preserve is open daily from one hour after Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area Fox Road, Yorkville /parks/r2/silversp.htm The Fox River runs through this beautiful area that boasts bubbling springs and several small manmade lakes. Hiking, sledding, ice skating, and cross-country skiing is available.
