2 Welcome Message from Museums Australia WA On behalf of the Museums Aust ralia (Western Australia) staff and Board, I welcome you to our 2016 Conference, held in the vibrant Perth Cultural Centre. The Conference considers the ways in which we are engaging our communities today and will be exploring creative approaches to planning, working with community and activating museums, galleries, collections or heritage attractions in contemporary contexts. We are delighted to showcase the work of people in the museums, galleries and collections across this state and beyond, inspiring us towards more connected, sustainable and innovative approaches to working. Government House Open Day Each year the Office of the Governor coordinates Open Day events that attract thousands of people from across the community to the Government House Domain. Open Day is a wonderful opportunity for members of the community to visit and see inside Government House and tour the beautiful gardens and grounds. Gwalia s Gold: Its People and Places In 2015, the Shire of Leonora commissioned Multimedia Journalist Kate Ferguson to capture the remarkable story of Gwalia s people, places and preservation. Titled Gwalia s Gold its people and places - the exhibition, funded by the Minara Community Foundation grant, consists of 90 photographs and a video documentary, featuring tales of residents both past and present.
