1 WE SERVE OCTOBER 2018 DISTRICT 201 W2 NEWS LIONS AND COMMUNITY WORKING TOGETHER My Motto for the year is Lions and Community Working Together. District Governor IMPORTANT DATES 16 October DG visit Leeming Club 17 October DG Visit Capel Club DISTRICT GOVERNOR BEVERLEY HAWKINS 20 October Dryandra AGM/Olympics 22 October DG visit Pt Kennedy Club 23 October DG visit to Mandurah Club 24 October DG visit Mt Barker Club 29 October Hearing Foundation AGM Official Publication of Lions District 201W2 District Coordinator: Bob Halford DISTRICT NEWSLETTER NEXT EDITION: 15 NOVEMBER 2018 COPY DEADLINE: 7 NOVEMBER 2018 Hello to all the Lions from our District 201W2. Another month has passed very quickly, with only 1 Club visited in September. This was due to the first Council of Governors meeting in Sydney, then onto Wellington in New Zealand for the ANZI Forum. Have you all got your Constitutions completed and sent into the Dept. concerned? Remember you only have till June 2019 to get them in. If you do not have all the information you require, please contact PDG Alan Hawkins (last years CBL chairman) or our current CBL Lawrie Carr. Details are in the diary. October is a busy month with 8 clubs to visit, our convention in Australind, the Dryandra Olympics & AGM then into Albany to open their new premises. Our District convention at Australind was a resounding success. We had a total of 260 registrations, although not everyone was there all the time. Our main guest speakers were PDG Ann Eldridge (Friday night), then PIP Barry Palmer on Saturday followed by Darren Lomman from Green Batch. All the speakers were warmly welcomed by the conventioneers. PDG Ann spoke on membership and the different types of Branch clubs or speciality clubs that can be formed in your areas. I hope you have all taken these ideas back to your Clubs. PIP Barry gave an insight into the life of a International President, the amount of travel required and how many days they had at home during the whole year. (4 days at Easter and 8 days for Xmas the only time they had to catch up with their families.) We can now all HUMANITARIAN, DISASTER RELIEF, MEDICAL RESEARCH, SIGHT and THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF YOUTH

2 appreciate the time that is put in by our International Presidents each year. Our last main speaker was Darren Lomman from Green Batch on recycling of PEP bottles and what they can be made into. This is a great project and he is well advanced in getting it up and running properly. A building has been provided by UWA, has support of the water board and another company is doing the machinery. The last amount of funding is $60,000 and I feel that the Lions of WA will be able to help. This is the feeling just from the feedback all the clubs gave us on the weekend. Will keep you informed on the subject. The Saturday night dinner and entertainment was a success. A local choir had a variety of songs, supported by a small band at times and then we had a marionette artist (only one in WA) who did a marvellous show. The only problem was the stage was not high enough for everyone to see. He had been wandering around the tables before the dinner which was interesting. The Flag Ceremony was done by the local sea scout group and well received by all. The young scouts who carried the large flags were amazing and then when the national anthems of 4 countries were sung by Lion Joanne Foster, one of the young scouts stood out the front and did the sign language (for deaf members) for the Australian Anthem. It was amazing. On Saturday morning before morning tea, we had the remembrance ceremony. During the service, there was a harpist playing which made the ceremony even more special. Please watch out for the photos of the Dolphin scene that was set for the ceremony. Well done by all concerned. IT was a great convention and those who did not attend, missed a great weekend. Keep a look out for next year s in Armadale. With the elections of next year s officers, I can advise that your DGE is Frank Camarri from Donnybrook Club, 1VDGE is Dot Jacobs from Manjimup Club and 2VDGE is Stephen Berry from Jandakot Lakes Club. IT was great to have Stephen s nomination come from the floor so that we did not have a long process once again to fill the position. 3 It is disappointing to see that 23 clubs have NOT DONE their MMR reports for SEPTEMBER. Because of this, we do not know what our correct District membership numbers are. I know there are new secretary s, so if you need help, please contact our Cabinet Secretary Margaret Amm. Just from the clubs I have visited, there are new members there who have not been put onto the MyLCI site. This problem also applies to the Club s Activity reports. There are 28 Clubs who have not completed any Activity Reports this year. Please I would like to see 100% of clubs doing this each month by the end of December this year. When I see these results, it shows that not all officers have attended the Incoming Officers Forums. Please ensure all Club officers attend the training days next May. Yes, this is a repeat from the September newsletter, but this is the only way I can really push this problem. All Clubs that I visit are reminded of this requirement. No accurate membership numbers can be given at the moment due to the above. Can Clubs please get all reports and new members put onto the MyLCI site. I have now filled the District Cake/Mint chairman position, PDG Dave Molcher from the Gosnells Club has taken on the position. Many thanks Dave and for your work at the convention with the cakes and mints. This just leaves the ZONE 3 CHAIRPERSON position to be filled. Come on Boddington, Waroona, Pinjarra, Brunswick Junction and Harvey Clubs. You are all strong Clubs with experienced members who would be capable of filling this position. Please would all the members please give this serious consideration. I await your calls. You would have all (Clubs) received the information regarding the sale of the Centennial Cake tins in your Clubs. There was a large quantity left from last year that need to be sold this year due to the Use By date of November As an incentive to sell more, all Clubs who purchase 5 cartons of the tin cakes, go in a draw to win $5000, then $3000 and lastly $2000. For every 5 cartons purchased, you get 1 ticket in the draw. I wish all clubs a successful selling period, for all the products, including the mints. I can advise that the ANZI Forum for 2020 is to be held here in Perth. It will be a joint venture by both districts. More information is to follow. Please keep in mind in March 2019, we will celebrate the National Lions Awareness Day and you will receive information in the coming months about how we can celebrate the day and help to increase the knowledge of non -members about Lions and attract new members. Our Marketing/Publicity Chairman Stephen Berry has just returned from a training session in Sydney and will no doubt have more ideas for you soon. Also, please send all your stories on the projects your Clubs are doing so that the District knows. You all have special projects and we would like to hear about them. 7 Hospitality Chairman Lion Margaret Sparkman, Cab. Sec. Lion Margaret Amm and It/Webmaster Lion Kay White PIP Barry Palmer Convention Secretary Lion Jim Foster, DG Bev and Convention Chasirman Lion John Suckling Webmaster s Tip of the Month An important tip for all clubs this month: PASSWORDS! No, not choosing strong ones that are less likely to be hacked, which everyone would be aware of by now, but making sure at least 2 club members have the password for the club s, and that there are 2 members with admin access to the club s website and Facebook page/s. Why? Too often we hear from clubs where the person responsible for one of these has left the club and taken the access with them without passing it on. This puts the club in a really awkward position, and sometimes results in a new Facebook page or address having to be created, which is time consuming and potentially stressful for the ones left to sort it out. The good news for those clubs with an Oz Clubhouse website is that the District Webmaster also has access to club sites, and can arrange for any changes in admin access if necessary. Perhaps your club President could hold a list of any passwords as a back-up as well. Don t leave it too late and learn the hard way! Let me know if you need any more information about this, and check elsewhere in this newsletter for information on the IT workshop for club website administrators (existing and brand new) coming up in Margaret River on Thursday 25 October. This workshop will be repeated in Kulin on Saturday 9 March 2019, and in Baldivis in April (date to be confirmed). Raw beginners to websites are encouraged to attend you just need to be comfortable using a computer and editing a Word document. Contact me if you would like more information. LIONS DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP 3 rd November 2018 Kardinya Community Centre Morris Buzacott Reserve Prescott Drive and Williams Road Kardinya Program 0930: Morning Tea 1000: Introductions 1030: Lions the Big Picture 1130: Club Management 1230: Lunch 1330: Communication 1500: Afternoon Tea 1530: Herding Cats!!! We are offering a second morning session on Sunday 4 th if you are interested in looking at websites and facebook. No undesignated funds received since my last report and no applications for mobility walkers have been received. What I can report, is that we collected lots of used stamps from Clubs around W2 District at the Convention in Australind, and these will be sent East for auction. After speaking with Vaal Dix in Adelaide, we are hopeful we will surpass the $25,500 received at the Townsville Multiple District Convention earlier this year. Clubs who have used stamps can contact myself or Darrel Maynard and we can arrange to collect. The best way would be to bring them along to any Cabinet Meeting and we can add them to the ones already collected. I would like to thank all those Clubs who have collected stamps for this worthy Foundation and look forward to many more in the future. Thank you too, to all the people who came to the Children s Mobility stand at the Convention. It was really great talking to those who stopped by.
