2 The food, service, venue and location were excellent. The LUSC staff was outstanding, nothing too much trouble, meals on time and the standard of the highest quality. Also the plated lunches were a big hit rather than the box lunch system of the past. The Welcome Dinner and Allstars Dinner provided first class service, quality food in a five star setting. Cameo appearances at the Allstars Dinner from Marilyn Monroe, a Shooting Star, a starlet couple and many more made the evening a glittering success. Even Superman called in for a feed. Some of the Clubs of the District were asked to present their projects, a number of District Committees also presented and we had presentations from a total of three GSE teams. Robin Norton and her team from last year, Aileen Bell and the team bound for Germany shortly and the German team from District Although I can claim the vision and the selection of speakers, the conference would not have got off the ground without a lot of help from the green shirt team. President Graham Hare and the members of the Rotary Club of Laurieton, who bravely three years ago said they would support me, stood tall and were absolutely outstanding in their support. Conference Chair Phil Hafey, who spent many many hours with me going over every detail, Phil my greatest of thanks for your great effort in helping me get it right. Phil Lacey and Nerrie, the sound and light team as I call them, thank you for your support in making the running very smooth. Our great MC, Lyn Lelean for her wonderful faultless effort as our MC. I must thank our Rotary International President s Personal Representative, PDG David Alexander and his wife Denise for their support and the very pleasant way that represented the International President John Germ and Judy. PDG David thanked us for a great conference and in his closing remarks outlined how he felt the conference content had really achieved the intended aim. Finally from Barbara and myself, thank you all from District 9650 who trusted enough to put your money in and come to the Conference. We certainly had a great time and I hope you all managed to have some fun, enjoy fellowship with old and new friends, be entertained, challenged and now have renewed energy to go forward as Rotarians Serving Humanity and to Make a Difference. Fact The amount of water on Earth is constant, and continually recycled over time: some of the water you drink will have passed through a dinosaur. E News Number 37: Page 2
3 COONABARABRAN SUPPORTS BLAZEAID coordinator of the Dunedoo BlazeAid team. If anyone would like to assist in any way, please contact the Coonabarabran Club - Coonabarabran knows what it is like to go through a fire like this so are keen to receive any help we can provide. The Rotary Club of Coonabarabran is raising funds to purchase fencing materials to be given to local farming families via BlazeAid. Member Lawrie Dawson is the SAWTELL ROTARY RAISING FUNDS FOR YOUTH ACTIVITIES BARBARA JACKSON WRITES: It was lovely to see so many of my Rotary Friends at the 2017 District Conference and by all reports you really enjoyed yourselves by the river, by the sea at Laurieton. At the All Stars Dinner the raffles were drawn and announced by two young men from our Youth Exchange Program, with a little guidance from me. The winner of the Quilt is Lucy Miller from Manila and AG John Green will deliver the Quilt on his visit to Manila RC next week. The winner of the opals was Peter McNeill from Walcha. Both were delighted with the news of their wins. Many thanks to the Quilters from Kendall Kettles and John and Neroli Bevan, from Lightning Ridge Black Opals, for their generosity providing the wonderful prizes. Over $5,000 was raised with the two raffles. This money goes to the District 9650 Partners Project, a PhD Scholarship in Cancer Research. Our Scholar, Erin Lawrence from the University of Melbourne, was selected from about 300 applicants. Thankyou Clubs and individual members, for your continuing support as we are on target to reach our goal by 1 st July You will be pleased to know that two of our inspiring speakers, Brendan Porter and Hung were able to fly home to Townsville, in time to help Mrs Porter prepare for Cyclone Debbie. They had been concerned that their flights may have been cancelled and they would not be able to return home. Many Thanks to my excellent team in the Registration Room and to all the Green Shirts who worked so enthusiastically upstairs and down in the LUSC and even up telegraph poles to attach the Banners.
