MEMBERS MEETING 3rd February 2018 Today s Guest Speaker is Jon FEARON, President of Central Coast Chapter of the Fellowship of the First Fleeters. The Fellowship is an organisation comprised of descendants of those who arrived in Sydney Cove with the First Fleet on 26 January New members are always welcome. FUTURE SPEAKERS 3rd March 2018 Michelle GOLDSMITH Reference Librarian -Tuggerah Library. Michelle will be outlining the Resources available at Tuggerah Library and courses available to enroll in this year. 7th April 2018 Tony SEITAM Tony will relate his early history during a very traumatic period in the closing stages of World War II. His family fled from the Russians and were subsequently split up in war-ravaged Germany. He will describe his early life in Estonia and his subsequent journey across Europe, culminating in a search for a new home and the family s experiences as New Australians.

UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS AT THE ART GALLERY, NSW Revered as a French national treasure and often referred to as the Mona Lisa of the Middle Ages, The lady and the unicorn tapestry series will be making its exclusive appearance in Sydney at the Art Gallery of NSW. Designed in Paris c1500, the tapestries are considered as some of the greatest surviving masterpieces of medieval European art. They depict a lady flanked by a lion and a unicorn, surrounded by an enchanting world of animals, trees and flowers. One of the most intriguing aspects of these six large-scale artworks is the mystery of their origin and meaning. For whom were these masterpieces made? What do they symbolise? What stories do they tell? This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the beauty and intricacy of some of the world s most enigmatic masterpieces in Sydney.

I have come across the story of an Australian airman in WWII who married Norma Charlton of York. He was WOII Ben Royall who was about to become engaged to be married to Norma Charlton, a WAAF Corporal attached to 35 Squadron whose parents lived in York. But Ben Royal was shot down and ended up a POW in Stalag IVB. He survived and on 23 April 1945 the POW camp became under the control of the Russian Army and Ben was marched to Riesa and was there handed over to the Americans. He arrived back in England in late May 1945 and two weeks later married Norma. He was then repatriated to Australia and Norma followed a few months later. They had at least one child, a son Peter. Norma died in 1983 and Ben died in 2004 aged 85. Convict Women an exhibition with a focus on food and food preparation at Chifley Home a smaller space, but with the attraction of the house museum of our famous Prime Minister. Soft trades in the 1837 Uniting Church Hall in William Street a great heritage venue with excellent large space and a full commercial kitchen. Spinning and weaving, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, lacemaking, felting, quilting and other soft trades, including workshops - living heritage. Restoration trades such as pole wood lathe, adze wood shaping, found bush timber furniture, cedar furniture restoration, violin making, decorative joiner, cane furniture restorer, live traditional music and food, At the 1856 Tremains Mill - Tremains is a proven event drawcard space in a heritage precinct. Farm trades such as blacksmithing, farrier, wheelwright, winemaking, beekeeping, whips, steam engines, sadlier, with a bush BBQ and corn on the cob. At the Agricultural Research Farm Square - the Ag Station is heritage listed by Bathurst Council and has numerous heritage buildings to showcase, including a blacksmiths shop, stables, and (blade) shearing shed.
