2 Pigeon Mail Herm Island first had a sub post office set up by the GPO in 1925 however it was closed due to costs in After the end of WWII Mr A G Jefferies, a resident of Herm, tried to capitalise on Herm's prospective tourism. He unsuccessfully tried to convince the GPO to re-open the sub post office so instead started his own pigeon post using local Herm stamps to transfer mail to St Peter Port in Guernsey.
