ARA for 7 months 1931 USA - France, first commercial trans-atlantic flight, flown on the first leg from New York to Bermuda where it was unloaded, the flight was lost at sea on the next leg to Azores and pilots never found. ARE for 3 months 1927 Konigsberg (now Kaliningrad) - Moscow first flight via Riga flown by Deruluft, postal stationary illustration of 3 cities crest & German Exhibition in Konigsberg advert on the reverse, scarce example of the advert in Russian rather than the more common German version. ARJ for 5 months 1938 Elkhorn, Wisconsin, USA - Lundy Island, UK. Originally travelled first by rail to New York then via ship to Plymouth (5 cent US stamp rate to UK), then flown by Atlantic Coast Air Service to Lundy arrived where it arrived on 7th November (as per the two ½d Lundy stamps) betty@buckinghamcovers.com ARO for 5 months 1937 Brisbane - Cape Town cover signed by H B Bonney with purple rectangular My Little Ship II flown cachet. Lorres Bonney a.k.a. Mrs. H.B. Bonney was the first Australian woman to earn a pilot s licence. In 1932 she was awarded the Qantas Trophy for the most meritorious performance by a Queensland pilot and she began planning a solo crossing from Australia to England. The flight to England begun on April 12th 1933 and she arrived at Croydon Aerodrome on June 21st. In recognition of her feat in becoming the first woman to fly from Australia to England she was awarded an MBE.

ZEPPELINS RU for 7 months 1935 LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin Uruguay - Germany flight with a superb purple bird via Condor Zeppelin cachet and receiving backstamps on the reverse, scarce cover. RU for 3 months 1934 LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin Christmas Flight (also the 12th South America Flight) with a terrific green Christmas cachet plus a receiving backstamp on the reverse. This special cover which features an illustration of the route was produced for the mail that was to be flown by catapult via SS Wesfalen. RU for 5 months 1932 LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin flown Germany - Brazil with a purple Graf Zeppelin 5. Sudamerikafahrt cachet. Originally sent from England to Berlin as per George V 10d value and Berlin backstamp on reverse, then flown by Zeppelin rest of route. The reverse also features a Servico Aereo Transatlantico via Condor Zeppelin cachet, lovely cover. RU for 5 months 1936 LZ 129 Hindenburg illustrated card flown Lichtenstein - New York with red Deutsche Luftpost Europa- Nordamerika cachet. RU for 5 months 1936 LZ 129 Hindenburg mail originating in Austria and forwarded to Friedrichshafen, Germany where it was flown on the 6th Hindenburg Test Flight. This was the first Hindenburg flight to officially carry mail, with red LZ 129 cachet. RU for 10 months 1931 LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin card flown on Magdeburg - Austria flight with a very clear red Graf Zeppelin fahrt nach Magdeburg cachet, 160 flown. 3

RU Berlin - Riga airmail with a strip of six 100m German airmail stamps plus three other values and a Berlin registered label, the stamps catalogue at over 100 alone. RU for 2 months 1926 DLV (German Flying Formation) official card with two special postmarks for the Bad-Wurtt Glider Flight Competition at Muhlhausen, scarce. RU for 3 months 1922 Berlin airmail with nine German airmail stamps and Berlin registered label, the stamps catalogue at over 165 alone. ARG Berlin International Aeronautical Exhibition label illustration with Berlin Exhibition postmark, flown to the Leipzig/Halle Airport. 5 EXTERNAL UK AIRMAIL ARW01S Western Air Express Route, first flight London - Plymouth, signed by pilot Charles William Anderson Scott, best known for winning the MacRobertson Air Race in RU for 4 months 1933 Great Western Railway Airmail Birmingham - Plymouth first flight, signed by the pilot. RU for 5 months 1934 Railway Air Services Plymouth - Cardiff first flight with rare pink first air mail label and an L.Pitman cachet on reverse. RU for 3 months 1937 Imperial Airways Alexandria - London first all air flight, carried on the flying boat RMA Castor. RU for 5 months 1928 First official acceptance of British mail via the Ile De France catapult service to Boston, USA. The cover has three George V stamps including the stunning 2/6 Seahorse which are each cancelled by a registered Liverpool postmark. On the reverse there is a purple Boston receiving backstamp; cover neatly opened along the top. RU for 5 months 1928 Crash Mail from F-AIUU of Cie. Gle. Aeropostale which crashed near Barcelona on the France - South America service, and of the 130kgs of mail about 30kgs was destroyed. This example includes the original airmail with scorch marks as well as the official covering envelope used to continue its journey. RU for 3 months 1939 Imperial Airways Challenger England - South Africa crash mail piloted by Captain F. Smith. The flight crashed whilst alighting at Mozambique when it struck a small boat; the mail was then forwarded by the Canopus. A variety of cachets were used on the recovered mail with this mail having a bilingual purple rectangular example. 5
