DK per month over 4 months DK per month over 9 months Embossed James Valentine envelope franked with two 1d redbrowns and 791 Harling Numeral cancel, sent February 1856 from Roydon in Norfolk to Diss, a beautiful and scarce envelope. James Valentine ( ) was a Scottish photographer who produced envelopes for many campaigns most famously his Five Moral Reform Causes - Ocean Penny Postage, Peace, Universal Brotherhood, Anti-Slavery, and Temperance. DK per month over 10 months Fantastic 1854 envelope franked with a 1/ green embossed, d blue (plate 4 & initials NJ), and a 1d red-brown (plate 197 and initials QE), all tied by a London Inland 17 and French double circle cancels, sent 16th December to Paris with arrival mark on the 7th January. This is a very scarce combination of stamps and frankings. DK per month over 5 months 1911 First UK Aerial Post red-brown illustrated die 4 postcard and sent on the first day of flights on September 9th. The postcard has been signed by Thomas Wareham Smith ( ) who was a newspaper publicity director and founded the famous Ideal Home Exhibition. 2 DK per month over 4 months 1911 First UK Aerial Post with scarce Zog Cleaning Paint logo, several companies paid for adverts on the postal stationary flown with this Zog example being one of the rarest to find, in good condition for its age. 50 per month over 3 months DK illustrated card flown on the Dutch Air Ballon Henri Dunant with an attractive flown cachet. This was the first air ballon to start its flight from Great Britain when it took off on September 24th from Ulster in Northern Ireland, a scarce item. DK per month over 5 months 1912 Waterplane Daily Mail UK Tour Aerial postcard, with illustrated Promoted by the Grahame White Aviation Co cachet. It was sent from Portsmouth to London with a 6th August postmark. DK per month over 2 months 1930 Postcard with an illustration of R-100 Zeppelin, it features a Canadian 5c and Aerodrome St Hubert Airport cachet dated 1st August which is also signed by Geo Faille the postmaster, plus a Montreal, Canada 13th August CDS, scarce aviation cover and amazing condition for its age. Flight 65 per month over 5 months DK King George V High Value 2/6 Seahorse on attractive envelope from London to Melbourne Australia, and an illustrated Abel Tasman first flight cachet, the plane was named after famous Dutch explorer Abel Tasman who discovered Tasmania, New Zealand, and Fiji. DK per month over 2 months 1897 Strip of five ½d Vermilion Jubilee stamps tied by a Paddington P13 Duplex dated 21st May 1897, sent to Leipzig in Germany. This is an unusual usage of five half pennies as larger values were available and would normally have been used instead. 50 per month over 3 months DK Pre-stamp wrapper sent from London to Quebec dated 22nd February 1835, fantastic three page letter which amongst other references mentions travelling to the Land of Frogs and learning French! In 1835 the cost of postage would still have been per page so to have a three page letter sent aboard is scarce. DK per month over 5 months Pre-stamp wrapper addressed to Perkins Bacon & Petch with letter written from Belfast on 31st July and an arrival mark of 8th August 1839 on the reverse. The letter is written by a Belfast Bank regarding the next payment sending. Perkins and Bacon were a printer most famous amongst us philatelists for printing the Penny Black. Thompson & Co, Solicitors of British & Foreign Patents envelope franked with a ½d vermillion and double ring Liverpool cancel dated January 8th, sent to New York, lovely example of a transatlantic rate. DK25 75 buckinghamcovers.com 25 per month over 3 months Pre-stamp wrapper dated 17th January 1823 with a very fine Newport Isle of White/105 Mileage cancel, sent to Buckingham and with the original letter inside plus a nice wax seal. 4 DK per month over 3 months 1937 King Edward VIII block of four ½d Greens and King George VI Coronation 1½d, tied by a 1937 Cherbourg/Maritime Manche cancel and a lovely RMS Asturia Posted on High Seas cachet, sent to Paris with an attractive emblem on the envelope flap. DK per month over 10 months 1852 Transatlantic mail sent from Devon to New York via London and Liverpool. 1/ Packet Postage rate paid plus a 1d late fee. It has per Atlantic from Liverpool written which is referring to the Collins Steamship Atlantic however it missed this steamship which sailed on 11th February so in spite of paying the late fee it would have been carried by the Cunard ship Africa, which sailed on the 14th and arrived on the 28th. 6 BP per month over 11 months Stunning Ocean Penny Post cover with a beautiful illustration of a mail boat on the high seas. The cover features an 1841 Penny Red with initials DL and a blue Luton postmark dated December 16th Due to the high costs of sending mail across the Atlantic from Britain to America, a campaign for the Ocean Penny Post was established. Their main method to spread their message was to use beautifully illustrated envelopes as a delivery system and several designs were printed for use, which are now highly collectible. The campaigns main objective was to reduce the cost of such mail from its rate of 1/- down to just 3d. This 3d was broken down so that it would effectively be 1d for the sending of mail from its original positon to the ships port of departure, 1d for the passage across the Atlantic, and a further 1d from its port disembarkation to the final destination. 180 per month over 5 months BP This is a fine example of one of the scarce Henry Archer Penny Reds. Henry Archer is remembered in the philatelic world for inventing the first perforating machine which allowed the easier separation of stamps from their sheets. Archer experimented with several stamp variations and this cover has his Red-Brown shade of Penny Red with plate number 99 and initials JE. It is addressed to Liverpool and features a blue Liverpool postmark and an excellent wax seal on the reverse.
