2 Units are to bring their own food and camping equipment. Packs may prepare their own food, but it is strongly encouraged for Packs and Troops to partner for this event. Activities in which Cub Scout youth may participate: Midway booth activities Mindtrekkers BB Gun range Giant Sling Shot Bike Loop Disk Golf Capture the Flag Ecology Scavenger Hunt Saturday Night Campfire S mores record BLC Scout Museum Puzzle Hunt A Gift for Camp Hiawatha The Camp Committee of Camp Hiawatha has requested that each unit attending the camporee bring one or more Aldo Leopold benches that you have built at home. The plans will be provided, and these are not a major construction project. They will, however, enhance the Camp greatly. Units are strongly encouraged to make this gift to Camp. Arrival instructions It is highly recommended that Troops and Crews arrive not later than 7:00 PM Eastern, but the gate will be manned all night. Recall that sunset is expected at 9:00 PM Eastern. It is difficult to set up in the dark. The front gate opens at 4:00 PM Eastern. Units will be required to give a hard copy by name roster of their participants at the gate, adults and youth identified on the roster. A staff guide will lead the unit vehicles into their assigned campsite; campsites are determined by time through the gate, not by unit preference. Vehicles stay in campsites until departure on Sunday, and will not be used to travel around camp. Those with mobility issues please note such on your pre-registration on the Bay-Lakes Council website. Most Packs are expected to arrive Saturday morning. Any Packs wishing to come in on Friday night or stay for the whole camporee must contact Bob Claycomb beforehand. Packs wishing to attend overnight, or attend the whole Camporee, must comply with the Guide to Safe Scouting. This will include providing a roster of youth and adults showing that each Cub Scout is partnered with a specific parent/guardian or designated Leader, and that the Pack has a Baloo Trained leader in attendance. These must be provided before you are permitted through the front gate. Saturday morning for packs: Packs are encouraged to partner with an attending troop for meals, and a troop member should meet you at the gate. As most packs will be here for the day, cars will be parked in the parking lot, and vehicles with gear will be guided into the assigned campsite. Have a by name roster of your participants ready for hand in at the gate. You will be asked if you are eating with a troop or on your own. Sign-up for events Units will be able to sign up for certain activities when they register on the Bay-Lakes Council website, and also may do so at the Doc Jewell Pavilion on Friday night. Everyone must come to the Pavilion on Friday night to at least confirm their pre-registration for activities. Sign-up is for the following activities: You will be asked for at least the anticipated number of interested participants when registering on the Bay- Lakes Council website. Participation in the Iron Scout is open for any Boy Scout or Venturer. Adults may inquire, and may participate if there is room after youth complete their sign up for the Iron Scout.
3 Dutch oven competition You are encouraged to register for this at the Bay-Lakes Council website. Midway booth or display You will be asked to register and give details at the Bay-Lakes Council website Departure procedure Units don t leave until released by security people, who check to ensure their camping area is clean and all Unit personnel are accounted for. Event patches are given after unit is released by security. Program details Participants will bring their own bike, and a bike safety check will be done at the health lodge. Bikes will then be secured at the health lodge until they are picked up for use in on the course. Once the course is completed, bikes will be stored back in troop or crew vehicles. No riding of bikes off of established courses for the Iron Scout is permitted. The consists of three parts: a 2-mile canoe course around Bunting Lake, a 5-mile hike around Bunting Lake, and a 12-mile bike hike to the Au Train Basin and back. Participants must bring their own bike, and helmets are required. Dutch Oven Cooking There are a total of eight (8) divisions (1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place in each). Each bracket may choose either a main dish or dessert. These brackets are: Younger Boy Scouts (up to First Class) Venturers Older Boy Scouts (Star and above) Adults Participants will bring own food, materials, and equipment, and will set up their kitchens in the competition area. The recipe to be cooked will be displayed on a card, and at least an amount of 4-6 servings are to be prepared. Participants will prepare a plate for the judges when ready to be evaluated, with the remaining food served to spectators. Participants will then clean up their area. Participants will be scored on display (presentation of dish), food handling, taste, appearance, and clean up. Midway Units are encouraged to put on Show and Do, or action based, booth. It may also be a Scouting Display if you choose, and this is open to individuals, too. Basically, it is for people to put on their own Scouting specialty. A booth must be manned continuously. Cub Scout bike loop will run from the pre-ordeal Ring to shower house. 20 bikes are provided. Disc golf course is by the Chapel area (9 holes). Capture the flag is for Cub Scouts. A new set of players will be set up every 20 minutes. Whatever number there is divided into two teams. It will be off the old ecology trail that comes out by the parking lot.
4 Giant Sling Shot will be in the Ranger house field. Tomahawk Throw will be at the Archery Range. BB guns / 22 rifle will be at the Rifle Range. Ecology scavenger hunt or what not boxes will be based out of the Nature area. World Record S mores. Everyone goes to a designated area to make s mores after the campfire to set a record for the most s mores made. Units bring equipment and ingredients to make s mores. A 100-piece puzzle will be made of a photo of all 50 summer camp patches. There will be an ongoing scavenger hunt during the day for these 100 pieces. Each person (youth only) who finds a piece will have their name placed in a drawing for a prize. There also will be a small prize for finding a puzzle piece.
