2 Grizzly Halloween Fall Adventure Dear Scouts and Scouters: Are you ready to take advantage of a great camping experience? It s happening again this fall at Camp Brown on October 17 18, This year, Coronado Area Council, BSA will again get together to put on a fall weekend program. All districts are invited. Activities will be den/patrol oriented to help reinforce team building skills and to have fun. Most activities are divided between Cub Scout age skills. Again this year, Costume Contests (Tiger Cub, Bear, Wolf, Webelos, & Sibling divisions), a Haunted Hiking Trail, and Spook House. A list of activities is enclosed. Our goal is for you to have fun and friendship with Scouts and Scouters from around the Council. If you have questions contact your District Camping Chair/representative. 3 Grizzly Halloween Fall Adventure Important Dates: October 2 nd October 9 th Pre- Registration and deposits due. Final day to register. Dates/Check-in: October 17-18, Units may check-in on Saturday from 8:30 am 9:45 am. Sunday s only scheduled activity is a religious service. Participation:This event is open to Webelos Scouts, Cub Scouts, Tiger Cubs, and Siblings Adult Leadership: Cub Scout Packs ratio of one leader to five youth. Tiger Cubs are invited. This is a Council event so Packs do not need their own Baloo trained leaders. Scout Uniform: The Scout Class B uniform or Pack t-shirt, is encouraged for the Saturday day activities. Flag ceremony is a Class A event. Saturday Night we suggest the Scouts wear their Halloween Costumes (Pre Screened by their Leaders) for the contests at the Campfire program. Registration: Each Pack should register their attendance by going to by October 2 nd for the early bird fee. Regular registration is available until October 9 th. Event Fees: The event fee goes to defray the cost of patches, awards, liability insurance, meals, camp maintenance and program support materials. The early bird registration fee is $20 per person and is available until October 5th. After that date, the regular registration fee is $25. Registration will close on October 9 th. An Event Patch will be presented to each registered participant. Meals: Saturday lunch is on your own. Bring a sack lunch or cook in your campsite. Dinner will be held Saturday evening in the dining hall for all Scouts and leaders. Sunday Breakfast is also included in the event fee. Guest meals can be purchased at the Camp Trading Post if needed.

4 Grizzly Halloween Activities Cub Scout (activities such as) Games BB-gun range Archery range Pumpkin carving contest Craft Area Webelos Events This program has been offered by the council for several years. Open to Webelos to introduce them to basic Boy Scout skills they will use in a few months. The purpose is to get these Scouts excited about continuing in a Boy Scout troop. Activities are from 10am 6pm and will include items such as: Pocket knife instruction (bring one if have, otherwise pocket knives are provided) Tool Safety bow saws (cut a small branch) and ax (how to carry will not use) Fire starting with matches and fire by friction Knots/lashings and using them to build a tripod and flag pole Picking a campsite water drainage, trees, shade, etc. Cooking easy cooking for a snack and try your hand at cooking a pancake Backpacking what to take on an overnight trip and how to pack Climbing Tower Must have the release signed by a PARENT/GUARDIAN

5 Grizzly Halloween Fall Adventure Vehicle Information: Parking in designated areas. All vehicles must be removed from the camping area. Only Camp Truck and trailer may be in the campsite for the purpose of unloading or loading. Camp Truck will be running from 8:30 am to 10 am. Parking attendants will be available on Saturday morning to direct movement and parking of vehicles. Visitors: Visitors and parents are welcome to visit the camp throughout the weekend. However, they are not allowed to participate in any events. Flags: Packs are encouraged to fly their unit flag at each campsite. Event Rules: The event rules are for every one. The Scout Code of Conduct is found in the Scout Oath, Scout Law, and Outdoor Code. Any questions inquire with the Event Staff. Leaving the Event: Unit leaders are responsible for Scouts leaving early and knowing if the parent has given permission for their son to leave camp. Anyone leaving early must sign out with camp headquarters before leaving camp. Trading Post: The trading post will be open for Scouts and Scouters to purchase camp items, pop and snacks. Hours of operation will be posted upon check-in. Religious Services: A Scout is Reverent. All Scouts and Leaders are asked to participate in the 9:00 am Sunday morning Religious service. Catholic Services are available at St. Andrew s in Abilene. No Ground Fires are allowed. Bring gas cook stoves or use the fire pits in the campsite (unless burn ban is in effect). First Aid: Health Officer will be around camp. See a Staff member for assistance. Climbing/Rappelling Tower: Only for Webelos Scouts. Scouts must bring current camp Climbing Tower Release form signed by parent/guardian. It is required to climb. This is a BSA Climbing/Rappelling standard.

6 General Regulations: Grizzly Halloween Fall Adventure Rules No open flames in tents Liquid fuels and propane stored in controlled areas by leaders Propane or liquid fuel stoves are recommended. Above ground fire barrels can be used. No digging, trenching or cutting of trees or brush Garbage is to be taken to the dumpster by Dining Hall No pets, not even with visitors Foot travel only, no ATVs or golf carts Campsites Units will choose their own campsite in the upper meadow camping area. Food & Equipment Each unit is responsible to provide their own food for Saturday s Lunch and camping equipment. Dress Code Scouts are asked to wear Class B (scout/ camp tee shirt) for Saturday activities and Class A for Saturday evening Ceremony, unless participating in costume contest. Visitors are welcome but must check-in at Dinning Hall. OPEN FIRES Fires are allowed only in above ground fire barrels. If a burning ban exists at the time, fires will not be allowed. Units must supply their own fire wood as limited wood is available on site. Fire Guard Each unit is to use a Fire Guard Plan supplied at check-in. Cub Scout leaders/parents need to stay with their youth. Buddy System is always used. The river/creek is off limits.
