2 TROOP 108 NEWS New Scouts Troop 108 extends a warm welcomee to all the new Scouts and Scouting Families who joined the troop this Spring. Apache Patrol: Jonathan Felgenhauer and Dalton Butz. Cobra Patrol: Eric Boyd, Blaze Lynch, Chase Skavinsky and Ben Kaminsky. Flying Eagle Patrol: Landon Detweiler, Joshua Landis, Conor Raftery and Doug McGrath. Order of the Arrow Troop 108 OA candidates Tyler Scardecchio, Trevor Schaeffer and Lucas Snyder weree tapped out at the PreCamporee Campfire on April 17 th. The new candidates have one year to complete their ordeal and confirm their membership. June Scout Meetings - In June we will begin meeting at the New Goshenhoppen Church Park. Softball and other outdoor sports will be our activities. The Park is located at the bottom of 3 rd Street in East Greenville. Trexler Game Preserve For the June campout we will be camping at the Trexler Game Preserve. Saturday we will be visiting the Trexler Zoo. Summer Camp Payment in full was due April 15 th. Medical and Medication Forms are due to Mr. Tomlin on June 14 th. First-year campers will be enrolled in the Trailblazers program. Scouts not enrolled in Trailblazers should review the merit badge schedulee and prerequisites prior to coming to camp. If you are considering not sending your son to camp due to financial issues, please contact Mr. Tomlin as soon as possible. Troop 108 is very proud of our traditions and we believe that summer camp is an essential experiencee that should not be missed.

3 HORSESHOE Father & Son Camping Trip We have reserved Camp Turrell August 27 th -29 th for Troop 108 s Annual Father & Son Camping Trip. year for the trip. This will be the 52 nd We look forward to renewing old friendships and strengthening new ones for a great fun- filled weekend. Camp Turrell, is located in Cuddebackville, NY, just offf of Rt. 209, north of Port Jervis. Camp Turrelll features the 90-acre Beaver Dam Pond completee with swimming! Fundraisers Hoagie Sale, orders due on May 3 rd, pickup hoagies Saturday May 8 th, 10:00 am at the EG firehouse parking lot. Please help Troop 108 keep our program affordable to everyonee by actively participating in all our fundraisers.

4 Troop 108 Holds March Campout Lucas Snyder, Troop 108 Scribe From March 19-21, 2010 the Boy Scouts of Troop 108 camped at the East Greenville Scout Cabin. The theme of the campout was wilderness survival. This was the first camping trip for nine scouts who joined the troop from Cub Scout Packs 244 and 170. Friday night everyone came to camp ready to have fun. First, each patrol had to build a shelter to go along with the theme of wilderness survival. Saturday morning everyone woke up and started breakfast. Starting breakfast wasn t easy though, all of the patrols had to use flint and steel to start their fires. After breakfast the patrols had a little competition. The competition involved visiting different stations each with a different challenge that was timed. The stations included fire building, first aid, and lashing. Next was a nice long lunch to give the patrols some rest. Then there was a relay race around the cabin. The rest of the day was free to do what you wanted until after dinner. There was a campfire at the end of the day where everyonee sung songs and did skits. Sunday morning the troop woke up and attended a church service by Jason Ritter. After church, everyone cleaned up and went home. 5 Troop 108 holds Annual PreCamporee Lucas Snyder, Troop 108 Scribe The April campout for the Boy Scouts of Troop 108 is called the PreCamporee. The scouts camped in tents at the Scout Cabin from April 16 th -18 th. Each Patrol was required to choose a campsite and build camp items such as tables and chairs using rope and wood. Friday evening the scouts met at the East Greenville Firehouse parking lot and hiked to the cabin with their patrols. Once the scouts got to the cabin they set up tents and immediately started lashing until it was time to go to bed. Saturday they made breakfast and got back to lashing. All of the patrols lashed at their sites until after lunch when everyone took part in a small competition consisting of first aid skills, pioneering skills and a maze inside the scout cabin that you had to do blindfolded. Afterwards, the patrols went back to their camp sites to work until dinner. When all of the patrols were done lashing the senior patrol came and graded each campsite. Some of the items made were bunk beds made by the Apache patrol, a catapult by Cobra Patrol, and a tree fort by the Flying Eagle Patrol. Saturday evening the troop held a campfire with the company of any parents and families who wanted to come. Cub Scouts and parents from Pack 244 also came to the camp fire and spent the night camping. At the end of the campfire the winner of the 2010 PreCamporee was announced. The Flying Eagle Patrol won the competition and was awarded a plaque. Sunday morning the troop held a church service with a special guest, Vicar Jack Ambukat, pastoral intern for St. Paul s Church, Red Hill. After church the patrols cleaned their campsites, packed up and hiked back to the firehouse. From there, the scouts were able to go home. 6 TRAIL THE EAGLE Troop 108 Courts of Honor were held for the following individuals. TENDERFOOT: SECOND CLASS: FIRST CLASS: STAR LIFE: EAGLE: PRESIDENTIAL QUOTES President George H. Bush voiced strong support for Scouting and lauded the BSA for its fight against drug abuse. He appeared at the 12th National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Va., August "The Boy Scouts of America has assumed a leadership role in confronting this problem [drug abuse]. You are teaching self-protection strategiess against drugs and other dangers. You have circulated these strategies in direct language in a very successful pamphlet called Drugs: A Deadly Game. And you have done something else you are leading the youth of America by example."

7 Parents & Scouts Information Center Please be aware that scouts are not permitted to bring cell phones, electronic games, or any other electronic equipment to scout functions. Parents, even if you allow your son to have a cell phone, they ARE NOT to be brought to a scout function. There is always an ample amount of leaders with phones in case of emergencies. If you have an address and have not provided it to the Troop please do as soon as possible. There are quite a few scouts that we do not have record of address. To save money on postage please send your address to (troop108news@gmail.com). Your address is is used strictly for scouting updates and information. Scouts are NOT to leave campouts before the patrol is checked out of their camp site. If a scout needs to leave early, then the whole patrol should make sure they are checked out. Parents, please do not come and expect to take your scout home before the patrol is checked out just because you are there early. IMPORTANT NOTES: Reminder! Class A uniforms are required for meetings at Scout Hall. Only trained patrol members can light stoves. Should no patrol members be qualified, please see a senior or leader for assistance. Parents Please be certain that there is always two deep Scout Leadership on-site before dropping off your son. Safety is our primary concern!! Permission slips are always required when individual Scouts have alternative activities or transportation needs. Slips must be presented to the Camping Leader upon arrival Friday night!
