1 2017 Sussex District Fall Camporee Knights who Say Ni CAMP WHEELER, MASR, STANHOPE NJ Friday, October 6th to Sunday October 8 th Hear ye, Hear Ye The King seeks your presence to partake in the games of the Holy Grail. In the land of Wheeler great challenges exist that only brave knights can conquer. It will take those of great purpose and great bravery to take on the tasks that will preserve your own kingdom. Are you and your kingdom willing to take this challenge? Take on the tasks of building a catapult, set up a castle, or play in the games of brave knights? Each Troop will create their own Kingdom and will compete against other. The Troop s SPL will be it s King and will be responsible for running one of the activities. We will end the day with a Feast, a Campfire, and a movie. Cost will be $ per person! Registration is online only. The DEADLINE for registration will be September 27th. 2 Manning of stations: Unit leadership will be asked to man each activity and will be given the activity requirements ahead of time with their location. Please note: Be sure to remove any trash, etc. from your area before departing. Camping: Camp Site assigned at check-in. Your unit MUST check in at the Camporee HQ - before setting up camp. Each camping area will be managed by the Camporee staff. The unit should properly mark their site with their unit s flag. Be sure to follow the rules in The Guide to Safe Scouting. Follow the Leave No Trace Philosophy while camping. Respect other units around you. We will be camping in a field. It is suggested that each unit provide their own water to start off. Cooking by propane stove and campfires are allowed. Be sure to have in public view a first aid kit and fire extinguisher in your site. Scouts and Scouters should show respect in using the bathrooms. NO trailers or vehicles will be allowed to park at the camp site unless noted. See following parking rules. Grey Water and Trash Garbage follow the bring in take out philosophy and not left in your camping area. Be sure to LEAVE NO TRACE. All grey water should be disposed of properly. Meals All Units will be responsible for their own meals for this event. Religious Service We will be conducting a Scouts Own Service before the Campfire. Health, Safety, and Identification: Follow the buddy system! Make sure all health regulations are followed. Camp sites will be inspected. All injuries should be reported to staff. Scoutmasters are to fill out incident reports and submit them to Council. The closest hospital to Camp Wheeler is Hackettstown Medical Center, 651 Willow Grove Street, Hackettstown, NJ phone When calling 911, be sure to alert Karl Grogaard at so that we can make sure the 1 st responders know where to go. In case of inclement weather, please follow the direction of the staff. Lighting storms units should seek protection in buildings or under pavilions. Lost Scouts! Upon notification of a lost Scout, an alert will be sent to all staff members. Lost and found will be at the Camporee Headquarters. We will follow the Guide to Safe Scouting: Page 2of 6

3 Awards: All units will receive a Camporee participation ribbon and each Scout will receive a patch. Marking and stations: The camporee locations will be well marked with signage to ensure that our Scouts can find the different events. Parking & Traffic: 1 All vehicles will park in the designated parking area. (Wheeler parking area) 2 Each vehicle will post the owners contact information on the dash. Please follow all parking rules. 3 Carpooling is imperative. Please limit the number of vehicles parking at the event as much as possible. Unit permission slips: To attend this event, be sure you have the Scout s parent(s) or guardian s permission. For us to properly advertise this camporee and all future events, we are asking that each unit provide the photo release indicated on the last page on your unit s permission slips. Rosters: To check in, each unit is required to submit 2 copies of their roster. No exceptions. Troop equipment list: TRAILERS will be allowed to the site if there is room. Please remember that this is only a weekend event. What you bring is what you will have to carry in to your site. Uniforms Class B uniforms can be worn throughout program time and for both the Campfire and Scouts Own Service. We are asking Scouts and Leaders to wear costumes for the event. Campfire: We will be showing a movie with popcorn. Rules: The Scout Law, Promise, and Oath are the rules that we follow. Leader Notes Be sure to follow the Guide to Safe Scouting. Planned Weekend Program Troop requirements: The Scouts in your Troop should fill the following positions and should wear appropriate costume: o King should be the SPL or highest ranking Scout o A Jester to bring merriment to the kingdom o A Wizard to cast the necessary spells o A Prince o Dukes o Knights o A Religious Cleric A 2 foot by 2-foot size Family Crest that matches your Troop s theme A Catapult for The throwing of the pancakes. Colored Pennants to decorate your kingdom A premade gateway with signage of the name of your Kingdom Page 3of 6

4 Costumes: Dressing in accordance with the theme is not only encouraged, it is recommended as there will be a competition for the best individual scout costume and the best overall patrol costumes. The costumes must be made, not rented or store bought, so no cheating now!! We recommend a tunic, maybe with your patrol s Coat of Arms. Real weapons ARE NOT permitted. Prop weaponry such as Nerf, foam, cardboard is allowed, no wood or metal. Below are some resources for making simple attire, but you can be as creative as you like. Resources: These are just a few sample sites for costume patterns, or feel free to come up with your own pattern/design: Coat of Arms ideas: Tunic and chain mail: Simple medieval tunic: No-Sew Knight s Tunic: LARP Sword: The Feast: We would like to have a Feast in the Kent Center before our movie. We ask that: Each unit bring a meal that your leaders and Scouts can eat without utensils. We will provide bug juice and coffee. The events: Jousting Can you knock the bottles off the rail while moving? Sling Using the sling shots, can you hit the target? Jester Game Your court jester lines everyone up and he commences to perform. He is to get the other Scouts to laugh. If your jester succeeds in so doing, that person or persons are out of the game. At the end of the allotted time, if you have guests who did not laugh, crack a smile, snicker, or the like, they are the winners. If your jester was able to take everyone out, your jester is the winner. Sherwood Forest: Bring your compass and your navigational skills; you will have the to find to get your Patrol out of Sherwood Forest. Storm the Castle Wall and raise the flag (lashing): The castle walls are within reach! Lash your siege ladder together while the other members lash a flag pole and raise your crest flag. Tar Boiling (fire making): Boil, Boil, Toil and Trouble, Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble! Build up your fire and be the first team to bring your cauldron of oil to boil. Battle Axe Toss: Through the course of human history, commonplace objects have been pressed into service as weapons. Axes, by virtue of their ubiquity, are no exception. Besides axes designed for combat, there were many axes that were both tools and weapons. Merlin s Table Event Equipment: 2 flat tables with handles on two sides and a large ball. The Scouts place a ball on a tray (one on each handle) transport the ball along the course to the line and transfer the ball to the other table so the other Scouts can bring the ball back to the start line.. The Scouts must go over the rough roads and under the fall entree. This must be done without dropping the ball from the table, and if the ball is dropped, the participants must start all over from the beginning. Quarter Staff Equipment: One Scout Stave Method: Players face one another, with feet placed in a wide, firm stance. RULES FOR ACCEPTANCE AND PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAMS Rules for acceptance and participation in the programs are the same for everyone without regard to race, color, national origin, or handicap. TAX DEDUCTIBLE PORTION All amounts in excess of $.0.00 per ticket may be claimed as tax deductible. CANCELLATION POLICY In all programs offered by the Patriots Path Council, BSA, a great deal of planning and purchasing takes place well in advance. These plans include, but are not limited to, staff, food, program materials, patches and awards, rental and purchase of equipment, and in some cases, items of clothing such as T-shirts that are given as part of a program fee. When an individual or group makes a reservation for an activity or program, these items are included in ordering of materials and staffing for that event. Page 5of 6

6 Refunds: Individuals or groups that cancel a program reservation 30 days prior to the date of the event will receive a refund of fees paid, less a 15% administrative charge. No refunds will be made after the 30 day cancellation deadline, unless there is a medical or other emergency.
