2 This year the Klondike Derby will be held at Hidden Valley Scout Reservation. Arrival and check-in units camping Friday evening: Arrival Friday 5:00-8:00, check in at Dining Hall, Crew Final fees due at check-in for all Scouts and Scouters attending. Saturday s final schedule and rotation assignment will be given out Friday evening after all Troops have arrived (8:30 SPL meeting Dining Hall). Arrival and check-in Units arriving Saturday MORNING: Check in at Dining Hall 7:30-8:30. Final fees due at check-in for all Scouts and Scouters attending. Flag raising promptly at 8:30 on main parade field, Sled Check-in Point Evaluation (with all required equipment and supplies onboard) following raising. Events start at 9 am. Saturday s final schedule and rotation assignment will be given out at check-in. HQ & First Aid: All activities will be coordinated at the Dining Hall and will be the location of First Aid during event. Dining Hall will be available for Campers that are camping outdoors and need to move to a warm and safe location if cold weather requires. Each Unit should have their own First Aid Kit at their campsite/cabin. On-site contact phone numbers will be provided at check-in for First Aid Emergencies at camp. Registration (below): Registration fee of $7 includes Event Patch for each Scout & Leader, a HOT lunch served in the WARM Dining Hall and snacks at movie times. Patrol Equipment Required & Sled Check-in Point Evaluation: Troops should have the equipment listed below on their sled at Sled Check-in before and after Flag Raising in the Parade Field and prior to 9 am Station time. Bathrooms: Shower facilities down and across from Trading Post will be open for use. Dining Hall has toilet/sink only facilities.

3 Water: Available at loading dock area of Dining Hall. event staff on other sources. Check with Garbage: Haul out or utilize dumpsters near D.H. (back behind / around loading dock side of building). Buddy System: Please remind all Scouts that the Buddy System should be used at all times. Scouts should never travel alone. This is important during cold weather winter activities. Parking: Please limit vehicle traffic in camp throughout the weekend. Please park non-essential vehicles in parking lot near main gate. Not all roads near cabins will be plowed of snow. Cabin rental: Contact Council Office Camping Services to reserve a cabin, 717/ Check Council web site for availability. Patrol Sled Equipment Required on each Sled: Patrol Equipment Required on Each Troop s Sled will be judged and awarded points for having all required items on their sled. Evaluation will be at the Parade Field before & after Flag Raising but before Station Event start time of 9 am (8:15-8:50). Find Staff during this time, points will not be given out if you miss this evaluation. 1. Scout Handbook, minimum 1, more Handbooks = more points 2. Patrol Flag 3. Compass, min First Aid Kit 5. Paper and Pencil/Pen 6. Pocket Knife(s) 7. Backpacking or Small Cooking Stove (with appropriate fuel) 8. Fire Building: Flint & Steel or Bow Drill (no lighters) plus natural materials only (Tinder, Kindling and Main Wood Fuel). NO MATCHES. If matches are needed at FB Station, they will be provided. 9. Breakfast 9:00-?? Checkout Alaskan Adventure Station Guide Not all station information is listed. Scouts will need to be thrifty, well organized and function well under the Patrol s leadership. Stations on the day of the event may include additional challenges, point bonuses, modifications to the information listed below and all sorts of other legal speak here-in and set-forth on to thee. Points based on a nominal Patrol size of 8 but will be prorated for Patrols of other sizes. Anchorage Tomahawk Throwing. Everyone in Patrol must throw. Points awarded on stuck Tomahawks. Fairbanks Blindfolded Tent setup. Tent will be provided for each Patrol. Leadership and organization are important. Juneau Log / Tree Limb cutting. Two person fingertip wire saw speed challenge. All Scouts in Patrol must participate, pro-rated for patrol size. FAST FAST FAST (but safe).

6 Sitka First Aid. Think Charades Patrol member (patient) will be given a symptom card and will then act-out the first aid problem. The rest of the Patrol will then have to guess (diagnose) the problem and give the correct first aid to the patient. A scout is prepared. Review First Aid MB. Ketchikan Ice Rescue. Someone has fallen through thin ice in the middle of a lake. Time is of the essence, how do you retrieve and treat your victim? Wasilla Cooking. You will need a backpacking or small cooking stove (with appropriate fuel) to prepare a 3 course meal. Supplies (ingredients) will be provided. You ll need your mess kit but additional small cooking pots/pans and cooking utensils might be helpful (hint, hint). All courses must be completely consumed. Kenai Fire Building. Scout will need to bring and use natural materials only for making tinder, kindling and main fuel for fire. Points awarded for: 1. How fire is built: Bow Drill highest points, flint & steel next highest points (or other specialized method) or matches (provided at station) lowest points (Troops may use up to 3 matches BUT your score goes down for each match used), 2. Size of fire and 3. Time strings will be strung at 12, 18 AND 24, the more strings you burn through (in the allotted time), the higher your score Station criteria will be explained upon arrival to the station. Kodiak Orienteering. Be prepared to understand compass reading and how to estimate distance. Bethel Shelter Building. Boy it s cold and windy out tonight. You have everything you should need on your sled to build a shelter for 3 people. Points base on design, function, use of materials and other inventive adaptations. Patrols must arrive at station without anything preassembled.

7 Palmer Lashings and Travois racing. Build (lash) a travois and race against the clock. Points based on sturdiness and quality of lashings, team work of construction and race times of one passenger and two carriers.
