1 March 2008 Volume 2, Issue 3 Event Calendar Corvette Club Santa Barbara March 4th General Meeting Goleta Postponed Chino Airport Museum 22nd Greek Restaurant & Comedy Club Ventura April Greek / Comedy Esquire L e e W hi t ne y & F r e d M a r k l e y There is still time to sign up for a fun filled Evening at the Greek Restaurant and the Comedy Esquire featuring Ian Bagg on Saturday, March 22, At the Greek you can choose from a variety of traditional Greek fare or charbroiled Surf & Turf. You will also be entertained by voluptuous Greek belly dancers and high flying Greek dancers while enjoying your dinner. (Cash Only no Credit Cards) After dinner we ll take a short walk to the Comedy Esquire where you will be entertained by Ian Bagg whose style of comedy is reminiscent of Don Rickles. You may hear a raw joke or two, or be the brunt of some comedic insults, but I m sure you ll laugh until your sides hurt. The Comedy Esquire has a full bar which should help to keep your spirits up and ease the sting of Ian s barbs. If this isn t your Bagg, at least join us for dinner. We will meet at Carpinteria City Hall at 5:30 PM and depart promptly at 5:45 PM for the short drive to the Ventura Marina. If you would like to join in on the fun, please contact either Fred Markley or Lee Whitney (check your CCSB roster for telephone numbers or address). Ian Ba gg Ian Bagg is the most requested comedian at Comedy Esquire and is always a guaranteed sold out show. Ian is like no other comedian in the business, he rarely has a set comedy routine, instead he plays off the audience and improvs with the crowd. Ian is the last comedian you would ever want to heckle as he has made a career out of embarrassing people! You have been warned! Ian is our pick of the month! 1st General Meeting Goleta 7th Tonight Show Burbank 19th or 20th Club Photo 26th 27th Wine Run Paso Robles Meetings are 1st Tuesday of each month at 6:30PM at the Sizzler Restaurant, 5555 Hollister Ave., Goleta (Hwy 217 & Hollister) WE ARE ON THE WEB Inside this issue: NCM Ambassador 2 Reagan Ranch 2 Tonight Show 3 Gold Country Run 3 President s Message 3 Membership 4 Pine Mountain Bistro 4

John Barletta and Barbara LoMonaco worked together with the Young America s Foundation to put on a first class event. Fred Smith All of us enjoyed a wonderful box lunch on the Reagan lawn adjacent to a small pond (Lake Lucky), while we watched the horses and deer grazing in the nearby fields. Where were you in 1959? Forty-eight members joined together with a combination of steel & fiberglass leaving from the Timbers. 13 brave members drove their Corvettes and had the opportunity of a lifetime to have photos of their cars in front of the Western White House. Tours were provided of President and Nancy Reagan s home, tack room, garage and the Secret Service facility by extremely knowledgeable Young America s Foundation staff. This was an incredible run and I can only say to those that missed out that we are sorry you were not able to join us! See where Corvette was in 1959! Check NCM Website for answer (click here) National Corvette Museum At the January meeting part of John s report was the status of the 12 x 12 Brick that our Board approved the purchase of last year. John explained that he has been dragging his feet on ordering it because he was hearing rumors that some change was in the works with the Club brick program at the NCM. Well the wait was worth it as they announced the new program and it is that if the club purchases a Club brick that they will allow members of that club to purchase bricks that surround the club brick at $100 each (NCM member price) or $100 each for non NCM members (for this promotion only). The only requirement is that there is a minimum of 10 member bricks purchased at the same time. John passed around a signup sheet and when it came back he had 15 members sign up. Obviously many of you that are reading this have the same opportunity to purchase your own brick and join those of us that will be taking advantage of this John Jensen promotion. The goal is to have our bricks in place by the time we all go back to the museum in the 2009 Caravan. Please John at ojaivett@sbcglobal.net or call him at (805) If you are curious about what the bricks can look like see this webpage om/brick/index.shtml watch the page for a few minutes and random bricks are displayed..
3 Page 3 Volume 2, Issue 3 Tonight Show Jay Leno Claudia Whitney CCSB has reservations to attend the taping of The Tonight Show on Monday, April 7. The tentative plan is to leave Santa Barbara no later than noon to be in line at the studio in Burbank by 2:15 PM. The taping starts at 4:00 PM. We will plan to have dinner nearby after the show to give traffic time to clear up. The guests to be on the show that night will not be known until a week before. President s Message A group reservation requires a minimum of 20 people and a maximum of 25 people. There is no cost to see the show; however, there is a $200 cancellation fee if we cancel our reservation later than April 2. Also, if we show up with fewer than 20 people, they will not allow us in and will charge us with the cancellation fee. It is very important that anyone signing up for this run has definite plans to go, and if your plans do change, it is very important that you let me know immediately so someone else can take your place or so we can cancel the run in time to avoid incurring a $200 fee. The contact for this run is Claudia Whitney, (claudiawhitney@veri zon.net). A sign-up sheet will be passed around at the General Meeting on Tuesday, March 4. Barbara LoMonaco March is the month that our club needs to start thinking about a new slate of officers for the 2008/2009 year. According to our constitution, the slate of officers is presented at the April meeting, voted on at the May meeting and installed in June. Privacy Reminder Old Club Rosters should be shredded not just thrown in the trash when replaced ZR1 Corvette National Corvette Caravan returns to Bowling Green in The present board needs your help. We have a situation that has not occurred for a very long time. Each and every position on the board will become vacant in June president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, membership, publicity, historian, activities and NCM ambassador. All of these offices need to be filled. Now is the time to step forward and volunteer to fill one of the positions. Please contact me, or any other board member, and let us know which position you would be interested in taking. Don't be shy or worried that a board position would be too difficult for you to fill. Any of the present board members would be more than willing to assist and guide you. We would be happy to talk to you about the responsibilities for each job. This club is only as good as its members and we have absolutely terrific people in this club who would make great officers. We need you to volunteer now. Gold Country Run Sharon Smith The run is June 6th through June 10th to California s Gold Country. Those that have signed up will be receiving a series of s alerting participants of actions that need to be taken. As usual you will need to act ASAP to accomplish whatever is requested. Be sure to advise Sharon when you have completed the requests. SUPPORT THE NCM. See Frank for Club logo, embroidered clothing and club decals for your new car. Pine Mountain Bistro Lunch Lee W hitney According to an article in the February 24, 2008 edition of the Ventura Star, Highway 33 between So. Matilija Rd. and Lockwood Valley Rd. is closed due to a landslide. A bridge support beam gave way and about 130 feet of the embankment along the southbound side of the highway slid into the North Fork of Matilija Creek. The CHP expects a long term closure of the highway. P.O. Box Santa Barbara, CA At this point, I am not sure if Highway 33 will be re-opened by May 3. If it looks like it will not be re-opened, I will come up with an alternate destination. In the meantime, I will check with Caltrans from time to time and keep you posted. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Classified Ads For Sale: Three volume 2002 Corvette Service Manual. Purchased about two years ago. New condition. Original cost $149 plus shipping.
