The 2009 Christmas Party is scheduled for Saturday, December 12th, All members should have received an invitation from Mona Rotella via postal mail and if not, please contact Mona ASAP. Be sure to respond by the due date posted in the invitation so that Mona has a head count. January 2010: It s hard to believe that 2010 is just around the corner but no worries as we have already planned our 2010 Activities Calendar. Thanks to everyone that attended the 10/17 Planning Meeting and a special thanks to Steve and Linda Petersen for hosting the meeting at their home. We have penciled in a Progressive Dinner run in early January but we will discuss this activity at the November CCSB General Meeting. We also scheduled a Nethercutt Collection run on January 23 and we could use a volunteer to organize this run. Please contact Ed Clerkin if you can organize this run. 2 Page 2 Corvette Club Santa Barbara Participant Impressions We can hardly believe we were away a little over one month! Some of our favorite memories: Seeing all the cars lined up in Ontario and being excited to get started! The storm in Tucumcari just like in 2003, the ducks at the Peabody in Little Rock, finding Loretta Lynn s Kitchen in Tennessee and the delicious southern buffet there (Mona got a free piece of apple pie because it was her birthday). Arriving in Bowling Green and seeing so many other Corvettes. The Corvette Museum was fantastic! We could have spent more time there. Also the factory tour was even better the second time. Finding Abe Lincoln s birthplace was a happy surprise. Visiting Maker s Mark distillery and finding that they still had some Mint Julep available for purchase. We can t forget the seemingly haunted tavern in Bardstown. And we enjoyed touring the lovely Victorian mansion, Riverview at Hobson Grove in Bowling Green. Dinner at Jim s, visiting the Mariano s and Jensen's in NC. After we said our goodbyes we headed south to Savannah. We visited the Mercer Williams House made popular by the book and movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. We went to Baltimore, and two days later arrived in Pittsburgh on the anniversary of our first meeting there 39 years ago! Next, Ohio to visit Al s family. Heading south again, we met some former neighbors in Cincinnati for lunch. Next stop Nashville. We saw the Country Music Hall of Fame and the old Ryman Auditorium where the Grand Ole Opry was born. Travelling to Natchez proved to be very scary as we drove into the worst weather of the entire trip. It was raining so hard that windshield wipers were almost useless. It was like whiteout conditions. Consequently, we arrived in Natchez much later than planned and didn t have time to see any of the abundant antebellum mansions there other than the one we stayed at, which was pretty cool. Then San Antonio and the Alamo, a great tour. From there our sightseeing was over and time to head home! The overnight in El Paso was nice, the hotel shuttled us to a restaurant called Carlos & Mickey s, a really hopping place. We spent the last night in beautiful Blythe, CA where it was so hot we didn t even want to venture out for dinner, so we just ordered pizza and ate in our room. Finally home again the next day after a brief stop to visit Mona s parents! Al & Mona Rotella This was our third Caravan to the NCM and we look forward to the next one. Lots of reasons but they boil down to traveling with our Corvette family and sharing the road trip experience. Parts of the trip stand out beyond the rest like new parts of route 66, the Tucumcari Thunder & Lightning storms (2nd time), Elk City s hospitality and of course the stopping of traffic everywhere we went. The Hall of Fame dinner stands out because I was unable to control my cough and certainly made my presence known. Sharon s winning of a set of tires from Goodyear was certainly a standout event just seeing the look on her face was amazing thanks Sharon. Like most of the participants we also traveled after we left everyone in NC. We decided to travel as much as possible on back roads and highways rather than the Thruways. The small towns of America were amazing. We traveled through 30 States and put 10,400 miles on our no longer new C6. We had a ball! Fred & Sharon Smith

3 Page 3 Corvette Club Santa Barbara Back Roads to Pozo Saloon Bob & Inge Stallings A fun sunny day running back roads and curves to the 1858 Pozo Saloon for lunch. We traveled the east route from Carpinteria via 150 and 33 up the edge of the Carriso Plain to 58 to the Pozo Saloon for burgers and a Pozo Martini under the trees. In our travels through the golden grasslands we saw magpies, quail, red tail hawks, the ever fearless road chipmunks, and tarantula males walking across the road to find female mates. The hills are starting to get a thin coat of green after the much needed rain. Joining the fun were eight colorful vetts belonging to Fred & Anne Lopez, Sandy Rubel & Hib Halverson, Frank & Barbara LoMonaco, Jim & Judy Purcell, Thore Edgren & Paddy, Jerry & Dotty Livers and new members Mario & Sandy Nargi. They looked like Halloween candy in our mirror. The day was filled with curves, friends, fun and mystery we had a fun blue hair; a new redhead in a red vette; a borrowed bumblebee to carry J&J; an olive monster; a raisin hater says no olives ; a native daughter of the Taft area; and a Sturgis beer bi..ch, too. Due to goblin time constraints we used the 101 freeway for our return to the southland. We got back in time for the evening s Halloween Goblins... and to fall back from Daylight Savings Time. As always it is all about the cars and the drivers. Thanks for joining us.

4 Page 4 Volume 3, Issue 11 President s Message Fred Lopez We had a great turnout to the meeting in October, would like to encourage you attend once again. Unfortunately this is our last meeting at Jake s.. he is going out of business. Al Rotella, our very capable VP, is conducting a search for the a new meeting place. We will be discussing our meeting future at the meeting. The Christmas Party invitations have gone out.. we need a minimum of 50 people to have a party. Please sign up.. it will be great to see all of you at Mulligan s. Hope to see you at the meeting on Tuesday 3 November. Holiday Party Mona Rotella By now everyone should have received an invitation to the CCSB annual holiday party on December 12 th. If you haven t received one, please let me know. Since I won t be here at the beginning of December, it s imperative that I receive all the checks by the deadline on the invitation, November 27 th. Any checks in my mailbox after that won t be seen by me, and will be sitting in a stack of unopened mail at my neighbor s house. Privacy Reminder Old Club Rosters should be shredded not just thrown in the trash when replaced. National Corvette Caravan returns to Bowling Green in Grand Sport Just a few words about the gift exchange: We discussed this at the October meeting, and it was obvious that most members want to continue the tradition as we have done in the past. So each member who wants to participate will bring a gift. Our gift exchange is meant to be a means of fun interaction among the members. At the same time, it s not the place for gag gifts or white elephants. It s intended as a playful yet respectful way to share something special with other members of the club. It is not mandatory, and you may choose not to participate if that s your preference. If you do participate, please follow the guidelines for the gift exchange as stated on the invitation. In this way everyone goes home with something as nice as what they bring.
