After happy hour time, we played a board game made up by Thelma. This involved four paper boards with circular tracks on each one.

The track on each board was divided into sections and team member names were entered randomly on the track sections.

The object was to land on a name to gain prizes and points. The person with the most points won the overall game.

Page 9 The annual White Elephant Party hosted by Jack and Thelma George was held on Saturday, October 26 at their home in Loveland. After happy hour time, we played a board game made up by Thelma. This involved four paper boards with circular tracks on each one. There were four teams, one for each board. The track on each board was divided into sections and team member names were entered randomly on the track sections. Miniature Monster Trucks were game pieces and were moved around each track via rolls of dice. The object was to land on a name to gain prizes and points. The person with the most points won the overall game. After this bit of fun, the white elephant gift exchange began. There were the usual mixtures of nice gifts, gags, and junkie stuff. Also as usual, hysterical laughter filled the room and by the time the last gift was opened everyone was nearly worn out! After the exchange, Jack built a small fire in his back yard for the enjoyment of those who gathered there. The following photos document the action. Continued on Page 4

You can print the newsletters from the web site. MEMBERSHIP DUES The CGTOAD membership dues are $30.00 per year. This includes one primary and one associate membership. Annual dues are payable in June for the period of July through the following June. New member fees will be prorated if a member joins in a month other than June. Page 3 Joanne Cikowski Notes from the October 27 Membership Meeting The October Member Meeting was held at Quaker Steak & Lube Restaurant on 10/27/13. Twelve members attended. A brief Treasurer s report was read by Sara Garvais. Joanne Cikowski read the Secretary s notes. Topics Covered We now have a new club insurance policy with Hagerty Insurance at a lesser premium than the previous company. Our club is donating $ to The American Cancer Society on behalf of member Jason Wood who passed away on October 13, This was the request from his family if donations were being considered. This money was there to donate due to the proceeds received from the auto auction that some of our members volunteered for. We are asking for suggestions for locations for our Annual Dinner. Britany Hill is being looked into further by Shar and we may consider the Table Mountain Inn in Golden which is where we had the dinner last year. Discussion regarding the Club Clash at Bandimere will continue at the annual dinner to see how the Northern Club feels about individual participation. The Color Cruise was very enjoyable though attendance was low. Mike Mikutis commented on member George Racz car show. Shar reported that all who attended the George s White Elephant Party had a great time as usual. Thanks to Thelma and Jack for hosting this fun event again. Shar showed members the Forney Museum flyer for the children s Halloween Party. Our club was one of four major sponsors. Sara Garvais will check on a possible November member meeting location at the new Sam s #3 Restaurant in Glendale. Nominations for club officers were conducted. All current officers will continue their positions if required. Art Marshall was nominated for Vice President by Mike Mikutis but was not present to accept or turn down. Mike has volunteered for events coordinator with Rich Cikowski, if Art is selected for VP. Event dates 11/6 Board Meeting 11/16 Member Meeting and voting for officers. 12/7 Holiday Party at Norm and Shar s home in Golden. The meeting was adjourned at 1:00 pm

6 Classic GTO Association of Denver Got Yer Goat! by John Lawrence Page 6 In a recent article in Hemmings Muscle Machines, staff writer Jim McGowan related an experience he had some years ago at a GTO Nationals show in Columbus, Ohio. While strolling through the show, I noticed a badly damaged left rear quarter attached to a pristine, totally restored 69 GTO Judge. The owner was dejectedly sitting behind the car, so I asked him what happened. It seems that he was driving the Judge to the show when the rear tire simply came apart. The tread had separated from the tire core and beat the rear quarter into a crumpled, blackened mess before he could get to a stop. The other three tires looked Continued on Page 7

The owner couldn t remember exactly when he bought them, but he was going to replace all four before driving home. Recent conversations I ve had with club members prompted me to provide this warning for those who may not be aware of a very important fact: Tires wear out with age, no matter how little they are driven on. In fact, they wear out if they are NEVER driven on, even if they are stored in a temperature controlled environment. The sad fellow in the preceeding story is lucky that the only damage was to the quarter panel, because at highway speed the car could have rolled and cost him his life. So, the lesson here is replace your tires at least every ten years. Here s how you can tell how old they are (as in when they were made, because they might have been somewhat old when you bought them): Find the DOT code. For tires made in the year 2000 and newer, look at the last four numbers in the code. Our 1968 Firebird s redlines have DOT CYHCL1CD2108. The last four numbers, 2108, reveal that the tires were manufactured in the 21st week of the year They should be good for another five years. For tires made before 2000, get rid of them! However, here s how to find their age: Again, find the DOT code, but look at only the last three numbers in it. For these, the first two numbers are the week of manufacture, and the last number is the year. For example, 307 is the 30th week in 1997 (horrors!). So, be aware of the ages of your tires, and keep your car and its occupants in good shape!
