For those of you who plan and lead runs you know that doing a pre -run to check out the condition of the roads, is recommended. Tony asked Fred and myself to lead the run, so the day before the run we did the pre-run. It was a beautiful sunny day and both Fred and the 93 Vette were eager to revisit a favorite road of theirs, Decker Canyon, me not so much. However, as navigator in the lead car it was imperative that I be fully aware of the route so I took my Benadryl and off we went. We found the road to be in good condition and ready for our CCSB Corvettes and drivers to take the challenge of the hairpin turns, switchbacks, bicycles, and other obstacles. The passengers would face their own challenges including, in some cases, attempting to get their drivers to slow down so their heads and stomachs could get back in sync. Note to passengers: On CCSB curvy road runs, it is a good plan to fortify yourself with medication which will put you in some degree of lowered consciousness. This will allow both you and the driver to arrive at the destination with the driver being pumped after the driving experience and you being grateful for your driver s ability to keep the car on the road. So for the details of the run itself after the preliminary cautionary advice for future runs. We met in Ventura, made our way through the fields of produce on the Oxnard plains, drove by the beautiful mansions on Potrero Rd. and then Decker Rd. lay before us. I tightened up my seat belt, readied my camera for photo ops, and away we went. The sky was a little overcast, but who has time to look at the sky anyway on Decker Canyon. All eyes on the road please! I only asked Fred to slow down twice, but he ignored me. Probably because he has hearing issues he did not hear my yelling. I am sure that the drive was much too short for the drivers as they were all experiencing an adrenalin rush when we got to the Beach Café. The passengers were all smiles that they had survived and their feet were planted solidly on mother earth. As always the Beach Café did not disappoint. We sat in the outside patio area and walked through real beach sand to our tables. You can t get more Southern California beach scene than that. After a leisurely lunch it was time for Paula Megowan to go back to work. She had met us there as it is tax season and she had driven over the hill from Calabasas to join us for lunch. 2 Peter Mackins PRESIDENTS MESSAGE I hope everyone had a very nice Easter and that April Fool s Day past without you being pranked too often. We will be trying a new venue for our April meeting. There will be no change in the time, it is still April 5 th at 6:30 pm but the site will be the new High Sierra Grill at 521 Firestone Road in Goleta. From Fairview Avenue take Hollister toward Costco and Home Depot at the first traffic light turn left and you are there. After the meeting I would like your feedback as to whether you feel it is a better site for our meetings or if the Mesa Café is preferred. The main order of business is to select a new slate of officers for the fiscal year. Participation in this way not only helps the club but can be personally rewarding as well. The latest information I have is the present office holders will be seeking to remain in their current position with the exception of the Vice President. That does not mean you are precluded from running for one of the positions if you desire. The following are the duties of each office of the club: President shall give notice of all regular and special meetings to the membership, preside over all meetings of the club, appoint such Committees as necessary to carry out the activities of the club; serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors; act as ex-officio member of all committees; issue the call for regular and special Board meetings; see that regular elections are held in accordance with the club s Constitution; and carry out the directives of the Board of Directors; and shall be an authorized signer on club checks. Vice-President shall perform the duties of the President in his or her absence, coordinate the annual June Installation picnic and make arrangements with the restaurant for the monthly meetings. Secretary shall record and maintain custody of the minutes of the meetings of the club, make sure the minutes are available to club members monthly, and handle club correspondence. Treasurer shall collect all money due the club, keep the club books; make payment from club funds when so ordered by the Board of Directors; shall counter-sign all club checks; keep an account of all club money matters; reconcile the bank account every month and shall make regular reports of the financial condition of the club during regular meetings; and shall file the club s annual IRS Form 990-N (e-postcard) and annual FTB 199N California (e-postcard) after July 1, but no later than November 15 per IRS and FTB regulations.. Public Relations Director shall make sure that the club website is maintained, that articles are requested for the newsletter on a monthly basis, publish the club monthly newsletter on the web site, maintain monthly notice of the club meeting, and provide membership advertising in the newsletter. Membership Chairman shall collect dues, maintain the club roster and send it out to members monthly, be responsible for contacting parties interested in club membership through the Internet, develop material to attract potential members, keep membership records, report on membership status during regular meetings and provide name tags for new members. Historian shall collect and compile pictures taken at club events and maintain electronic records to document the activities of the club. Activities Director shall be responsible for developing ideas for club car runs and trips. The Activities Director shall serve as a facilitator for club activities and will not necessarily be responsible for individual club runs, trips, parties, etc., shall report on club activities during regular meetings, and shall submit a review of upcoming club activities for the monthly newsletter. National Corvette Museum Ambassador shall be responsible for maintaining and furthering the CCSB s contact, communication and partnership with the NCM. This position is a critical link between the Corvette community and Chevrolet, and the CCSB. The NCM Ambassador must be a lifetime member of the NCM. The NCM Ambassador shall provide a report to the membership at the monthly meetings. I must apologize that I am a month behind the process the slate should have been selected at the last meeting and presented at the this meeting. So if you do have an interest in serving please contact me so I can complete the slate and present it at the meeting. The other day I noticed an interesting article on line. Chevrolet has added a new delivery option in addition to the Museum Delivery. Later this year, you may be able to drive at and pick up your brand new Corvette (and some other Chevy vehicles), at the Daytona International Raceway Inc, at a newly build Chevy "dealership delivery" center. Apparently it may also include a lap or two around track. For more details please click on the link below. 2

Frank LoMonaco NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM MASTER AMBASSADOR The National Corvette Museum has taken over the responsibility of managing public tours of the General Motors Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant and the transition will take place over the next few weeks. Tours will be available every 15 minutes beginning at 8:30am CT with the last tour departing at 1:45pm CT. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages A discounted combo ticket to tour both the Museum and the Assembly Plant can be purchased for $16. Plant tours are available weekdays and typically last one hour. The walking tour is one-mile and no cell phones, cameras, purses, backpacks or electronic devices are allowed. Closed toe and closed heel shoes are required. Tickets for plant tours can be purchased online at or on-site at the Museum or Plant. Discounted combo tickets can also be purchased online or at either location. Online tickets must be purchased at least 24 -hours in advance of your tour time. Tour tickets are limited, and reservations are highly recommended. If you are going to be in Bowling Green, you should take a tour of the Corvette Assembly Plant to see how our cars are put together. It is fascinating! 3

Tony Megowan ACTIVITIES COLUMN April is a busy month with 3 runs scheduled. We have the La Brea Tar Pits on the 3 rd, the Morro Bay Runch Run on the 17 th, and the Zip Line and Flat Bread Pizza run on the 23 rd. Look forward to seeing everyone there. Again sign up on the website. The La Brea Tar Pits run will be on Sunday the 3 rd of April and will probably be over by the time you read this. I ll give a synopsis next month. The second event will be the Morro Bay Runch Run on the 17th of April. We are planning on going to Dorn s Original Breakers Café in Morro Bay. I will have a signup sheet at the meeting or did I mention you can sign up on the web site. Right now the plan is to leave Timbers north of Goleta on Winchester Canyon about 9:00 AM and arrive at Dorn s at about 11:00 AM for lunch. This will be the last run I lead in a metal car. Third is the Zip Line and Flat Bread Pizza Run on the 23rd of April. This run will be led by our illustrious president Peter Mackins. There will be a signup sheet at the meeting. Now for May... The first one is to The Petersen Museum on the 1st of May. I will have details on this run at the April meeting. You can sign up there or as always you can sign up on the web site. The second run will be the Runch Run on the 22nd of May to the Queen Mary for brunch. The cost will be $55.95 per person and $8.00 for parking. We will again leave the Vons Parking lot so as to arrive at the Queen Mary about 10:00 AM for Brunch. I will have more details at the April Meeting. As for signing up see above. I will lead this run in a brand new 2016 Long Beach Metallic Red Corvette Stingray. We take delivery on the 2 nd of May and will be home on the 16 th. Old Route 66 here we come. I will have a couple of articles on our trip back in the June and July Newsletters. Just a heads up for June. We will have the installation Picnic on the 5th and the Cayucos Abalone Run on the 25th and 26th. Details will follow. Look forward to seeing you all on one of the runs 4

Pat Bloom MEMBERSHIP COLUMN There are currently 97 members with 72 Corvettes. Our newest member is Ryan Mann who found us on the web. He is the proud owner of a 1982 Merlot C3. He joined us on the Paradise Cove run and will be with us on the La Brea Tar Pits run Sunday. Please say hello and we welcome him into the club. Best Wishes to our April Birthday People: 4/2 Marylyn Bruce 4/10 Paula Megowan 4/10 Peter Mackins 4/18 Lani Medina 4/29 Alan Emslie CONTINUED FROM FRONT PAGE The rest of the fearless souls who had followed Fred and myself to Paradise Cove headed back home via Hwy 1/Pacific Coast Highway. Thank you to: Ed Clerkin & his sister Kathy, Dave & Deb Hanks, Hib & Sandy Halverson, Ryan Mann, Tony Megowan, Ray Seider & grandson Jackson, and Dennis & Lise Trammell for joining us on this run to Paradise Cove. Just an FYI, Decker Canyon Road is wellknown to sports car enthusiasts, bikers, and bicyclists in Southern California and mentioning that you have been on it should give you some favorable acknowledgement from other thrill seekers among us. 5

Ed Clerkin WEBSITE BASICS A TUTORIAL SERIES A lot has changed since the early 2000 s where America Online (AOL) was the only dial-up internet gig in town. Today, most of us are on some sort of high-speed internet connection whether it is through your local cable company, a cell phone carrier or plain ole ma bell. We are more than ever a mobile society and no longer tied down by a desktop PC/MAC for access to the internet. And if you are still on dial-up, well (Ahem) you may want to consider upgrading. Internet mobility also forced the need to standardize website design in order to catch up with the technology that supported it. The surge of smart phones and tablets dictated a need for websites to be viewable on different media types and screen sizes. Web browsers also function differently among devices and websites needed to conform to the subtle nuances between browsers. WEBSITE DESIGN Most websites today follow a standardized design methodology so that the web experience is familiar to the end user across all websites. There are always exceptions to website design but the bottom line goal is this keep it simple. Generally, website developers follow this presentation layer in order for each page: Header, Menu Bar, Body Content and Footer. In the early days of website development, page presentation was a fixed size and was nearly impossible to resize or view all of the page content. Today, websites are built using a Responsive design meaning the site will re-size based on the device in use. WEBSITE NAVIGATION SMART PHONE/TABLET DEVICES Websites are developed using templates (also called Themes) that separate the 4 presentation layers mentioned earlier. This makes it easier for web developers to focus on the different presentation layers without causing a collision of code used to build a page. Each presentation layer also leverages common code found elsewhere. For example, desktop and portable devices must both use the same website template but the final visual presentation layer will differ. Common code would be leveraged in the website template to provide for both device types. This common code was built by some very creative propeller heads years ago and is still in use today. The CCSB website uses a Responsive design and it will re-size based on the device used. In the Smart Phone device example below (iphone 6+), the Menu bar is consolidated into a single image with 3 horizontal bars and the word Menu. - Tap or click Menu to show the menu bar navigation items - Tap or click on any menu navigation item shown to the left and it will open that page [Continued on Page 7] 6

WEBSITE NAVIGATION DESKTOP DEVICE On a desktop device (Windows/MAC), the Menu Bar is your primary method of navigating pages on any website. Again, there are always exceptions as there are some legacy websites where the menu bar is placed on the left or right and is called Sidebar Navigation. Sidebars can also be used for other purposes. The CCSB website on a desktop device shows a Menu Bar just below the header area. Each menu item is its own page AND may include additional drop down sub-menu items. For example, clicking EVENT CALENDAR on the Menu Bar takes you directly to the Event Calendar page. However, it also has 2 clickable sub-menu navigation items: EVENT ITINERARIES & BOOKING INSTRUCTIONS EVENT PICTURES Both sub-menu navigation items will take you to different pages. NOTE: Menu bar items/sub-menu items and hyperlinks embedded in page content only require 1 click not two. The CCSB website uses sidebar navigation in the Event Calendar page to show up to 8 upcoming events from our 12 month Events Calendar. You can then click on an Event to bring up the details and optionally click on a Download Itinerary button when provided. This concludes the April Website Basics discussion - to be continued next month. 7
