We were treated to incredible blue skies and sunshine as we drove through the hills and valleys along Lake Casitas. Our route took us through the quaint village of Ojai which is situated in a narrow valley flanked on both sides by spectacular mountain ranges. We descended Dennison grade into Santa Paula and proceeded to the historic Santa Paula Airport and Aviation Museum for the monthly First Sunday open house. The airport event coordinator provided us with special parking along one of the hangar taxi ways where more than a dozen restored vintage cars from the early Twentieth century were already lined up. Shortly after our arrival came the hot rods and roadsters, and a plethora of classic and custom cars followed by a Porsche Club. 2 Page 2 Volume 6, Issue 4 President s Message Sharon Smith The first three months of 2012 flew by. Speaking of flying, we are starting April with a run to the first Sunday event at Santa Paula Airport with run leaders Jim and Judy Purcell. Santa Paula Airport is the oldest airport in Ventura County opening in August This event gives us a great opportunity to get up close and personal to the planes and their owners/ pilots. It is always fun to walk the hangars and see what the owners have done to personalize their space. A big thank you to Thore Edgren for inviting us to his home to do the Pinot Noir tasting in March. The patio area provided perfect ambiance for our event and the wisteria was beautiful. Thank you also to Tony and Paula Megowan for providing great appetizers and for pouring and keeping track of the wines we tasted. If you have not attended one of these Winos Gone Wild events, you really are missing out on a great afternoon just relaxing with friends. April also signals the nominations for the new board being submitted to the membership at the general meeting. Thanks to all of you who have agreed to run for office for the club year. There are some recurring and some new events planned for the rest of the year and I encourage you to check the activities calendar and participate in as many as you can fit into your schedule. Better yet, put them on the calendar and let the rest of your life fill in around them. Fred and I started doing that years ago, and it really made us take time out to have fun. I know that does not always work, but you would be surprised how often it does. Remember without u there is no club. DETROIT The Chevrolet s Corvette, the best-selling luxury performance car in the U.S., was inducted into the Sebring Hall of Fame during the weekend. Corvette first competed at Sebring in 1956 and since that year, 231 Corvettes have competed in the Twelve Hours of Sebring race, 24 of them scoring class or category victories in this legendary contest. Seven of the Sebring wins were tallied by Corvette Racing, the most successful team in the history of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Corvette Racing finished strong in Sunday s 60th anniversary race, placing second and third in the GT Class. We are thrilled that Sebring has recognized the success of the Corvette on the race track by inducting it into the hall of fame, said Russ Clark, Chevrolet marketing director for Performance Cars. Even more important than the awards and race wins are the benefits to our production vehicles as a result of our racing programs, said Clark. We have been successful at transferring racing technology to the street, especially in our high-performance vehicles such as the Corvette ZR1, Z06 and our carbon fiber models, including aerodynamic, power train, chassis, braking, safety and design features. Chevrolet is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Corvette with the 427 Convertible Collector Edition, as well as a special 60th anniversary package that will be available on all 2013 models.

Page 4 Volume 6, Issue 4 Corvette Club Santa Barbara NCM Master Ambassador Frank LoMonaco Corvette Museum Motorsports Park Approved In Kentucky The massive motorsports park planned for the area across the highway from the National Corvette Museum took another step closer to construction this week as Warren County, Kentucky, authorities approved the zoning necessary to place a track there. The National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park would also be adjacent to the Bowling Green Corvette assembly plant. The new ordinance includes 405 acres of land rezoned for the motorsports park, according to the Bowling Green Daily News (via Corvette Blogger). The park, which would be built by the Corvette museum, would include a double road-course configuration, which when linked will be the longest course in the U.S., according to the track's team. It will also feature a 10-acre autocross pad, a skid pad, and a quarter-mile drag strip. The road course is said to be modeled on the Le Mans circuit in France, with elements from the Nurburgring, Watkins Glen and other tracks. With a $35 million budget and two- to three-year time table for construction once started, the park won't quite be ready for the expected arrival of the C7 Corvette in Once it's up and running, it likely would be the biggest and best playground for Corvette owners anywhere. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 31, 2012) - After more than seven years of trying, everything came together for Spirit of Daytona in a near-perfect day at Barber Motorsports Park. Richard Westbrook and Antonio Garcia combined to lead all but 19 of the 103 laps to win the Porsche 250 in the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP - the first Daytona Prototype victory for the team and the first victory for the new car in GRAND-AM Rolex Series competition. Gurney, driving the No. 99 GAINSCO Auto Insurance Corvette DP, held off Scott Pruett over the closing laps to take second.

Page 5 WE ARE ON THE WEB Volume 6 Issue 4 Vintage Fashion Expo Sharon Smith CCSB Ladies Only Event. Spring s New Retro Look and The Original Vintage Fashion Expo at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on Saturday, May 5. Regular Admission opens at 10:30 AM. Regular Admission $10, but I have $2 off coupons. Parking $9.00 in the auditorium s parking lot. All of the shopping area is indoors. Wear comfortable shoes. It seems that lately our culture is reveling in a movement of lady-like feminine nostalgia. With TV shows such as Mad Men, Pan Am and movies like My Week With Marilyn, we are having a certain neo-retro moment. With the current cultural shift towards everything homegrown, hand- made and recycled, now more than ever is a great time to start adding vintage fashions to your wardrobe. For me, the best thing about wearing something vintage is you can somehow manage to be both on trend and chic while almost always pulling off a very one-of-a-kind look. If you are interested in attending this event, the plan is to arrive at the show shortly after it opens at 10:30 and spend about 3 hours shopping. There are over 85 vendors selling clothes, jewelry, shoes, hats, home décor, etc. There is food available at the show venue. After the show, if there is any interest, we can walk to M Street Kitchen for a late lunch, and then return home. Corvettes are not required on this run, and ride sharing is encouraged. Departure details will be given when I know how many will be attending. We will be driving down Hwy 1 to this event. If you did not sign up at the April meeting and want to join us, please contact Sharon Smith at or sharon@smithshome.com. Deadline for signup for this run is Wednesday, April 25.

Page 7 WE ARE ON THE WEB Volume 6 Issue 4 Winos Gone Wild Battle Pinot Noir Tony & Paula Megowan Glorious Saturday afternoon in sunny Southern California check. Sitting on a beautiful patio with the wisteria and jasmine blooming all around..check. Good friends, good food, and a bottle or two (or eleven) of Pinot Noir to drink..check!!! That s right, we could not have asked for more beautiful weather on Saturday, March 10 as we blind tasted 11 different Pinot Noir wines while sitting on Thore s patio. We especially want to thank Thore for opening his home and hosting the event on his lovely patio. We drank all of the wine, ate pizza and salad and had brownies for dessert. Cheers! Those joining us were Sandy Halverson, Roger Hoyt, Dennis & Lynne Merenbach, Frank & Barbara LoMonaco, Wendell & Judy Hans, Fred & Sharon Smith, Fred & Anne Lopez, and of course Thore Edgren & Pia, and Tony & Paula Megowan. Dennis & Lynne Merenbach have already volunteered to host the next Winos Gone Wild event which isn t on the calendar yet, but will probably be scheduled for September and the featured wine will be Viognier. Hope you can join us!

Page 8 Volume 6, Issue 4 Corvette Club Santa Barbara Santa Paula Airport (continued from front page) Jim Purcell We strolled in and out of several dozen hangars all having unique collections of modern, vintage and traditional flying machines. One common trait became apparent as we proceeded from one hangar to the next. These folks aren t satisfied with just tinkering with their airplanes there was hardly a hangar that didn t also have motorcycles, dirt bikes, dune buggies, race cars, speed boats and many other examples of activities that tend to make adrenaline secrete. Privacy Reminder Old Club Rosters should be shredded not just thrown in the trash when replaced. There were also eclectic collections of memorabilia, paraphernalia and historical artifacts whose owners were only too happy to provide the narrative that brought those objects to life. One of the most interesting included one of the best collections of antique radios, phonographs, and television sets to be found anywhere. There was even a TV set from 1948 that was actually working as witnessed by several of us gathered around watching an early episode of I Love Lucy. It was like taking a trip back in a time machine. We worked up quite an appetite with all that walking which we satisfied with freshly barbequed Tri-tip, chicken and ribs served right there at the spacious and attractive CAVU restaurant. All in all, we were treated to a spectacular day in a manner befitting what we ve come to expect as members of the Corvette Club of Santa Barbara. This is the way one is supposed to spend a Sunday afternoon with their Corvette, friends and loved ones. MEMBERSHIP HIGHLIGHTS: Privacy Reminder Old Club Rosters should be shredded not just thrown in the trash when replaced. We found out at the Daytona Party that Sandy and Hib have a replacement for their "fleet". Sandy sold "Taz," the beloved 1982 Collector Edition which she'd owned for, like...ever. They replaced the 82CE with a spanking new 2012 Z06. Sandy tells me that neither of them have ever bought a NEW Corvette they've always bought used ones so a Vette with that "new car smell" was on their "bucket list". She added that she ordered it in Carlisle Blue, then is going to have the white stripe which Chevrolet Accessories sells applied. Sandy and Hib already own a C5 Z06 and the track rat Hib can sometimes be, he wanted their C6 Z to, also, be a serious performer so he ordered it with the basic ILZ equipment group (no nav, no Bose and no heated seats. Now...that's hardcore!), the Z07 performance package (Magna-Ride, engine and trans coolers, carbon fiber body parts and ceramic brakes) and the B92 carbon fiber hood. They also ordered RPO PBC, the "Corvette Engine Building Experience" and Hib was back in Wixom MI in late Feb. to assemble his LS7 engine. They bought the car from Tom Henry Chevrolet in Bakerstown PA because Tom Henry contracts with Hib and his business partner for web site design and content services and they worked out a nice deal on the car in exchange for some special pricing on web work. In mid-april, Sandy and Hib fly back to Pennsylvania to get the car and drive it back to Goleta. On the way, they'll stop in Virginia at Zip Products, one of the SoCal/ SoNev Caravan sponsors, they'll visit the National Corvette Museum for the Caravan Section Captains' meeting which takes place twice a year and they'll stop in Williams, Arizona to meet with various vendors concerning the Caravan's stop there on the first night of the event in I can hardly wait for Sandy to drive the car to a meeting and show off that pretty Carlisle Blue! I should add this acquisition makes the Halverson's way over the top with all their darn Z's...2 Z06es, a ZR-1 and a ZR-2. What the heck is a "ZR-2", anyway? CLASSIFIEDS 2009 Forged Polished Aluminum Wheels. Fits P245/40ZR18 tires on the front, P285/35ZR19 tires on the aft. One is slightly scuffed, other three in excellent condition. $500 OBO.
