WHAT: The Amazing Scout Race, aka Spring Camporee, 2016 WHEN: Friday, April 22, 2016 through Sunday, April 24, 2016 WHERE: General Butler State Park, Carrollton, Kentucky WHY: You and your Scout Friends will have fun! HOW: Registration will be opening soon on the Council website: The early bird fee will be $10/person through 4/10/16. After that, it will be $15/person. What should you expect from this camporee? A fun weekend of Boy Scout camping, lots of activities, meeting old and new friends. What are some things you might get to do? OA Callout, putt-putt golf, canoeing, compass challenge, knife throwing, mental and physical challenges, fire building, knot tying, scavenger hunting, lashing, and other possible challenges and fun activities What should I bring? Your basic camping essentials, your Boy Scout Handbook, a compass, some rope, all your Scout Skills, a sack lunch for Saturday, a daypack, a portable personal water supply for Saturday, and LOTS of Scout Spirit.

2 WELCOME! We re glad you have been able to join us for The Amazing Scout Race, aka the Trailblazer and US Grant Spring Camporee Our goal will be for everyone to have a great time enjoying all that General Butler State Part has to offer us while keeping everyone safe. To that end, let s get a few VERY IMPORTANT things out of the way first. Rules for the Weekend General Rules First and foremost, obey the Scout Oath and Law. When in doubt, ask yourself if whatever you re about to do meets up to those criteria. If it fails just one point you probably should be doing it. Obey ALL the rules of the park. 1. Vehicles are ONLY allowed on the pavement unless told otherwise BY PARK MANAGEMENT. There will be no other exceptions allowed. Yes, that may mean you have to carry some of your gear further than you like. You re Boy Scouts. Show you are Physically Fit and get the job done. 2. We are guests of the park, no loud horseplay near other campsites and no wandering through other campsites. Remember the rule for visiting other campsites within the camporee ask for permission to enter, etc. 3. Please observe the rules for quiet after lights out. 4. Unless participating in a planned activity on the water, stay out of the water. 5. When on the trails throughout the park, remember the teachings of Leave No Trace stay on the designated paths, take only photos memories and leave only footprints and positive change. Positive change? Please carry trash/grocery bags with you during the race grab some of the trash you see and make the park better for having you here for a visit. 6. Results from all activities are final, according to the judges. 7. Fires are ONLY allowed in the designated areas/firepits/etc. Where not available, portable firepits may be used. Check for permission. 8. Firewood is available at the ranger s station. In addition, deadfall material can be collected per the park management. Kentucky State Parks Trail Regulations 1. Trails are managed as part of the natural environment. 2. Visitors must be prepared to meet and accept nature on it s own terms. 3. Stay on designated trails. 4. Trails close at dusk. 5. Do not hike alone. 6. Proper footwear recommended. The following are prohibited: 1. Unleashed pets 2. Rappelling & Rockclimbing

3 3. Hunting or disturbing wildlife 4. Collecting or digging for artifacts 5. Picking flowers or harming plants 6. Carving or damaging rock formations & trees 7. No bicycles, motorized vehicles, fires, drinking/smoking, camping, horses Fishing Pier Rules 1. No diving off pier 2. No swimming in lake 3. No sitting on rail 4. No climbing on rail 5. No hanging on rail 6. No tying boat to pier 7. Please remove all trash 8. Total maximum weight limit is 4800 lbs. Friday Night Schedule ***Passover Service will be available. See Cliff Bailey or ask a staff member if interested.*** 5:00 9:00 PM Sign-in (watch for signs/people directing), camp setup, dinner, playing card challenge. 9:00 10:00 PM SPL/SM Meeting Place to be announced Come prepared with rosters of 5-7 patrol members. No more than 8! 10:00 PM Lights Out! Rules for Saturday s events will be covered and start times drawn. Saturday Schedule 6:00 7:30 AM Breakfast in campsites Don t forget to prep & pack your lunches! 7:30 AM Flags 8:00 AM 5:00 PM The Amazing Scout Race Start times will be staggered every 10 minutes starting at 8:00 AM Your patrol s overall time will be logged back at the same spot when you re done. No Shortcuts! The goal of the activities for the day will be to have friendly competition.

4 If your patrol has an early or late start time, consider taking advantage of the additional activities listed. Pack a lunch! 5 Saturday s Amazing Race Activities Puzzled? - So are we. But can you solve it within time? North, South, East, West Where do we go from here? Shart pointed things should be thrown, right? Can you accept the limitations like others have? And you think you have it tough No stoves in the woods Getting Person X from Point A to Point B without using his own limbs can be challenging Knots? We love them! If you can t thrown the sharp pointed things, then by all means launch them! Row Row Row Your Boat Well, sorta using a paddle is advised. It s not pointed, it can t be launched, but it s got a sharp edge yep, tossing it! Additional Saturday Activities/Options Beware the tiny gophers! What do you mean Look for stuff as I hike 7+ miles around this park trying to complete the challenges in a timely manner? This paddle has a blade on both ends? Guess it s for the water, too We ll provide the real names for all the events when you arrive. We wanted to keep you guessing in the meantime. In addition, maps will be handed out to the patrols on Saturday morning.
