1 June-July 2006 Sedona Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America Tire Tracks THE VOICE OF THE SEDONA CAR CLUB PUTTING DEAD TREES TO GOOD USE President s Vehicle Ah. Summer s here. I am writing this message just after Memorial Day Weekend, which always seems to be the official beginning of summer. I remember this especially because back when I was selling insurance I called on a prospect who was a boat dealer in the week before the Memorial Day Holiday. He threw me out explaining that this was his busiest week of the year, when everyone wanted to have his boat serviced now, in time for the beginning of summer. Rachel and I celebrated the holiday, and our 29 th Wedding Anniversary, by taking our first summer RV trip. We went up to the White Mountains. And what was one of the objects of this summer trip? To go somewhere will (re)retire. We wish all those going on the tour a safe and fun trip. Our Club s second summer event will be our Annual Picnic, to be held at the Sedona Community Center (can you believe the Adult Community Center changed its name and stole our initials, SCC?). The Picnic will be in lieu of our regular meeting on June 13 th and will start at 5PM. I hope to see all of our members there. You can still make reservations by calling Larry Currie or I by June 9th. (Larry will be on tour June 7-9) INSIDE THIS ISSUE Environmental Follow-up..3 Meet the Members Mother s Day.. 6 Gallivanting Gains...7 cooler. Go figure. Many of our luckier members will be taking a summer trip next week, up to the mountains of Colorado, on a great tour organized by Bill Harrison. I regret that Rachel and I will not be along on this journey. Rachel has a couple more weeks of working at her postretirement job, and then So have a great summer! Enjoy using your Funny Olde Car. See ya at the picnic. David Lombardi, President JUNE PROGRAM PICNIC! PICNIC! Volume 2 4 Number 6

3 VISIT US AT: MAY MEETING MINUTES President Lombardi led off with the Pledge. Mary Tulley led congrats to Rachel and David for their performances in The Music Man. We currently have 61 families and total 110 members. Gary Carson announced the first car show meeting will be at the Carson's home on May 3l at 10 a.m. Attendees will be contacted. AND WE'RE LOOKING FOR VENDORS. The Bent Hubcap Award was passed from Herb Levinson to Gary Carson. Upon hearing Gary's tale of woe, Herb stated "That's more automotive pain in one week than I have experienced in my 80-plus years." no environmental impact...one year later T rue to it s word, Tire Tracks continued to follow the story of the oil discovery at Red Rock State Park last year about this time. (see Tire Tracks on our web site, June 2005) Last year s discovery coincided with the festive Sedona Car Club British Car Owners Picnic at the park. Tire Tracks pointed out that the contentiousness of this issue was bound to split the car club community and it did. Nothing has been done to date to either exploit the discovery or shut the discovery down. All that we are left with is oil (seemingly refined) continuing to bubble up through the asphalt parking surface. The evidence this year can be seen in a picture below at this years Brit Car Owner s Picnic. Oil was found oozing up from underneath Dave Binkley s Sunbeam. Car Show enthusiasts please note two shows in Prescott, on the Square: June 3 and Classics on June 17. Of interest: Al Moss sold his 3 wheeler Morgan... Since our meeting, we learned of the death of M. Leeds Chesshir, a charter member of our club who served several terms as our Treasurer. A sympathy card was sent to his wife, Joanne, and their family. Ready for our fun picnic? It's June 13 (regular meeting date) and yes, the meal includes ice cream! Guests $10, members $5 and No Shows pay anyway (the club picks up the other 50% cost). Time is 5-8 p.m. Y'all come! Programs co-chair Clyde Bangiola bravely took over when our guest speaker had a scheduling emergency. Clyde gave us Pre Trip Check tips. Examples: Carry a fire extinguisher in your car (Halon brand recommended). Carry an extra fuel pump, alternator, jumper cables, belt and coil. Talk with Psychic Mechanic Clyde Bangiola while you're at it. Respectfully submitted, Sharon Blankenship, Secretary Brit car owner picnic host, Ed Pittman, left in his new age retro Healy shirt holds court over the grill and reminds Curry to not drink and drool over the Buffalo Burgers. Thanks to Ed and Alva for hosting although Alva could not be there as she was recovering from a recent fall. Best wishes to her on a speedy recovery. VISIT US AT: Page 3

4 Meet the Members CLYDE & GAIL BANGIOLA N estled in the foothills of the Mingus Mountains, these transplants from Escondido, California live in a modest single car garage home overlooking some impressive Arizona real estate. NOT!! Actually, many of us could live comfortably in a structure of this size, but this picture to the right is JUST the Bangiola s garage! This is a two story structure that will accommodate at least 7 cars with plenty of bench space. Behind the single door is a working bay complete with in ground hydraulic lift from Clyde s days in the early Ford repair business. Behind that bay is an office. The second floor contains a recreation area and a fully stocked parts room! So you ask, why? I say why not! A little history may explain. Clyde s family owned a General Store and gas station with an outside lift for minor maintenance. So this beginning served as a strong imprint for his future. Clyde worked 3 years in a Ford agency becoming a line mechanic and soon after joined the Army and continued his mechanic training. Upon discharge in the early 60 s, he went to work for his father in the service station business. Clyde and Gail married in 1962 and together they built a restoration and parts business that exist to this day. Page 4 (Con t on page 5)

5 Meet the Members (con t) In 1982 they relocated the restoration business to California and started C&G Early Ford Parts. For almost 10 years they lived in a small apartment above the business. Their daughter Dorothy now owns the parts business and about 5 years ago Clyde sold the restoration business and they moved to Arizona. So, like many of our members the Bangiola s worked their little rear ends off for many years and have so deserved the reward of a nice home and let s not forget...that garage! Way to go! 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe 1934 Ford 2-door Sedan Wish You Had A V-8 Instead? Trophies stacked to the ceiling. Notice Clyde s judicious use of rags to protect work bench. Page 5
