We will meet for breakfast at 9:00 AM at The Landings restaurant in the Henderson Airport. The address is: 3500 Executive Terminal Dr., #200, Henderson, NV. The Lion Habitat Ranch is open from 11 AM - 3 PM. If we have more than 30 people in our group the cost will be $15 per person. If we have less than 30 people the cost will be $20 per person (if a resident of NV). You won t want to miss seeing these fabulous animals; not to mention the ostriches, emus and the interesting antics of Ozzie, the giraffe. Your host for this event is John Pendergast ( }. Contact him if you have any questions. May 18-19, Ely, NV Tour Jeanie Prouty and John Munoz are our hosts for this overnight event. We will be leaving Las Vegas at 10:00 AM on the 18th from the Iron Skillet Cafe at the Speedway. We will take the I-15 to the US 93 turnoff to Ely. The distance to Ely is approximately 240 miles. Arrangements will be made to ride the train on Saturday from 1-3 PM. Tickets are $31 for adults ACTIVITIES VICE PRESIDENT and $15 for children If we have 12 or more in our group, tickets will be discounted. We need to know if there is substantial interest in this event so please contact our hosts if Tom Rowlett you have questions. 2 Letter From The President March went by in a flash, kind of like the wind. April has it s challenges with a change in venues due to lack of interest in the Clark County Fair situated in Logandale, NV. Well onward and upward. At the last minute we have decided to go to the Lion Habitat in Henderson next to the M Resort on April 14 th. Details are on the front of the newsletter along with the plan of action. With that said, Judy and I have visited the Lion Habitat and we did some digging; they like large groups and have group rates. I was able to get the entry fee down to $15 per person, but there s a catch - we need to have 30 plus to get that rate. We have 18 from the meeting and I m sure there s others in the club that will not miss out on the opportunity to see this attraction. The lions are from the old exhibit at MGM. After visiting these beasts you can see why they call them The King of The Jungle. I wouldn t want to be caught in their habitat. Here s a chance for you to get up close with The King of The Jungle. reminder We must not forget their newest addition - Ozzy. This Giraffe is entertaining to say the least and people line up for a chance to feed and take pictures with the tall gentle giant. You will be entertained by the reaction of the people. This is a must see. So with this said we will see you at 9 AM for breakfast on Saturday the 14 th. Then regroup at the Lion Habitat at 11 AM sharp. Ely is on and we need to get the numbers up so we can make this great tour. For those of you who have not made this scenic drive it s worth the trip. There are towns & places to stop and see along the way both coming and going. So mark your calendar and make a weekend of it. 3 MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING - APRIL 3, 2018 The meeting was brought to order by President John Pendergast. Past President John Munoz lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 32 members in attendance. There were guests as well: Chris and Scott representing Teen Challenge and the April 7th car show they are sponsoring. Secretary Judy Pendergast called the roll. All officers and chairs were present with the exception of Sunshine Chair Bobi Spangrud. A call for a motion to accept the minutes of the March meeting was made by President Pendergast. The motion was made by Joyce Burke and seconded by Max Miller. Motion passed. President John Pendergast introduced the guests and welcomed them to our meeting. Both gentlemen talked about Teen Challenge and the event being held Saurday. Teen Challenge is a month recovery program for teens at the Las Vegas Center and will benefit from the car show. The show s registration is $25 and there will be music, food, goody bags and raffles. He also introduced our newest member, Lee Hoffman who has a 1952 Chevy Convertible. Also, Jonathon Schilling has joined as of last month s meeting. The pizza run will be set for July 21, 2018 according to our hosts, Barbara and Joe Baudoin. The Ice Cream Social will be hosted by Bruce and Bobi Spangrud in August. The Touchan Tour will be hosted by Carla and Anthony Adsit in September. Activities VP Tom Rowlett says that a host or hosts are needed for the proposed Beatty Days Event October 26-28, Host John Munoz requested that, in lieu of the Show & Shine, all proceeds from the November Poker Run be given to Red White & Blue Dog Tags. He also suggested that the run be within the city with interesting stops rather than in the outlying areas as in the past. Tom reminded the club that, after the July Jamboree, Sunday July 15, we are invited to tour the car collection of member Dennis Rutkoskie in St. George, UT. Membership VP Danny Barnett reminded everybody that dues for new recruits for 2018 will be $50 for both local and National. Sunshine Concerns: Sharon Noah fell and has 2 serious fractures in her pelvis and tail bone, but is doing better. Lorraine Hanna continues to brave her health issues and conveys her well wishes to the club. Harry Ransom is having some issues with his hip and is in a wheelchair. Please keep our members in your thoughts and prayers. Treasurer Dion Stams gave the March 2018 report. At this point in time the club has 63 paid members. A motion to accept said report was made by Betty Rowlett and seconded by Gene Lemasters. Motion passed. Vice President John Munoz announced the passing of Past National President Dr. Mike Werkle. Donations can be made to the National Scholarship Foundation or to Dr. Werkle s Foundation, both of which are listed on the National Website. Activities VP Tom Rowlett spoke about the lack of interest in the Clark County Fair resulting in the cancelation for the club. Instead, John Pendergast will be hosting a trip to the Lion Habitat Ranch after breakfast at The Landings restaurant. This will be Saturday, April 14, Please see the front page of this newsletter for information. Jeanie Prouty gave further details on the Ely Tour coming up May 18-19, Please read her article on page 6 of this publication. Jeanie has done a lot of preliminary work for this tour so get signed up and join us. Page 3 Club Store Keeper Dion Stams reported that you can now put our club logo on your own supplied shirts. There is also a new and bigger logo suitable for our jackets that has been paid for by club member, Robby Sewell. Web Master Fosco Picchi reported that there is now a link to the registration information on our web site. Our new Western Region Director, John Munoz stated that it is pretty certain that we will be hosting the 2020 Board of Governors Meeting. The 50/50 drawing was won by Don Derr. The next meeting will be May 1, 2018 at the Home Plate Grill & Bar. Motion to adjourn was made by Anthony Adsit and seconded by Skip Yarema and passed. There were 6 officers present and 2 members at large. The first order of business was a report from Dion Stams, Treasurer. He gave the club s bank balances and talked about taking certain members off of the Signature card at the bank and putting other current ones on. Tom Rowlett brought up the amount of money in the bank and suggested we give some to charity; especially in lieu of the cancelation of the October Show & Shine. John Pendergast said that we needed quite a sum for the future plans of the Board of Governors Meeting in 2020 as everything needs to be paid up front. John Munoz stated that he would be requesting funds for advertising the club to create new chapters and also for his travels. For the time being the funds shall remain in the bank. As Secretary, Dion Stams reported that the club has 62 members with all renewals and withdrawals. Tom Rowell, Activities VP, talked about the upcoming activities and indicated that there may not be enough interest in the Logandale County Fair and/or the Ely Tour so alternate events might need to be considered. John Munoz will check on the Las Ventanas Car Show for May and John Pendergast will check on the Lion Habitat for April. Other suggestions were offered: Bonnie Springs, an afternoon matinee, a Calico Basin picnic, the Grand Canyon Railroad, Scotty s Castle and car museums in California with the possible use of a tour bus which Danny Barnett will check into. Bruce and Bobi Spangrud will host the August Ice Cream Social. John Munoz talked about the Poker Run being held in town this year. It was decided to keep the location of our general meetings at the Home Plate Grill & Bar for now. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 PM. Respectfully submitted, Judy Pendergast, Secretary Page 4
