[Glenn Novak] Rain Date - June 17 Our weather continues to improve and warm up and Spring is here. Several of us brought our old and new cars out for the grand opening of the cruise night season up in Villa Rica with the Golden City Cruisers on Saturday, March 18th and had a good time visiting with friends. Bill, Frank and I distributed lots of our car show flyers. Bill is off to a good start as he won a door prize already! The following Saturday Frank brought flyers up to the Dallas show and handed them out while extending a personal invitation to a local couple displaying a freshly-restored three-wheel motorcycle. The countdown has begun for our annual car show on June 10th at Bell Chevrolet. We will pick up many more flyers at the April meeting and continue distributing them at local car shows and cruise nights as we usually do. Please help our club again this year by getting out flyers and attempting to get a trophy sponsor or two. The cost is $30 per trophy and the sponsor may pick any class not yet taken. Also, let any of your friends who own motorcycles, or know folks who own them, know about this addition to our show. And we want kids to come also and bring their plastic car models to display and have judged. Our next meeting is once again at American Pie at 6:30 pm on Thursday, April 6th. Our agenda will include further discussion of plans for our car show. We will need to discuss an absolute deadline for the engraving of trophies with sponsor names. Liz and Rick will order them again but will have a very tight deadline as they will be preparing to leave on their trip. Someone else in the club may need to volunteer to pick up trophies after last-minute engraving in their absence. We are invited to join the Golden City Cruisers on Saturday, April 8th for an afternoon tour and lunch in Rockmart, where we can visit a car museum and a motorcycle museum, and appreciate the food and motorcycle décor of the Knucklehead Café. All the details are on our club website at under Coming Events. We need to give them a head count. Bring your calendars again to our April meeting so we can check dates and look at other tour and event possibilities in the near future. Some details appear in this newsletter and/or on our website, so we hope with good weather you will attend one or more. Note that the date for our annual Tri-Club picnic is November 4th. Our club is hosting the event this year. Thanks again to Mary and Fred for lining up their church fellowship hall to accommodate our large group in the likely event of cooler weather. Our website is updated now to include other things coming up that may be of interest to club members. Take a look and let me know if you have something you would like me to add, including cars or parts for sale (or wanted). The newsletter and website are for all of us to use. Enjoy the Ride! Glenn President's Message April
2 Jack Miller introduces his 1930 Dusenburg Convertible Sedan Jack & Drena Miller Car Collection: A Tour Re-Cap By Glenn Novak Saturday, March 4th was a great day for a joint car club tour. We had about 15 or so people from our AACA region and about the same from the Golden City Cruisers, and we started off around 9 am from Carrollton for our trip to Fayetteville to tour the wonderful car collection of fellow AACA members Jack and Drena Miller. It took just a bit over an hour to get to their place. After arriving, we entered the Miller residence through the upper level garage and were treated to hot coffee, juice and donuts. We were introduced to our hosts and had a chance to decompress from the drive and mix and mingle a bit. Next to our tables were parked a very nice Model A Ford and a large Overland touring car, both beautifully restored. Our group enjoyed seeing the rest of the collection as we went downstairs to the lower level garage and outside to the back yard area. The Millers and their extended family and friends took time to show us the cars and answer questions. The weather was just beautiful all day and it was a real treat to walk about and leisurely explore the fine collection. Inside the basement was a gray 1941 Packard 180 sedan with coachwork by LeBaron and equipped with electric windows and factory air conditioning. You won t see many of these around. Nearby were splendid examples of a Stevens-Duryea and a Mercer, plus Packards nearing completion. What a sight! Jack took obvious pleasure in showing us his 1930 Duesenberg Murphy-bodied dual-cowl phaeton, and it was a thrill to hear it start up and run. This car is driven and enjoyed, not a trailer queen, and is a marvelous example of the combination of highly-advanced engineering and artistic beauty on wheels. Parked outside just behind the Duesy was a 12-cylinder 1937 Packard coupe, all original and just as it left the factory so long ago. This time capsule is a terrific unmolested specimen and will serve collectors in the future as a reference point to aid in proper restorations. An added benefit to our visit was the opportunity to meet many new people. Besides the Millers, we enjoyed talking with the Hueys and our new members, the Shotwells, who brought their Packard and Model A Ford, respectively, and parked prominently out front in a successful attempt to further beautify the neighborhood. Most of us left the Miller s place as a group for the short drive to lunch in downtown Fayetteville, where our discussions continued between repeated trips to the great lunch buffet at the popular local restaurant. We all had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We had heard about the collection, and now we can say that we have seen it. We learned a lot, and met some interesting people along the way. Many thanks to Jack and Drena Miller and their family for hosting the event, and thanks also to Rick for making the arrangements.

5 ANTIQUE AUTO CLUB OF AMERICA WEST GEORGIA REGION MINUTES & TREASURER S REPORT MINUTES FROM MARCH 2, 2017 I. Meeting called to order by President Glenn Novak. Twenty-four people were in attendance counting family members and guests. Glenn wished Barbara Waters, Paul Beggs, Gary Moyses and Ellen Ferris, our March Birthday people, a Happy Birthday. The club welcomed Ellen as a new and official member of both the AACA National and our West Ga. Region. II. Minutes from the February 2, 2017 meeting were approved. III. Treasurer Gary Moyses reported a balance of $ IV. Old Business A. Liz will enter our club newsletter, The Greasy Rag, into official competition at the AACA National level as they are now accepting entries electronically for periodic evaluation. Glenn passed around a certificate from AACA which he received recently in recognition of our club s outstanding website. B. Our region has submitted all of the paperwork to the national by the March 1 deadline, including officer report and membership roster. We have 20 members in our region. C. Bell Chevrolet Car Show 1. Liz passed out flyers for our car show on June 10th for members to take and pass around at upcoming events and to give to trophy sponsors. Trophy sponsorships will again be $30 this year. 2. Rick reported that Zack Bell was not interested in relocating the show to the north side of the property to an area with access only off of route 27 and with little shade. Zack liked the idea of a special display of award-winning vehicles but it may not be up front under the main overhang. 3. We will move our food vendors up front near the main tent area. 4. We will have a special class of awards for those wishing to bring and display hand-assembled plastic car models, free entry, 14 and under. We will add this element to the next version of our show flyer. 5. Phillip will work with Bob Uglum to come up with motorcycle classes for our show this year. Discussion by members included classes such as Antique and Modern, Best of Show, and Best Custom. Phillip will use his knowledge of bikes to help judge. V. New Business A. Rick gave details about the meeting time and place for our tour to see the car collection of Jack and Drena Miller in Fayetteville on March 4th. B. Glenn reported that he received a phone call from Amanda Pollard of Cottage Landing requesting old cars and trucks to come to their show at 3 pm on June 15th. She agreed to sponsor a trophy for our show. C. Club members looked at their calendars and agreed to host the annual Tri-Club picnic on Saturday, November 4th. The Duncans will see if their church fellowship hall is available and we could finalize plans and let the other clubs know. D.
