1 June, 2007 Sedona Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America Tire Tracks THE VOICE OF THE SEDONA CAR CLUB PUTTING DEAD TREES TO GOOD USE President s Vehicle Well, here we are at June...already. The year is passing by...no, I m not going to say quickly; that s too trite. It is going by at just the right rate- fast enough that we don t get bored on the occasional dull days, and slow enough to get full enjoyment out of all of the others. Your Club Officers have now fulfilled nearly half of their term. They have all been busy and I m sure have found their jobs rewarding. Larry Currie, Treasurer, has recently been working on what I feel is one of our Club s finest endeavors, our charitable donation to local organizations. For newer members who might be unaware, our club donates several thousand dollars (almost $5,000 last year) to local organizations such as Sedona Library, Sedona Food Bank, Boys and...each of your officers works to make SCC the great club that it is. Girls Club, etc. I am very proud to be a member of a club that does such good work. Greg Zucco, Editor, has recently been working with Larry, to establish a more precise formula for our donations so that we can continue to donate perpetually. And, we must not forget to thank Greg for the outstanding job he does on Tire Tracks each month. Also, Greg set up our club website and is our webmaster. Gail and Clyde Bangiola are doing a wonderful job of keeping our club active, planning our tours and events for us. Sharon Blankenship has put in many hours to arrange for guest speakers at our monthly meetings who will be informative and interesting to our varied membership. John Gain, Historian, is doing an outstanding job of maintaining a historical record of our activities. Be sure to check out his scrapbook of our activities at each general meeting. Thanks also to Co-Secretaries, Stephanie Giesbrecht and Rachel Lombardi, for taking copious notes and providing accurate records of our meetings. I personally want to thank Scot Mangarpan, 1st Vice President, for taking over for me on the occasions when I have had to miss a meeting. Lastly, I want to thank Bill Harrison, 2nd Vice President. Bill is one of the longest term members on the Board and provides a lot of insightful input on the management of our club. In addition to their specific duties, each of your club officers works as part of our team to help make Sedona Car Club the great club that it is. As I mentioned in my opening remarks, though, the year is passing by. Before you know it, it will be time to elect new officers. It s not too early for you to consider becoming part of the e-board team. Each position is a rewarding, enjoyable job. Which is your niche? David Lombardi, President Volume 2 5 Number 6

Both are automotive engineers extraordinaire. See them for any mechanical problem. We are fortunate to have such experience and talent in Sedona. 4 Brit Owners Picnic Hearty Teetotalers Missing in Action Ed and Alva Pittman once again out did themselves in the process of hosting this year s British Car Owners Picnic. Despite being overwhelmed by Jaguars, (they provide good story material) Healeys were also well represented. From buffalo burgers to Lombardi s homemade salsa there seemed to be enough to eat. And it was basically a free car show for all those coming and going in Red Rock State Park. Thanks again to Ed and Alva for organizing this wonderful event. Get a British car and join us!! Page 4

Moss In Motion Al Moss Patrols Local Jag Events Dateline - May 22 Today, Larry and I drove up to Flagstaff to see some of the 65 Jaguars which came

5 Moss In Motion Al Moss Patrols Local Jag Events Dateline - May 22 Today, Larry and I drove up to Flagstaff to see some of the 65 Jaguars which came from Holland by container to New York and are driving across country on Route 66. Today they went to Grand Canyon and tomorrow from Flag thru Kingman to Oatman, Vegas, Palm Springs to LA and finally to Long Beach and back to Holland. Last month there were 10 C- and D-Type Jaguars on tour and they stayed overnight at Red's. Hence the two pics. The last one is of Steve and Debbie Earle. They put on the Monterey Historics, etc and were driving their C-Type. BABES IN CANYONLAND Trading biker boots for hiker boots Stephanie and an intrepid girlfriend take to a day hike in the Grand Canyon. What were they thinking? 4.5 miles down the South Kaibab, 4.5 miles on the Tonto trail West which is not more than a goat track with some balance beam walking along the rim of canyons with no visible bottom, and 4.5 miles straight up the Bright Angel trail 9.5 hours later these two middleaged women literally stagger over the finish line. It was worth every agonizing minute. There is good reason The Grand Canyon is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. Page 5

6 Mother s Day Brunch Was BIG!! Club s Collective Waistline Loses Ground to Feast Clyde and Gail Bangiola hit a home run on Mother s Day by ensuring a special buffet was available to the Car Club at Verde Valley Golf Club. Of course many of the attendees felt compelled to try a little (or a lot) of everything on it. For most of us, it should hold us over till the next club picnic at the Community Center. This club really knows how to eat off of a buffet. Photos - Above, during a lull in the eating action, one can see there was plenty of fuel available to those with courage. 7 Niederkorn Released!! Previously in Tire Tracks.. After being pinched at the Cottonwood Village Assisted Living facility Car Show, and held there for his own protection (thanks to an anonymous caring club member), Lee Niederkorn was released at the behest of his wife, Bev. She convinced authorities at the Village that when he was apprehended there, he had just gotten back from the Mid-East and was still a bit disoriented. She brought the pictures we see on this page as proof. Pictures - Here is Lee s Healey surrounded by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan s (former president United Arab Emirates) Rolls Royces and BMWs. Out of the picture is the trailer Lee used to get his Healey to the photo op. The oil that was left behind under the Healey was of no consequence to the people who invented oil. In fact they considered it an opportunity for degenerate materialistic Americans to give something back. Lee was not allowed to get his Healey near the other car, a silver Audi A8. Officials were concerned that British and German would not go together well. That, plus the guy in the white uniform reminded Lee too much of Cottonwood Village.
