The program commenced in 1981 and Tony joined in 1982 when the code was known as the VFA. He stayed with the program (and the station changes, 3LO/3AW) until In 1996, Tony commenced calling the AFL (with David Hookes) and was the co-match day caller on Sundays with Rex Hunt. Tony also fills-in for the Breakfast team and reviews pubs for Neil Mitchell on Fridays. Davinder Sidhu, Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar addressed the club briefly. Davinder is a delightful young lady of Indian descent who hails from Yuba City in Central California, an area famous for its peach orchards and sunflower farms. Davinder s father is a Sikh and chose migrate to this part of California because it has a large concentration of Sikh people who originate from the Indian state of Punjab. He and his family did so, from London, where Davinder was educated. Davinder is in Melbourne for a 2-year term and is majoring in Developmental Studies at the University of Melbourne. 2009/10 COMMITTEE MEETINGS Fellowship: 1 st Wed International: 2 nd Tues Community: 2nd Wed Youth/Voc: 1 st Mon

8 Club History Our 75 th Celebratory Year The following is an article taken from The official history from as edited by Steve Chandler Over the ensuing weeks all Rotarians of the club will be receiving a copy of the complete document for their personal records. In CONTACT we will each week include a section of document for your reading Whilst the initial meetings to form the Rotary Club of Essendon were at Edenhope receptions, the charter was at the Essendon Town hall and the newly formed club continued to meet there until 1939, when it returned to Edenhope. Luncheons at the Town Hall were provided by Alex Russell at 2 /- per head. In the early years, functions in the form of Smoke Nights were held at the Northern Golf Club in Glenroy, at the Moonee Ponds Town Hall, at the Drill Hall and at Ascot House. In 1939 charter night was changed from a Smoke Night to a ladies Night. During the early years of the Rotary Club of Essendon, a number a gifts were presented to the club. Brian O Callaghan presented the club with the presidential chain and jewel, the club cabinet was donated by Des Nunan and a speaker s stand was presented by Alan Showers. Other early activities of the Rotary Club of Essendon were inter club visits with members visiting the Rotary Clubs of Melbourne, Warragul, Colac, Castlemaine and Ballarat. The board decided to award a prize of 1 pound 1 shilling to the best mixer in the club. In December 1939, members and ladies were entertained by the Viennese Boys Choir at a luncheon President: Bill Reid President: Cr Phillip (Mel) Salmon President: Nelson Wellington President: Alan Showers President Brian O Callaghan During this period club luncheons moved to Ascot House in Fenton St Ascot Vale. Australia was at war in Europe and so Rotarians and sons of Rotarians were toasted at each meeting and all Rotarians on active service were made temporary honorary members. A Business Advisory Committee was formed to assist the wife s of Rotarians serving overseas in matters of business, law and education as well as assisting them in digging Air Raid shelters. This service was later extended to all dependants of servicemen in the local area. American & Allied Servicemen were invited to luncheons and a suggestion was put forward by Rotarian Len Moncur to send vocal messages overseas by cheaply prepared gramophone records. The Annual Rotary Ball, which raised close to 250 pounds each year, was abandoned in 1942 due to the war.

A square manhole cover can fall into the hole on the diagonal; a round manhole cover cannot be dropped into the hole. 2. Push the cork into the bottle and shake the coin out. 3. Almost all of it. First tie the ropes together at the ends. then climb one of the ropes. Tie a loop in the rope as close to the ceiling as possible. Hang from the loop, then cut the rope just below it (but don't drop it, or you'll be stuck on the ceiling). Run the rope through the loop and tie it to your waist. Swing over to the other rope and pull the rope that's going through the loop tight. Cut the other rope as close as possible to the ceiling, holding tight to the end of it. Once the rope is loose, you will swing down below the loop. Let yourself down to the ground by letting the rope out. At the bottom, untie yourself and pull the rope completely through the loop. At this point you'll have all of the rope except what was used to tie the loop.
