It is always wonderful to be reminded of how important the Rotary Club of Essendon history is and what a successful Club this has been and continues to be. DG Peter talked to the Club about building on the Club s Membership for today and for the future. We need to engage people and offer people the flexibility that they require to be able to be a Rotarian. Being a Rotarian today is very different to the days of meeting every week and also needing to achieve 100% attendance. The world has changed in so many ways in how people connect and go about their everyday lives. The world has become busier in many ways however the importance of an organisation such as Rotary is just as significant. Peter also talked about no matter where a person is in the World, Rotary will be there also. Whether it is connecting for fellowship or project work, tell your friends and business colleagues that Rotary are there to assist. Foundation should also play a very important part of every Club. We all should be very proud of everything Foundation has achieved and will achieve into the future. With very small over-heads, it is one of the very best ways of getting money to projects both locally and globally. Todays is the 5th Annual WORLD POLIO DAY, co-hosted by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. What a partnership! This incredible project would not happen without Rotary Foundation. You can even join 50,000 viewers from around the World to watch today the live stream from Gates Foundation headquarters in Seattle to hear global health experts & celebrities share about the progress of polio eradication. Yes Rotarians you are all part of making this difference to the world!! Enjoy your week. Just remember Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the "present. 1

The Sergeant session was the inaugural granting of the lady bird awards, a tradition for when the Rotary Club of Essendon delegations travel overseas. Each time the delegates meet, the ladybird can be awarded by the current recipient to the next recipient. The inaugural recipients are:- Shirley Kukk for organising early morning breakfast packs for pre 6am starts. King ( councillor ) Richard Lawrence for kissing the ground upon getting out of an helicopter. Majella Portelli for being the sacrificial child of the delegation.
