Michael Cariss as MC opened the batting as usual and was ably assisted by President Jenny and John Knee as Santa. Santa s deputy in training was none other than John Odgers who did a fine job dancing with Santa to Abba s song Ring Ring a threat he promised never to do whilst in Peru! Well done Santa for getting him up and Jenny for putting them both up to it. The venue and food were excellent and our immediate thanks go out to Denise Edwards, Aleen Mitchel, Gaye Cariss and our very own Jane Carbone for decorating the room and tables. Job very well done. Thanks ladies.

President Jenny then proceeded to give certificates of appreciation to: 1. Maurice Mollica for his tireless efforts writing the history of the club since 1935 in conjunction with Alan Murphy. More particularly, the unbelievable lengths they ve gone to, to extract photos, stories and reports from past presidents, Treasurers, Secretary s and members, some of whom now reside interstate or in country Victoria. 2. Daryl Lee for his support to Jenny and the Club with the Men s Shed, establishment of the inaugural Pride of Workmanship award at the Men s shed and help with Donations in Kind in the medical section. 3. Jane Odgers for her support to Jenny and the Club with Days for Girls and the Art Show and joining all the dots to make the 2018 show even bigger, brighter and more successful than previous events. Special Guests in attendance were: Jan Thomas, Aleen Mitchel, and Anthony & Lillia Taranto whom we hadn t seen in ages. Thanks all for making the Special effort. Much appreciated. Veronica O Sullivan advised that the original destination of the donated toys for the Asylum Seekers (who had been inundated with gifts), and so the toys destination was changed to the McAuley Community Services for Women and Children, supporting women and children escaping family violence where Cathy Nicou works. Raffle A raffle with 12 prizes was conducted by Michael Cariss and Maria Koupus with Peter & Leigh Baker drawing two of them.

Pride of Workmanship Men s Shed It is with great pride and pleasure that the Rotary Club of Essendon today honours one of the Sheddies with the inaugural Pride of Workmanship award. The recipient has been voted by you, his peers, as one who sets a high standard of quality, workmanship and general good demeanour around the Shed and one who The Sheddies are most happy to work with. This person reflects the following qualities: a. Is always there to help when necessary. b. Leaps into major projects like there not there no big deal and this is ultimately reflected in the quality of the end product produced. c. Drops whatever he is doing to help others. d. Shows patience and diligence when guiding others in the use of potentially hazardous equipment. e. Guides fellow Sheddies with his knowledge in how to achieve a particular or better outcome. f. Has been with the shed since day one. g. When there s a job to be done always sticks his hand up first to chip in. h. Actively promotes the shed both within the shed and more generally to the community at large. So it gives me great pleasure to announce that Steve Holman is the inaugural, Pride of Workmanship awardee. Congratulations Steve. Job well done. As an aside, it is being proposed that this become an annual award shared by each of the three Rotary Clubs represented in the shed, and that The Shed make an honour shield, reflecting the yearly recipients. And Steve, yours will be the first name to go on it. 95 th Birthday celebrations for Clem - Above

Message of appreciation to Lino from Maurice Last Tuesday when I was getting the honour boards out I wanted to get rid of the original honour board listing the presidents from 1935 to Just as well I did not. Lino Auro-Farulla saw it and said he could fix it even though I did not think it possible. I saw the board today and a miracle as happened! WELL DONE LINO: IT LOOKS BRAND NEW, GREAT WORK, I am sure the President and members will be very happy with the job you have done. 8 The Rotary Club of Essendon Golf Day was heaps of fun and a great opportunity to take some time out, test our Golf skills and have a yarn. Such a day would not be a success without our wonderful Sponsors, the team at Medway Golf Club and the Players. Competition was very close with 5 teams separated by less than 2 stokes at the end of the day. However the outstanding team of the day was the young guns and entrepreneurs team of Alex Nicou, Samuel Schepis and friends, who won the event plus the Customized Driver and Putter supplied by Taylor Made for the longest driver and closest to the Pin. And the most impressive golfer of the day to Andrew Gardiner for sinking a 5 meter put in front of the clubhouse on the 18 th hole. Andrew got to wear the pink Jacket supplied by Travellers Apparel which was promptly modelled by Rotarian Grant Stephenson.

23 25 MARCH 2018 SPONSORS CAN YOU HELP? The Art Show committee has decided that for the 2018 show 5 prizes will be awarded. These will be the previous four awards, best in Show, Best Oil / Acrylic, Best Watercolour, Best Pastel or Drawing, and a new Best Youth Artist (under 25) award to encourage local young artists to enter, and to bring their families along to the Art Show. We would love to increase the value of our 5 prizes. This will help attract new entrants, continue to improve the quality of the art for sale, and bring more people through the gate. To do this the committee is currently focused on increasing the number of sponsors. We are particularly keen to increase monetary sponsors, rather than in-kind. If you or anyone you know might be a potential sponsor, the Art Show committee members would love to hear from you. FACEBOOK We have also recently commenced a facebook campaign. At the moment there are occasional posts, but in January these will become much more frequent. If you use Facebook we would appreciate if could you please search for the Moonee Valley Art Show (MVAS) Facebook page, and like and share any posts you see. The more we can market the Art Show, the more attendance we will get, and the more money we will raise for our projects. VOLUNTEERS Later on we will also be looking for volunteers to help out at the Show. So please have a think about how you might be able to contribute some of your time. FUNDS As per last year, funds raised from the Art Show will be allocated to the club's general projects fund for the Board to use as it sees fit. So please get behind this major local community event. QUESTIONS? Don't hesitate to ask Veronica O'Sullivan, Steve Chandler or Grant Sheldon.

Help yourself and help the Club by banking with Strathmore Community Bank. For example, take out a home loan and the club will receive up to $500. Take out a 3 month fixed term deposit and the club will receive up to $50.
