2 CONTACT Fellowship To be sure to be sure to be sure Last Friday night a brave band of Rotarians, partners and guests attended a dinner at Veronica O Sullivans Sibeen Hotel in the heart of Essendon. Ok, Ok we mist the actual St.Patrick s Day by a few days, but hey this is to celebrate the Irish! With Martin Kelly and irish dancers in full flight it was not long before the guiness kicked in and most all of us started to kick up our heels. TOP TEN IRISH SAYINGS: 1. Ireland Forever Éirinn go Brách 2. No matter how long the day, the evening will come. Dá fhaid é an lá tiocfaidh an tráthnóna 3. Health Sláinte 4. If you lie down with dogs, you'll rise with fleas An té a luíonn le gagharaibh éireoidh le dearnaithibh 5. Two people shorten the road Giorraíonn beirt bóthar 6. A good word never broke a tooth. Níor bhris focal maith fiacal riamh 7. There is no old stocking that doesn't find an old boot. Níl aon sean stoca nach bhfaigheann sean bhróg 8. It isn't a trout until it's on the bank. Ní breac é go mbíonn sé ar an bport 9. Little pigs have big ears. Tá cluasa fada ar mhuca beaga 10. It is a wedge of itself that splits the oak. Is í ding di féin a scoileann an dair A good old Irish Joke O'Brian was overcome by the beauty and in the true Irish spirit of his friend's request, he asked, "Aye, tis a fine thing you ask of me, and I will pour the whiskey. But, might I strain it through me kidneys first?" Three guys, one Irish, one English, and one Scottish, are out walking along the beach together one day. They come across a lantern and a Genie pops out of it. "I will give you each one wish, that's three wishes in total", says the Genie. The Scottish guy says, "I am a fisherman, my Dad's a fisherman, his Dad was a fisherman and my son will be one too. I want all the oceans full of fish for all eternity." So, with a blink of the Genie's eye FOOM! the oceans were teaming with fish. The Englishman was amazed, so he said, "I want a wall around England, protecting her, so that no one will get in for all eternity." Again, with a blink of the Genie's eye POOF! there was a huge wall around England. The Irishman asks, "I'm very curious. Please tell me more about this wall." The Genie explains, "well, it's about 150 feet high, 50 feet thick, protecting England so that nothing can get in or out." The Irishman says, "Fill it up with water." Page 2.

7 CONTA C T Social Corner Calendar of Events Today s Meeting Jean McDonald Vocational Talk Did you hear about... Jean was born in Biloela Queensland and grew up in Yeppoon near Rockhampton. She joined the Army Reserve and became a corporal, and met Jason who was an Army Officer. Together they spent time in Townsville and Darwin, where Jason was posted in the Army. Jean finished a degree in Darwin, before they married and took a posting in Melbourne. Extended stays in Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney (where their two sons were born) followed, before an eventual return to Melbourne. Jean has enjoyed a wonderfully varied career, with administration her special skill she has worked in fields as diverse as the Arts and Alcohol!! In between there was a 6- month stay in Osaka Japan, where she taught English. These days Jean and Jason own (and Jean operates) Bushwackers Camping store in North Essendon. Jason has a civilian career with Toll. Jean talked about the rigours of owning a small, independent business in a world filled with massive chain stores, and the huge buying/marketing advantages they enjoy. Jason has been relocated to Singapore with his work, and shortly Jean and the boys will join him however we are confident she will become a very effective remote member and we will enjoy seeing her at the club on her regular visits home to check on the shop. One of the Rotary Clubs in Singapore will enjoy her hands on work, and the make ups will keep her membership with us secure.
