In the coming weeks, our weekly program will see speakers from some of the organisations our committees have decided to support.

Nine projects were selected (out of a total of 16 applications) with the total being distributed totalling just under $15,000. Likewise, the International Committee have finalised their projects.

Our major projects for the year, Alkira and the Proactive Policing vehicle are also in the process of being finalised for the year.

In the coming weeks, our weekly program will see speakers from some of the organisations our committees have decided to support. The Community Services Committee has prioritised the projects that were submitted via the Community Grants program. Nine projects were selected (out of a total of 16 applications) with the total being distributed totalling just under $15,000. Likewise, the International Committee have finalised their projects. Eleven organisations have been chosen this year with the total being $9,800. Our major projects for the year, Alkira and the Proactive Policing vehicle are also in the process of being finalised for the year. I represented the club at the second Alkira Foundation dinner where on behalf of the club I presented former Alkira Board Chair, June Charlesworth with the first of three $15,000 cheques. We are told that the building works in the area designated for the Independent Living Kitchen has commenced. At a club meeting before the end of June we plan to have Alkira visit the club to give an update. When fully completed, our club has been invited to attend Alkira for a club meeting. With regard to the Proactive Policing vehicle project, thanks to David D Silva, Budget Rent-a -Car has ordered the Nissan Pulsar which will be the replacement for the initial vehicle supplied 4 years ago. This project is co-funded with the Rotary Club of M.A.S.H. On June 2, the Rotary Club of Forest Hill are organising a presentation day at Hand Brake Turn. The inaugural Rotary Whitehorse Cluster Shield will be presented to the best student from the current class. You will remember we donated $900 towards this worthwhile program earlier this year. Of course, none of the above can take place without the solid effort from club members who are busily raising the funds to support the many great projects we are supporting. The annual Art Show and The Recycled Treasures Op. Shop have both had exceptional years and the proceeds from the Whitehorse Farmers Market have been above expectations as well. 2 Highlights of our Club Meeting, Tue 5th May 2015 Opening: The meeting was called to order by Sergeant Robert Leach followed by the Rotary Invocation and toasts to the Queen and Australia by Simon Wheelton (right). Chairman for the evening was Joe Mardjetko. President Trevor Donegan: Trevor welcomed members, Partners and guests, and Guest Speaker Shane McSweeney. President Trevor advised he attended the Alkira Foundation Dinner and presented our cheque for $15,000, (story page 5). Op Shop Chair, Clem Joyce: Clem advised for the month of April the Op Shop profit was $4,500 which is $1,300 up on April last year and the 10 months YTD profit is $40,000 which is up $4,400 YTD on last year. However the Sergeant hit the right spot with his joke of the week about a house burglar in a dark room who heard the talking parrot saying Jesus is watching you. Not being religious, the burglar was not concerned until the parrot said the family Rotweiller s name is Jesus! The Weekly Raffle Melissa s raffle was won by Charlie s guest, Consul Mei (below left). Sergeants Session, Robert Leach: Robert fined Merv and Sue a receiving badges tax and a significant number of members for their footy team s wins, losses and media stories. Merv was presented with a new Life Member Club Name Badge and certificate by President Trevor Donegan, and his wife Janet with a beautiful sheath of flowers. 5 Stamps & Foreign Coin Collection Used stamps and foreign coins are still raising money for Rotary District projects. Please continue to bring foreign coins to Tuesday Club meetings for the coin jar and tear off stamps with 1cm around them for Madeleine Smith who will bundle them up and send them to the District collection centre. Contact Melissa by joe-melissa@bigpond.com (or ) Alkira Foundation Annual Dinner President Trevor Donegan recently attended the 2nd Annual Alkira Foundation Dinner and presented the first of 3 cheques for $15,000 to recent past Chair of the Alkira Board, June Charlesworth (photo right). This was for our 2 year project to rebuild the Alkira kitchen to the required commercial standard for training Alkira clients. Also present at the dinner was David and Helen D'Silva from our club and the speaker was Lucinda Nolan, Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner, who has a child at Alkira. Also present was Robert Clark (MP) who thought our project was a wonderful idea, especially the employment opportunities it may offer. 5

6 2015 MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) The District 9810 MUNA held over 2 days recently at Victorian Parliament with 40 teams was a great success. Rotary Club Box Hill sponsored 3 teams, 2 from PLC (right) and one from Box Hill Secondary College (left). The 2 PLC teams (with DGE David Tolstrup and PLC Dept. Head, Suzan Knopfelmacher), represented Venezuela and Sweden Sunday 17th May 2015 at Parkdale Secondary College, Mordialloc. (No cost, lunch provided). For all Rotarians with an interest in furthering their involvement in our programs and projects but attendance is essential for:- Lyndon Smith, Rae Harding, Tim Lynn, Timothy Winter, Directors and Club Committee Chairs.
