Brandon, VT Brandon is a study in early American architecture and Vermont history. When the first settlers came to the area in the mid-1770s, they established the village of Neshobe. The area was rich in natural resources with excellent farmland along the rivers and abundant supplies of timber and minerals. The town flourished during the 1800s with several industries relying on the key resources of waterpower, iron ore and marble. The coming of the railroad in 1849 enabled the manufacture and shipping of iron-based products such as the Howe scale, as well as Brandon paints, wood products and marble. The historic Crown Point military road came through Brandon to connect Lake Champlain to the Atlantic coast. In the ensuing decades, government and individuals developed commercial streets at the core which radiated out from the greens lined with residences leading to farms, mines and quarries in the town. Pearl and Park streets were laid out to be suitable for militia training, resulting in broad, treeshaded streets with deep front yards. Logan International Airport: 3 Hours, 11 Minutes Boston Logan International Airport is New England s largest transportation center and generates $7 billion in economic activity each year. It is a city within a city on a 1,700 acre footprint of land. Nearby State Parks & Forests Green Mountain National Forest The property is roughly 4 miles west of the Green Mountain National Forest, offering convenient access to hundreds of thousands of acres. Known for its rustic feel, hillside campsites that give way to dramatic mountain views, and authentic character, Coolidge State Park is the developed recreation centerpiece of the 21,500 acre Calvin Coolidge State Forest, the largest state -owned land holding in central Vermont. Coolidge State Park is the only Vermont park with an entire loop of lean-to campsites, some of which have sweeping views of the Black River valley and the Green Mountains. 18 Area Information Page 2 Rivers and Lakes Chittenden Reservoir Chittenden is a 721-acre reservoir with an elevation of about 1495 feet with some spots up to feet deep. The water elevation fluctuates depending on the season and power generation needs. On the southern end of Chittenden Reservoir is Lefferts Pond, which is a 49-acre impoundment with a large wetland area. Lefferts Pond is a shallow pond of only feet. Lake Bomoseen Lake Bomoseen is the largest lake that lies entirely within the state's boundaries, with a surface area of approximately 2,400 acres. The lake was formed by glaciation and has an average and maximum depth of 27 ft and 65 ft, respectively. A portion of the lake's shoreline is contained within Bomoseen State Park. Most of the remaining area around the lake is privately owned. The lake has such recreational accommodations as a public beach, marinas, and public boat launches, in addition to the state park. There are approximately 1,000 residences around the lake, as well as restaurants and other commercial facilities. Lake Dunmore Lake Dunmore is 985 acres with a maximum depth of 105 feet. Fish for species like Rainbow and Lake Trout, Landlocked Atlantic Salmon, Yellow Perch, Northern Pike, Large and Smallmouth Bass, Bullhead, Panfish, and Black Crappie. Skiing, Snowmobiling, Snowshoeing VAST Trails Corridor 7F1 can be accessed behind McDonald s on VT-7 roughly 1 mile from the property. Check VAST website for more information. Killington 44 Minutes - Killington Resort is a four season destination that sits on 3,000 acres in the heart of the Green Mountains in Central Vermont.
