The path climbs from 104 metres to 1085 metres and will take approximately 3 hours with breathtaking views all the way. The descent will take about 1-2 hours. The other five paths promoted by the National Park Authority on Snowdon are: Miners Track; Pyg Track; Rhyd Ddu Path; Snowdon Ranger/Llyn Cwellyn; Watkin Path. For more information please visit: The Snowdonia National Park One of Britain s Breathing Spaces Snowdonia, a stunningly beautiful and mountainous land, carved by glaciers and bathed in mystery, unsurprisingly became Wales first national park and the second biggest in England and Wales covering over 840 square miles. The new 8.3m visitors' centre Hafod Eryri on the summit of Snowdon, Wales' highest mountain, will be officially open in Spring The centre will replace the old demolished mountain cafe which provided a welcomed rest bite for Snowdon s mountaineers since it was designed in 1953 by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, the founder of the Italianate village of Portmeirion. Eryri in English means Snowdonia but there is no translation for Hafod, an old Welsh term for residence on high land. The new centre will have numerous facilities giving visitors the chance to learn more about Wales' highest mountain and its environment. It will also provide weather information, advice on routes as well as refreshments and shelter. For further infromation visit Whatever the weather Stunning castles and historic houses give an insight into the area s history. Castles such as Caernarfon, Conwy and Harlech are World Heritage Sites and the area also boasts seven National Trust properties such as Penrhyn Castle, Bangor. The splendid garden of Bodnant in the Vale of Conwy, voted National Trust Garden of the Year 2002 and the Italianate village of Portmeirion, are also popular attractions. Museums with appeal for the whole family include those specialising in the slate industry whilst various disused mines provide memorable underground experiences. There are also railway and motor museums as well as museums depicting community life. Most of the area s numerous narrow gauge railways were originally built to carry slate but today provide a means for visitors to enjoy the stunning scenery. The Welsh Highland Railway from Caernarfon is Britain s longest heritage railway but possibly best known is the Snowdon Mountain Railway. The many fun attractions for children include indoor play centres and activity centres, waterworlds, various forest and country parks, butterfly farms, farm parks as well as activities such as quad biking, gokarting and skiing.
