3 1 ASSOCIATION of TRAIN OPERATING COMPANIES DISCONT FARES FOR DISABLED PEOPLE WHO DO NOT HAVE A DISABLED PERSONS RAILCARD Please remember the following discounts are available for disabled people who do not hold a Disabled Persons Railcard: People who have to stay in their own wheelchair for the journey When a person travels in their own wheelchair and does not have a Railcard they are entitled to the following discounts. The same discount applies to one companion. Ticket type Discount First Class or Standard Open Single 34% First Class or Standard Day Single 34% First Class or Standard Day Return 50% First Class or Standard Open Return 34% Discount code 0001 should be used when issuing the tickets. Disabled children aged between 5 and under 16 travelling in wheelchairs are allowed 75% discount off the above ticket types. If they have an adult companion, then this person is allowed the discounts shown above. People registered as visually impaired When a person registered as visually impaired travels with another person and does not have a Railcard, the discounts shown above apply for both passengers. To qualify for these discounts the visually impaired person must present a document confirming their disability when purchasing tickets and should show the document with the discounted tickets when asked by ticket examining staff. The document confirming disability should be issued by a recognised institution e.g. Local Authority Social Services, Royal National Institute for the Blind or St Dunstans. The blind or visually impaired person does not qualify for a discount if travelling alone. If a blind or partially sighted child travels with an adult companion, the child is charged the normal child fare and the companion is eligible for the above discounts. Blind and partially sighted persons can be issued with one adult season ticket to cover two people (two travelling for the price of one). Where the blind or partially sighted person is a child and the companion is an adult, the price for one adult is charged. In Scotland, holders of Local Authority Cards issued to Blind Persons travel free of charge between all stations in Scotland and as far as Carlisle and Berwick upon Tweed by all operators. Please also note the following general comments in respect of persons who are visually impaired and wheelchair users: 1. Whilst advance booking is not essential, every effort should be made to encourage persons with disabilities to book in advance. 2. As a minimum give the person the telephone number of your Train Company's Disabled Assistance Helpline. 3. The disabled person does not need to hold a Railcard to obtain the above discounts. 4. In some cases cheaper public tickets may be available e.g. Advance Purchase tickets. Care needs to be taken to ensure that customers understand why they are not being offered the discounted fares above. ATOC Retail Support 3
4 * 2 ASSOCIATION of TRAIN OPERATING COMPANIES REDCED RATE SEASON TICKET FOR TOC NEW ENTRANTS Agreement has been reached between a majority of TOCs to continue for a further year the arrangement which will permit TOC New Entrants (i.e. those who have entered the service since 31 March, 1996) to purchase reduced rate season tickets for residential or leisure use on the services of other than their employing TOC. The only TOC not participating in this arrangement is First ScotRail. Also no availability on London nderground services is allowed. This means that if any reduced rate season ticket is issued to an eligible TOC New Entrant over a route where First ScotRail or London nderground also operates a service, the holder must be reminded that they must not use those services. Due to their non-participation, the arrangement is not open to TOC New Entrants employed by First ScotRail. It should be noted that approval of this arrangement has been given only until 30 June, For this reason reduced rate season tickets with validity after that date will not be issued. Reduced rate season tickets may also be purchased for dependants of TOC New Entrants but these must not be used for commuting to work. They may, however, be used for travel to and from an educational establishment. A redesigned form has been introduced which TOC New Entrants wishing to purchase a reduced rate season ticket after 1 July must complete. The form, RSTL87151 (revised 1/7/05), can be downloaded from or can be obtained from travel facilities issue point. This is the only such form which can be accepted for season tickets which run from 1 July. Existing forms (i.e. marked 'revised 1/1/05') can be used up to that date. When Ticket Office staff receive one of these application forms they should deal with the request as follows: 1. Check the eligibility of the applicant by ensuring it is not from a TOC New Entrant employed by First ScotRail. If it is or the employing company is not shown the application should be rejected. 2. The price of the Reduced Rate Season Ticket issued should be calculated at a quarter of the public rate - the deductible amounts which apply to safeguarded staff DO NOT apply. 3. The minimum validity of these Reduced Rate Season Tickets is one month and no validity after 30 June, 2006 is to be allowed. 4. In the 'Photocard No.' field, insert before the applicant's photocard number the initials TOCNE. This will alert Revenue Protection staff of First ScotRail that the ticket is one they should reject. 5 3 ASSOCIATION of TRAIN OPERATING COMPANIES THREE PEAKS CHALLENGE 23 TO 25 JNE 2005 On Thursday 23 June, 200 people representing rail companies from all over the K will set off on a special train from London Euston to compete in a Three Peaks race by rail challenge. The event has been organised by the Railway Children, a charity that helps runaway and abandoned children living on or around the world's railway stations. Participants in the challenge will walk or run up the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in around 48 hours, with special trains connecting the three peaks. A Standard Class commemorative all stations pass, valid from 23 to 26 June 2005 (inclusive) has been produced free of charge by BemroseBooth for the event (see specimen below). Each pass issued will carry the participant s name and participants are expected to verify their identity if requested by revenue protection staff. The pass provides rail travel: to London on Thursday 23 June 2005; from North Wales, the Lake District or the Scottish Highlands to the participant s home, if he or she drops out or misses the organised train between peaks, and from London to the participant s home on Saturday 25 June 2005 or Sunday 26 June SPECIMEN Rail Settlement Plan Newsrail Express for train company National Rail information over 8,000 copies printed fortnightly 3,000 stations, travel agents and call centres receive Newsrail Express Estimated readership of 15,000 retail staff 5

Trainline and Internet Retailing Please note that tickets issued via Trainline currently include a quirk that all station and on train staff should be aware of. The ticket will state that all members of a group are adults, even in situations where the customer has stated explicitly that the members are children. The only way to tell the true make up of the group will be the description on the ticket, which includes the number of adults and children. Examples of the ticket types as they will be printed are shown within the Tribute Issuing Instructions below.
