CARRIED c) DOC Age Friendly Committee (S. Neufeld) Next Meeting January 20 th, 2016 S. Neufeld attended the January 20 th, 2016 meeting at the Dutch Lake Community Centre. She provided a review of the items covered at the meeting: o Seniors Mobility, o Campus of Care, o the District of Clearwater applying for a sustainable neighbourhood grant, o Seniors advocate, o Students helping seniors with technology, o Alzheimer s presentation, o Safety in the home, o Emergency packages. o As of March 11, 2016 the Seniors Society will be taking over the phone tree. d) DOC Forestry Working Group (M. Miller) Nothing to report. e) Invest Thompson-Nicola Website Analytics Information from the Invest Thompson Nicola website for the period of November 25, 2015 to December 24, 2015 was provided to Committee members for information. f) Director s Update Director Schaffer updated the Committee on activities concerning area A residents. All Committee appointments have been approved. Merritt will be meeting with VSA to discuss highway maintenance. Director Schaffer reports that Spences Bridge now has cell service. g) Members Updates ii. i. R. Graffunder Vavenby hall will be hosting a Valentine s breakfast. Cost will be $8 per person. B. Ludtke District of Clearwater road name signage is lacking. Services Coordinator will ask B. Forsyth, DOC Public Works Superintendent, about the walkway on the blue bridge and road signage on Dunn Lake Road. Brushing appears incomplete along Dunn Lake Road. iii. M. Miller Train whistle still under review for Birch Island. iv. S. Neufeld Thank you to Director Schaffer for all that she has done with the Upper Clearwater delegations. The school house floor will be installed soon. Valentine s Day events will be held at the school house and the hall. Boundary road does not get plowed on weekends. 6 Wells Gray Country Services Committee Pg. 4 January 27, 2016 v. M. Savage Overhanging trees on old highway east side 200 metres from Philips Road and south of Blackwater Road on the main highway (these have been marked with tape). A training session was held with the Blackpool Fire Department, put on by Kinder Morgan re: pipeline rupture. Was well attended with representatives from Little Fort to Vavenby fire halls. Highway Rescue and Clearwater Fire will be holding a joint practice Thursday January 28, Ministry of Forests building has 6 agencies working from their building updated floor plans have been provided to the Blackpool Fire Dept. vi. H. Wadlegger Committee was well represented at the bonspiel. It was lots of fun. Thank you to Wells Gray Country Services Committee for funding lots of decorations at the event. 16 teams participated. Rotary had guest Hilary Barnett, Area Manager for Ministry of Transportation, speak to the group. She answered many questions about the future of Highway 5. Heather Adams addressed Rotary about the splash park. It is to be completed by the end of the year and will include a washroom facility. The Rotary ice fishing derby is being held Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 9:00 AM until noon at Dutch Lake. The outdoor club is hosting the Birch Leg event on February 6, h) Services Coordinator Report Services Coordinator answered questions with respect to her report. It was noted that the Vavenby Community Hall tables will be arriving on Friday, January 29, Moved by M. Miller Seconded by M. NEW BUSINESS Meeting dates for February 17, 2016 and September 21, 2016 will need to be changed. BC Parks Trail updates are being posted on BC Parks sites and being circulated on websites and social media. II. WG Country Services Committee Birchleg is taking place. III. District of Clearwater Joint Services Committee met to discuss MRDT application Community to Community forum resolution to meet with MLA Terry Lakes about GeoParks support. World Hockey Russian Women s team to stay and practice in Clearwater March IV. Park Use Permit Holders Winter use trail maps has been updated and made available at the entrance to the park. V. Chamber of Commerce Chamber will no longer be staffing the front desk of the Info Centre. 6. OLD BUSINESS a) Promotional Brochure Final cheque has been issued for large lure piece. Once received, files will be released to be posted on the website and distributed. Marketing Manager working with UrbanLife Media to develop the rack card design brochure that can be printed economically. b) Website Marketing/Listing Rates Marketing Manager presented a simplified website listing structure. c) GeoParks Marketing Manager updated Board on the GeoParks presentation made at the Community to Community Forum. Tourism Wells Gray to consider how to take a more leading role in pushing the GeoParks application forward. 7. DELEGATIONS Film maker Ken Matheson presented on his idea for a Canada 150 Fund heritage film project. 8. NEW BUSINESS a) TWG 2016 Budget Marketing Manager presented the draft January-December 2016 TWG budget for consideration and review. WGCSC Feb 24 Agenda Pg.7
10 b) MRDT-Moving Forward Marketing Manager presented suggested timeline and actions for completion of the MRDT application in a timely fashion. c) TWG Canada 150 Fund project Marketing Manager presented the application requirements and process for the Canada 150 Fund application and asked for commemorative event ideas that could take place in Wells Gray/Clearwater. d) Visitor Information Center- Contract for Services Marketing Manager presented summary of conversation with Info Center representative, Tay Briggs regarding the idea of have a central information number and for tourism related inquiries that would be operational throughout the year. e) AGM 2016 April 20 th is in consideration for the 2016 TWG AGM. 9. 13 SERVICE COORDINATOR REPORT TO: Wells Gray Country Services Committee February 18, 2016 FROM: Sherri Madden, Services Coordinator, Electoral Area A & B SUBJECT: TNRD Electoral Area A (Wells Gray Country) VAVENBY WATER The system is functioning well. A number of standpipes require servicing in the spring. CEMETERY Nothing to report. VAVENBY COMMUNITY HALL The 6 new tables have been purchased and delivered to the hall. Request to install some cupboard doors in the kitchen/bar area. Request to have stove serviced and some cleaning utensils purchased. STREETLIGHTS Nothing to report. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Attended the 2016 Edmonton RV Show from Feb th. Promoted Blue River and the North Thompson Valley, utilizing the North Thompson Valley Guide. COMMUNITY PARKS The TNRD has applied for funding under the Co-op Community Spaces program, for the Vavenby Community Park, in the amount of $25,000. If successful, this will help offset the increased cost of playground equipment purchased out of the States. Projects have to be completed after the end of June, with funding announcements expected by the end of June. This will affect the timeline for the completion of the playground project. MISCELLANEOUS Attended the Community to Community Forum in Clearwater surpluses have been finalized. Below is the table summarizing the four services the Committee is responsible for. Under Area A Community Parks, a $153,000 transfer to reserve for the Blackpool Community Park project needs to occur.
