1 DSWD DROMIC Terminal Report on Typhoon KAREN (SARIKA) as of 24 January 2017, 3AM Situational Overview On October 13, 2016, the Low Pressure Area developed into a Tropical Depression KAREN (international name SARIKA) that was estimated based on all available data at 520 km East of Virac, Catanduanes (13.5ºN, 129.0ºE) with maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. At 4PM on October 14, 2016, "KAREN" intensified into a severe tropical storm and threatened Catanduanes Province. The center of the typhoon was estimated based on all available data at 205 km East of Virac, Catanduanes (13.9 N, E) with maximum sustained winds of up to 100 kph and gustiness of up to 140 kph near the center. Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 was raised in all provinces of CALABARZON Region. On October 15, 2016 at 4:00 AM tropical storm, "KAREN" intensified further and continued to threaten the province of Catanduanes as it moved closer towards the area. Pre-emptive evacuations were initiated by the LGUs and they took proactive stance to ensure the safety of the families especially those located in the high risks areas. Prepositioning of relief goods to PSWDOs and the LGUs were also done. Number of Affected Families / Persons To date, there were 73,617 families or 329,468 persons affected in 1,491 barangays in Regions CAR, I, II, III, CALABARZON, and V. 2 Status of Displaced Families / Persons A total of 46,286 families or 207,832 persons were displaced in Regions CAR, I, II, III, CALABARZON, and V; of which, all evacuation centers are already closed while 16 families or 73 persons are still staying with their relatives and friends. FO I SITUATION UPS & ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN 19 October 2016 DSWD-FO I has already submitted their Terminal Report on Typhoon Karen. FO II 18 October 2016 SITUATION UPS & ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN DSWD-FO II continues its monitoring and coordination with affected LGUs on updates and further requests needed for augmentation. 4 FO III SITUATION UPS & ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN 22 January 2017 DSWD-FO III submitted their final terminal report. 18 October 2016 DSWD-FO III continues its monitoring and coordination with affected LGUs on updates and further requests needed for augmentation. CALABARZON SITUATION UPS & ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN 23 January 2017 DSWD-FO CALABARZON submitted their terminal report. DSWD-FO CALABARZON continues its coordination with affected LGUs on updates on the existing ECs and the needs of the affected families. 18 October 2016 Continuous coordination with OCD, PDRMMO/PSWDO of CALABARZON especially in the provinces of Quezon, Rizal and Batangas. FO V 18 October 2016 DReAMB 18 October 2016 SITUATION UPS & ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN The EMT, PATs and MATs are in continuous coordination with the different LGUs in the Region. SITUATION UPS & ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN The DSWD DReAMB Operations Center is closely coordinating with the affected regions for possible Technical Assistance and Resource Augmentation (TARA) needs. The DSWD DReAMB Operations Center is on RED ALERT effective 1200H 15 October The Response Cluster was also activated effective 1500H 15 October The DSWD DReAMB DROMIC and Response unit are activated 24/7 and all QRTs are on standby for possible duty or deployment. The DSWD DReAMB is closely coordinating with NROO for possible logistical support needed. The DSWD DReAMB is continuously coordinating with the NDRRMC-OCD OpCen for updates and other disaster related concerns. --- The Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) of the DSWD continues to closely coordinate with the concerned DSWD-Field Offices for significant report on assistance and relief efforts.
