3 OUR VESSELS, 18 OF WHICH ARE FINNISH-FLAGGED, CARRY THE MAJORITY OF FINLAND S UNITISED, WHEELED IMPORTS AND EXPORTS. A POSITIVE RESULT FOR FINNLINES is good news in particular for Finland. Our vessels, 18 of which are Finnish-flagged, carry the majority of Finland s unitised, wheeled imports and exports. These units contain everything and anything, from vegetables to toys and car parts. If we see volumes grow, trade in Finland and the Baltic region is healthy. Finnlines also employs over 1,600 people. HAVING DONE WELL IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, now is time to invest. To meet demand and even exceed it, we have brought in new capacity and have increased existing capacity via a ship lengthening programme. We recently announced the purchase of the Star class cruise-ferry Europalink from our parent, the Grimaldi Group. She has a capacity of 4,215 lane metres and 554 passengers and will be fitted with exhaust gas scrubbers in mid- March, as is standard for the Finnlines fleet. She will also enjoy a refurbishment, ensuring public areas have a fresh look, before trading on the Malmö Travemünde route under the Swedish flag. INLAND S GROWTH THOSE WHO HAVE READ these Finnlines News editorials in recent years know the healthy margins we now see are in large part the result of a razor-eyed focus on efficiency and efforts to maximise asset use ANNUAL REPORT sees us enter a new phase: we are now growing with the market and for the market. Favourable trading conditions helped push cargo volumes to 709,000 units, up from 629,000 in We shipped 147,000 cars (not including passengers cars) and carried 619,000 passengers: again, comfortably up on the previous year. This had a knock-on effect on revenues for the 12 months, which were up by EUR 58 million (some of which is attributable to bunker surcharges). THE PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED FINNLINES SHIP LENGTHENING PROGRAMME is proceeding to plan. The second vessel in the series, the MS Finnwave, was lengthened by 30 metres, increasing her capacity by another 1,000 lane metres to 4,192 lane metres before she rejoined the Uusikaupunki/Turku Travemünde route. By the end of May, a further two vessels, MS Finnsun and MS Finnsky, will be lengthened. We have an option to lengthen two additional units. Another ship, the Nordolink, is to be given a facelift and renamed Finnswan. FLEET ADDITIONS AND LENGTHENING are set to be complemented by newbuildings, too. We have signed a letter of intent for the construction of ice-class vessels which will be, we believe, the largest ro-ro ever built for the European market. INCREASED CAPACITY, environmental investments, an unending focus on fuel efficiency and a constant desire to improve service standards mean we are well positioned to take advantage of any upswing. This has been a collective effort by employees, who together have helped ensure we maintain the trust of our customers and partners. 3

4 FINNLINES INVESTMENT PROGRAMME IN ACTION FOUR SHIPS 30 METRES LONGER FINNLINES IS HALFWAY IN ITS SHIP LENGTHENING PRO- GRAMME, THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND EMISSION REDUC- TION INVESTMENT PROGRAMME, WHICH IT LAUNCHED IN AS PART OF THE PROGRAMME, FOUR OF ITS BREEZE SERIES VESSELS WILL BE LENGTHENED, WITH AN OPTION OF TWO ADDITIONAL VESSELS. MS Finntide is the first vessel, which was lengthened at Remontowa Shiprepair Yard in Gdansk, Poland. The vessel returned to the normal traffic at the end of November The second vessel is MS Finnwave, which returned to the service at the end of January By the end of May, two more vessels, MS Finnsun and MS Finnsky, will be lengthened. BETTER ENERGY EFFICIENCY Each lengthened vessel will have a significant capacity increase, around 30%. The capacity increase reduces the bunker consumption per transported cargo unit, and thus improves energy efficiency further and contributes more to reduced emissions. The Breeze series vessels will have a capacity of 4,192 lane metres. The 30-metre long centre section increases the vessel capacity by around 1,000 lane metres. IN RESPONSE TO GROWING VOLUMES Finnlines responds to growing demand by increasing cargo and passenger capacity. In addition to the ship lengthening programme, Finnlines has purchased MS Europalink from the Grimaldi Group in January The Star class ro-pax vessel will be fitted with exhaust gas scrubbers in mid-march and her public areas will be refurbished. MS Europalink will start to operate on the Malmö Travemünde route. The new vessel in rotation will also generate changes elsewhere at the end of April, MS Finnswan (former Nordlink) from the Malmö Travemünde route will be redeployed on Naantali Långnäs Kapellskär route. 5 MS Finntide and MS Finnwave have already been operating in their extended length in the Baltic Sea for a while. Tom Pippingsköld, CFO of Finnlines, says that the results have been as planned and as positive as expected. This investment programme is in line with our sustainable development. Some years ago, we launched an investment programme of EUR 100 million to fit vessels with exhaust gas scrubbers. Now we continue with this EUR 70-million investment programme aimed at energy efficiency and emission reduction, Tom Pippingsköld says. We respond to the growing demand by increasing vessels cargo and passenger capacity. This will enable us to serve our customers more efficiently, he continues. Niclas Seligson, Master of MS Finntide, says that after the extension the ship has more waterline and its behaviour is more stable in rough seas. Cargo safety has also improved as the vessel rolls less in heavy weather. Harbour manoeuvres are now a bit slower but not significantly. 6 OUR NEW FAIR CONCEPT WAS A GREAT SUCCESS EVERY YEAR IN JANUARY, THE MATKA NORDIC TRAVEL FAIR IN HELSINKI MARKS THE START OF THE FINNISH TOURISM YEAR. THE LARGEST TRAVEL INDUSTRY EVENT IN NORTHERN EUROPE, WITH 950 EXHIBITORS FROM 85 COUNTRIES, ATTRACTED 63,000 VISI- TORS. FINNLINES PARTICIPATED IN THE MATKA TRAVEL FAIR WITH A BRAND-NEW EXHIBITION CONCEPT. Two blue Finnlines containers, with a new look LUX cabin built into one of them, and the smell of butter popcorns attracted both travel industry professionals and private visitors to Finnlines exhibition stand. Visitors could explore our ro-pax vessel services with the virtual VR headsets and discuss with our travel specialists. Our new fair concept enabled customers to buy Finnlines ferry trips at a special discount price. And it turned out to be a great success our service desks were kept busy throughout the fair weekend, with interested visitors swarming around the stand. AID TO CHILDREN We look to the future, but a brief flashback to the past year was seen, when we donated EUR 50,000 to Aamu Pediatric Cancer Foundation. As part of the Finland 100 programme, Finnlines challenged anybody to participate in our project Together across the Baltic. Our ambitious goal was to collect through physical activity (walking or cycling) as many nautical miles as our ro-pax vessels cover on 70 voyages between Helsinki and Travemünde. In kilometres this means 79,240 km. The project succeeded very well indeed, and the target was even exceeded. The donation ceremony was held at Matka Travel Fair, and Finnlines CFO Tom Pippingsköld was really pleased with the large number of participants in the project consisting of our passengers, customers and employees. Professor Emeritus Toivo T. Salmi from the Aamu Foundation thanked Finnlines warmly for this valuable contribution, which will help the Finnish research group take part in a new worldwide research programme NEARLY 4,000 GIVEAWAY BAGS DISTRIBUTED AT THE FAIR ARE GOING TO BE FOLLOWED AROUND THE WORLD. 6

7 concentrating on development of children s hepatic cancer treatments. You can monitor the progress of the research programme on Finnlines social media channels. FINNLINES BAGS WERE A HIT OF THE FAIR Finnlines giveaway bags turned out to be very popular one could even say a hit, with nearly 4,000 distributed at the fair. People were queueing for them and they were said to be the smartest bags at the fair. Inspired by the popularity, we decided to have a photo competition in Finnlines social media, with these bags being the main theme. We ask those who obtained one to tell us with pictures where their bags have been wandering. Those with the best photos will be invited to the Vuosaari Harbour to visit a Star class ship. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Finnlines collaborates and interacts with different stakeholders and organisations. During 2017, Finnlines was an official Finland 100 partner and supported the Aamu Pediatric Cancer Foundation which specialises in oncological research for children, with EUR 50,000. In Tetbury, England, we supported a local project, where an old Finnish State Railways carriage is being restored to its former glory. We also made a Christmas donation to the Baltic Sea Action Group. BSAG acts as an initiator and catalyst for concrete acts to tackle the challenges to the Baltic Sea. 8 The new Our Ports series introduces some of our visiting ports. We begin with Kapellskär, the most northern port of Ports of Stockholm and Naantali, one of the busiest port in Finland in terms of truck and trailer traffic. The series will continue in the upcoming Finnlines News issues. Explore the Archipelago Come and experience peaceful travelling on a passenger-freight vessel. With Finnlines you can reach Långnäs harbour, east of Mariehamn, from Naantali or Kapellskär, all year round. We offer two departures a day from all three ports. The travel time from Kapellskär to Långnäs is 3.5 hours and from Kapellskär to Naantali via Långnäs 8 9 hours. On the route Kapellskär Naantali two rich meals from the buffet are included in the price and on the route Kapellskär Långnäs one meal. MODERN PORTS The Port of Kapellskär is already fully modernised and the Port of Naantali has an ongoing investment programme to create advanced infrastructure. Thanks to the modernisation work in Naantali and Kapellskär we can optimise the use of our vessels and routes. These investments will strengthen Finnlines services and we can serve our customers even better and meet their growing demand for top quality cargo and passenger services, says Tom Pippingsköld, CFO, Finnlines Plc. MORE NORTHERN STAR CLASS EXPERIENCE At the end of April, a Star class vessel, MS Finnswan (former MS Nordlink) from the Malmö Travemünde route will be redeployed on Naantali Långnäs Kapellskär route under the Finnish flag. MS Finnswan will be one of the first ships of this length ( m) and cargo capacity (4,200 lane metres) to serve our customers between Finland and Sweden. She will enjoy a refurbishment in the public areas to increase the customer wellbeing onboard. The Scandinavian impression and a fresh look will harmonise the vessels atmosphere. It offers the fastest maritime freight route from Finland to Sweden. In 2017, Port of Naantali started construction works to extend an existing quay to 228 metres in order to create additional vessel handling infrastructure. Photo: Ports of Stockholm KAPELLSKÄR is situated approximately 90 km north of Stockholm, 20 km east of Norrtälje and 90 km east of Uppsala. The E18 runs all the way to the Port of Kapellskär. During the Port of Kapellskär was modernised. Among other things a new 245 metre-long pier was built and the two existing piers were reconstructed. The port went from three to five modern quay-berths. 8

Due to the port s significant investments in ferry traffic, the unitised cargo is increasing rapidly. Today, Naantali is the fourth largest ferry port for trucks and trailers in Finland. In line with the major trends shaping sea traffic in the Baltic among others, the introduction of bigger ships our port will lengthen the ro-ro berths nos. 26 and 27 from 148 to 198, and from 178 up to 228 metres, respectively, says Yrjö Vainiala, Port of Naantali s COO & Commercial Director.
