Issue 2/2018 seq. no. 23 Editor in Chief: Printed by: Published by: Finnlines K-Print news Finnlines Plc Komentosilta 1 FI Helsinki press@finnlines.com Address changes: Printed in May Circulation: 15,500 copies AT FINNLINES WE ARE WITNESSING WHAT YOU COULD CALL THE TRAILERISATION of the transport chain: an accelerating phenomenon driven by a desire to circumvent problems encountered by those who over-rely on door-to-door trucking. Road haulage is in some of our markets struggling under the weight of regulation and sporadic border bottlenecks. Residents in countries such as Estonia are understandably unhappy to see their roadways clogged by heavy vehicles that add little or no value. Heavy-vehicle transit traffic also comes at a cost in terms of urban pollution and car accidents. EUROPEAN UNION AUTHORITIES ARE CRACKING DOWN on operators that do not comply with rules on maximum driving time, or minimum rest periods. As enforcement of these rules becomes more strict, fly-by-night operators that base their business model on irregular contracts paying just a few euros per hour will find it increasingly difficult to compete.

THE TRAILER SOLUTION COME ALSO WITH THE ADDED ADVANTAGE OF QUICKER PORT TURNAROUND TIMES. On medium and short routes transportation costs for trailers are often more competitive when compared to the container industry. Terminal tariffs applied on trailers are much leaner and more transparent than container ones, removing the numerous handling, moving, lift-on, lift-off, demurrage freight surcharges usually invoiced on container units. The trailer solution come also with the added advantage of quicker port turnaround times: essential for shippers relying on just-in-time deliveries. E TRAILER REVOLUTION Trucking unions are fed up with unfair competition, and border authorities are in some cases clamping down on the issuance of licences (such as in Poland, Belarus and Russia). Increases in the price of gasoline, road tolls, fiscal harmonization (reducing the ability to forum shop ) and even restrictions on fuel tank sizes will inevitably add to operating costs. Shortsea shipping, for these reasons, is a solution, whether it be for accompanied or unaccompanied loads. OPERATORS ENTRUSTING BUSINESS TO FINN- LINES BENEFIT from low handling costs and fewer delays. Trailers can either be dropped off at one of our terminals or accompanied on our fleet by a driver who can take advantage of the crossing to rest, as EU law requires. The operators our partners that have ridden this favourable trend by investing in logistics hubs (in Finland, in particular) are gaining market share from their competitors. THE TRAILERISATION TREND, accompanied by an economic upswing in Finnlines key markets, has resulted in double-digit volume growth in the first months of this year. Higher volumes have also happily coincided with our ship lengthening programme. When complete, six vessels will have been lengthened, bringing online another six thousand linear metres of rolling cargo: the equivalent of two sizeable vessels. Three of these lengthened vessels will connect Europe s Atlantic coast and Russia, where the economy is benefiting from higher oil prices and therefore increased purchasing power. The St. Petersburg region alone, let us not forget, is home to around 15 million people. Exports from countries like Finland, Benelux, Spain will benefit from these changes. THE FINNLINES TRANSRUSSIAEXPRESS, first established in the 1990s between Germany and Russia, will also be upgraded by the end of this year. Shippers to and from Russia can use both the Finnlines network and the larger Grimaldi network to plug into markets across the continent and beyond. Another capacity increase of more than 1,000 lane metres will come online this summer between Sweden and Finland to alleviate pressure for cargo space. Our Finnlines Germany subsidiary, meanwhile, has established a separate logistics office to handle trailer transhipments across different modes. Meanwhile, another three large green vessels have been ordered from yards and will add up further 17,500 lane metres to Finnlines services. THE CONTAINER REVOLUTION changed trade patterns globally in the 1960s. While modest by comparison, at Finnlines we are betting that a trailer revolution will pay dividends for well-positioned companies, like ours, in the years to come. WHEREAS THE RISE OF PROTECTIONISM on inter-continental trades raises long-term concerns, intra-european traffic remains strong and full of growth potential. 3

A TURNING POINT GHG EMISSIONS TO REDUCE BY 50% PARIS AGREEMENT FOR SHIPPING REACHED THE INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANIZATION (IMO), WHICH HAS 173 MEMBER STATES, SET AN AMBITIOUS LEVEL FOR FUTURE CO 2 EMISSIONS IN APRIL THE GOAL IS TO REDUCE CO 2 EMISSIONS BY AT LEAST 50% BY 2050 COMPARED TO 2008, WHICH IS IN LINE WITH THE PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT S GOAL TO LIMIT WARMING TO 1.5ºC. The decision was applauded by the shipping industry as it advocates global measures instead of regional regulations. The International Chamber of Shipping has pointed out that current CO 2 emissions are about 8% lower than in 2008 despite a 30% increase in maritime trade. However, the vision is to phase out CO 2 emissions as soon as possible during this century. Many Pacific island states suggested full decarbonisation by 2050, Marshall Islands by as early as PATHWAYS TO ZERO-CARBON SHIPPING Basically three types of measures will reduce shipping s carbon emissions. Technological measures consist of use of light materials, SHIPS TOTAL FUEL CONSUMPTION HAS REDUCED BY NEARLY 30% SINCE slender design, and waste heat recovery. Operational measures refer to slower speed, use of onshore power and smooth ship-port interface, which relates to reduction of ship s waiting time during port calls. Fuel savings vary from 1 to 60%, depending on the measure adopted. Finally, promising alternative fuel and energy options can be considered. It may seem that there are myriads of options to cut emissions, but some of them also have negative impacts, for instance LNG due to its methane emissions. Other options, like hydrogen, still require research, particularly to make them commercially viable. It can be concluded that a mix of measures will be needed. Technological and operational innovations, alternative fuels and energies should be combined. Shipping organizations also turn to governments which should provide financial incentives for green shipping. ENHANCED ENERGY EFFICIENCY STEP BY STEP Throughout the years, Finnlines has made efforts to reduce ships energy consumption through optimal speed, load, trim and timetable planning. The underwater hulls have been 4

Finnlines invests in ultra-clean vessels brushed and cleaned at regular intervals to remove micro-organisms which accumulate on the hull, slowing the speed and increasing fuel consumption. On two ro-ro passenger ships, which operate in ice-free conditions in Southern Baltic, the latest generation of silicone hull paints has been applied. During Finnlines invested in propulsion and reblading, optimizing propeller blades on nine vessels. A total of six rorovessels, built in , will be lengthened by the end of 2018 and the capacity increase, which is around 30%, will decrease the energy consumption per transported unit compared to the original vessel. In conclusion, ships total fuel consumption has reduced by nearly 30% since Finnlines has ordered three new green ro-ro vessels to respond to increasing demand for freight transport. The total investment is over EUR 200 million. The first ships are set for delivery in The ships have been designed WE ARE AIMING FOR HIGH ENERGY EFFICIEN- CY AND ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLINESS. in cooperation with Danish marine designer Knud E. Hansen and are to be built at the Chinese Jinling shipyard. The new vessels will be 238 metres long with a cargo capacity of 5,800 lane metres. In addition, car decks have a capacity of 5,600 m 2. The ships will have the highest Finnish-Swedish Super 1A ice class. Vessels will be equipped with scrubbers and will produce zero emissions while in port, as the ships will be fitted with a high-powered battery bank. Savings in fuel consumption will be achieved through the hull shape, the propeller-rudder system and the air lubrication system under the keel to reduce friction. The vessels will be among the most modern and environmentally friendly ships in the Baltic Sea. We are aiming for high energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. These vessels will offer us the lowest possible fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, which is in line with our investments in sustainable development. Over the last 10 years, we have invested more than a billion euros in renewal of vessels, says Emanuele Grimaldi, President and CEO of Finnlines. 5

Finnlines improves brand awareness through cooperation The long-standing cooperation between Finnlines and VisitFinland is bearing fruit. Interest in Finland and getting to know Finnlines is also growing in German-speaking Europe. Tourism to Finland and utilisation of Finnlines passenger services are increasing satisfyingly. Last year, the number of nights spent in Finland by German tourists grew by 15.3%, the registered guest nights totalling 662,991. This was also reflected in Finnlines passenger volumes, which increased by nearly 3% on the Company s three routes providing passenger services. THE NUMBER OF NIGHTS SPENT IN FINLAND BY GERMAN TOURISTS GREW BY 15.3% FINNLINES HOSTING GERMAN JOURNALISTS AND BLOGGERS In addition to the events, the media s representatives were invited to come to Finland and get to know Finnlines services. Alongside group trips, individual journalists and bloggers have also travelled on our ships to visit Finland and elsewhere in Scandinavia and to write travel articles. Themes of the trips, in addition to the Finnish nature, included, for example, Helsinki and a very important celebration for Finns in spring May Day (First of May). Aland as a holiday destination for families attracted a blogger family specialising in family tourism to test both our Travemünde Helsinki and Naantali Långnäs Kapellskär routes. SAUNA AND MIDSUMMER CELEBRATIONS The cooperation between Finnlines and VisitFinland on the German market has taken place in events addressed to the general public as well as activities focusing on tourism-industry professionals and the media. In the framework of the Slow Finland campaign, tourists were attracted by Finland in various ways, with the key themes being clean natural environment, space and unhurried lifestyle, with sauna as an integral element. During the year, an impressive sauna on wheels was touring around Germany. Other Finnish traditions and customs were also introduced to many avid travellers. Midsummer celebrations were brought to the middle of Berlin, when a true Midsummer festival with summery decorations, accordion music and sauna, not forgetting Finnish food, was arranged for the media and tourism-industry professionals in the Finnish Embassy. In these events Finnlines role has been more than just to raise its profile and tell about its services. Most of the materials related to the events, including the sauna on wheels, were transported from Finland to Germany on Finnlines vessels. Sauna on wheels was touring around Germany Over the past 16 months, 30 German journalists and bloggers have become familiar with our services. Their articles have reached around 1.8 million German readers and followers. Even the most experienced travellers have praised the new look and services on our Star class ships in their blogs and articles. Alongside that, articles are usually about travel opportunities offered by Finnlines, vessels passenger compartments and the ship s cuisine as well as the relaxed atmosphere of a true sea voyage and its gentle pace, so very important to people today. 7

Långnäs Uusikaupunki Naantali Turku Hanko Helsinki Paldiski Kotka St. Petersburg Full service and smooth operations Hanko as the southernmost city in Finland has always been an attractive port for shipping, as it is the port closest to continental Europe. Since Hanko is quite a small town with some 9,200 residents, the port and its activities have a large role in people s lives and identities, and gives the town its spirit. This is also the guideline for the services Finnlines provide in Hanko. Finnlines stevedoring and customer services in Hanko are operated by Stevena, which is a port operating company that produces cargo handling, storage and other logistics services. You can see and perceive the spirit at Stevena s Service Desk; helpful advice with a genuine interest in shipping, smooth and efficient operations. Finnlines calls Hanko with two lines, Hanko Gdynia three times a week, and Hanko Rostock four times a week. THE PORT OF GDYNIA is a universal modern port specialising in handling general cargo, mainly unitized cargo transported in containers and in a ro-ro system, based on the well-developed network of multimodal connections including hinterland, regular Short Sea Shipping Lines as well as ferry connections (ferry terminal). Freight customers Booking by customer.service.pl@finnlines.com Phone: Freight sales: sales.pl@finnlines.com Address: Main office Finnlines Polska Sp. z o.o. Al.Solidarniści 1C Gdynia CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH A HAPPY SMILE Stevena Oy has been providing stevedoring and customer services for these lines since March 2017, and its goal has been to provide efficient and flexible stevedoring services. To keep the vessels on schedule is their highest priority. The front of Stevena s operations in Hanko is the Service Desk, located in the Gatehouse just outside the Western Harbour, providing customer service and information to drivers delivering or collecting cargoes in the port. The Gatehouse also provides basic services to truck drivers: shower, toilets and cooking facilities. All this can be enjoyed with a complementary cup of coffee at the courtesy of the Port of Hanko. The second part of the Desk s role is to provide the stevedores and vessels with up-to-date information on the cargo, to monitor the flow of units in and out of the port and appoint appropriate stevedoring resources where necessary to move cargo units in and out from ships, naturally in close cooperation with the Stevedore foreman. We run quite a light organisation at the desk, but we try to keep a high response rate assisting customers even after duty hours, says Johan Toivari at Stevena s Desk services. The feedback we get face-to-face from customers has for the most part been positive. Customers have expressed their appreciation for our friendly and flexible services. It has taken some time to make the customers aware of the routines at Hanko port, but today I would say we have achieved a well working arrangement, Toivari adds. A PLEASANT PLACE TO DO BUSINESS On the left Johan Toivari (Stevena, Desk services) and Timo Flander (Finnlines, Cargo Superintendent) The Port of Hanko is also currently expanding its premises, and once the construction work is completed Stevena and Finnlines will be able to further enhance the routines for even smoother operation. We aim to be an easily approachable service provider, and with efficient operations and helpful assistance making Finnlines and the Port of Hanko a pleasant place to do business, never so rarely topped off with a smile, Toivari points out. 9

Gdynia, a modern port for general cargo Port of Gdynia is located in the North Central part of polish coast by the Gdansk Bay. It is an ice and tide free, all year round, multipurpose port with terminals dedicated for container, ro-ro, general cargo and bulk cargoes. It is connected with national road network with a two-lane road to the city Ring. The Ring is connected to highway No 1 to Lodz and Poland Czech border and express roads no 6 to Szczecin and Poland Germany border as well as with express road no 7 to Warsaw. There is a direct access to the rail network. THREE CALLS PER WEEK TO HANKO Finnlines vessels use OT Port Gdynia Terminal, a general cargo and ro-ro terminal which offers transshipment, stowing, warehousing and value-added services to all kinds of conventional general cargoes in seaborn trade as well as ro-ro cargoes. Part of the terminal dedicated to ro-ro transshipments spreads along the Basin V of the Gdynia Port. Initiated on the 1st August 2001, it consists of the three modern ramps, newly built or refurbished warehouses, sheds, and strengthened open storage areas. Finnlines ro-ro service connects Poland and hinterland countries with Finland providing fast and regular transport competing successfully with the via Baltica route. Finnlines has operated in this terminal since the beginning, carrying road trailers, lorries, mobile cargoes and conventional break bulk like paper and steel on mafi and cassettes. In 2016, the Poland service increased its frequency to three calls per week and Hanko became the port of call in Finland. That meant increased numbers of cargo to be discharged and loaded within short time in the port. Terminal management and staff have successfully responded to our needs and managed to keep the high level of service required by our customers. DIGITALISATION FOR BETTER SERVICE Automatisation of processes as well as fast and accurate response to customer s needs is the key behind the growing figures of Gdynia Hanko service. With support of IT platforms supplied by Finnlines Plc as well as OT Port Gdynia customers have constant information about whereabouts of their goods. The local Finnlines office acts as a port agent for the vessel, as a sales booking office for the line and offers port forwarding services for some customers so that their goods can be handled in the terminal smoothly. Port of Rostock, serving the Baltic Sea The Port of Rostock is Germany s largest and deepest port in the Southern part of the Baltic Sea. Although not directly located on the sea front it is easily accessible through a short canal. With a water depth of 14.5 metres and absence of locks and tides it is possible for vessels of up to a 45-metre beam and 300-metre length to enter the port. The port is also conveniently accessible by air and by rail and a four-lane motorway, the latter which will also soon connect directly to the eastern port area. It has ferry links with Denmark, Sweden and Finland. MODERN PORT WITH HISTORY Rostock has a long tradition of shipping. In the middle ages, the port on the Warnow River was one of the most important locations for goods transfer on the Baltic Sea. The port has continually expanded and developed and is now in a competitive position. The entire port area covers an impressive area of 750 hectares. There are 11,000 meters of quays available. In total, there are 47 berths of which four, a total of 1,000 meters, are specifically dedicated to heavy loads with lifting capacities up to 1,200 tons by a mobile harbour crane. There are plans for developing more new quay sides and small new industrial sites in the port and there are also hectares available around the port. Today, the Port of Rostock is a modern and competitive port: in recent years, the port has invested a lot in the infrastructure and the improvement of processes. 10
