To rid the ship recycling industry of its worst excesses, both the International Maritime Organization and the European Union have issued regulation. The IMO Hong Kong Convention lays down minimum conditions designed to protect workers and the local environment. The Grimaldi Group believes the Convention is the gold standard and should therefore be ratified immediately by governments around the world to ensure effective implementation. In parallel, the EU, with its Ship Recycling Regulation, has decided to compile a list of approved recycling yards meeting the highest standards. By the end of this year at the latest, EU-flagged end-of-life ships can by law only be broken up at yards on this list. The dividing line between a facility that makes the list and one that doesn t will therefore have commercial repercussions; the need to meet the new regulatory requirement has spawned a whole industry of experts, and also speculators. Most dismantling capacity, it should be noted, is to be found today in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, China and Turkey. There is talk of a revival of the European ship recycling industry, but existing capacity is small because the EU has in recent decades specialised in high-value ship construction, in particular cruise ships. Finding a yard in Europe that is both willing and able to demolish end-oflife vessels can actually be problematic; we experienced this when looking for a recycler capable of handling one of the ageing G3 vessels operated by our sister company ACL. She was simply too big for European yards, and as a result the business went to India. You can read more about ACL s recycling efforts in this issue of G-News. To ensure the vessel was broken up in an environmentally sound way, ACL installed a site team to monitor every aspect of the operation. In the absence of a viable European alternative, we are as a Group obliged to continue to consider Asian yards for our recycling business, which will increase as our fleet is renewed. At the same time, and in line with our corporate social responsibility policy, we believe it is our duty to ensure that the breakers yards we consider meet the highest environmental and safety standards. The yards where our end-of-life vessels are broken up should be certified by a high quality European classification society, which means compliancy with both ISO quality standards and ISO sound ship recycling standards. Facilities should also appear on the EU-approved list, once it is published. Elsewhere in this issue of G-News you can read about our latest Euro-Med convention, which took place in Sardinia last September. There, to our 600 guests, we revealed details of our next round of investments: 10 giant roros which, thanks to innovative lithium batteries, will boast zero emissions pollution when at berth. In the last four years we have increased our capital expenditure to over Euro 2 billion. You can also read about the delivery of the latest PCTC, now deployed between the Mediterranean and North America, and the awards with which clients and partners continue to honour us.

3 FLEET Delivery of the New York The PCTC is deployed on the Mediterranean-North America route. Christening of sister vessel Baltimora During a short ceremony held last 31 st October at the Chinese shipyards of Jinling in Nanjing, the Pure Car & Truck Carrier New York was delivered to the Grimaldi Group. The event was attended by a few representatives of the shipyard as well as by some Grimaldi officials. Second of a series of three sister units, the New York has a length of meters, a width of meters, a gross tonnage of 63,000 tonnes and a cruising speed of 19 knots. The new Italian-flag unit can carry 6,700 CEU (Car Equivalent Units) or alternatively 4,000 linear meters of rolling freight and 2,500 CEU. The New York is equipped with four hoistable decks which make her an extremely flexible vessel, able to transport any type of rolling cargo (cars, vans, trucks, tractors, buses, excavators, etc.) up to 5.2 meters height. In addition, the vessel has two access ramps, a side ramp and a quarter stern ramp, the latter allowing the loading of freight units Costantino Baldissara, Commercial, Logistics & Operations Director of the Grimaldi Group with Carol Ann White, godmother of the vessel. with a weight up to 150 tons. The unit is a highly performing ship from an environmental point of view: she is fitted with an electronically-controlled (Man Diesel & Turbo) main engine that allows to comply with the new regulations for reducing NO x emissions, while the installed scrubber reduces sulphur oxide (SO x ) emissions. Moreover, she is equipped with a ballast water treatment unit, allowing her to meet future international regulations on the matter. The New York is part of a program aiming to enhance the maritime links between the Mediterranean and North America, launched by our Group in recent years with the deployment of ever-modern, highly flexible and environmentally friendly vessels, said Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Grimaldi Group. The New York is currently deployed on the weekly ro-ro service operated by the Group between the Mediterranean and North America. The ports served by the maritime link are: Gemlik (Turkey), Gioia Tauro (Italy), Civitavecchia (Italy), Savona (Italy), Halifax, New York, Baltimore, Veracruz (Mexico) and Antwerp (Belgium). Meanwhile, last 31 st of October, the Baltimora, sister vessel of the New York, made her inaugural trip to the US port of Baltimore where she was welcomed by a large delegation composed of civil and maritime authorities, among which John Wobensmith, Secretary of State for the State of Maryland, and James White, Executive Director of the Maryland Port Administration, customers, port operators, managers of the Grimaldi Group and of its daughter company Atlantic Container Line. Carol Ann White, wife of James White, was the godmother of the vessel. During the ceremony, John Wobensmith handed over to Costantino Baldissara, Commercial, Logistics & Operations Director of the Grimaldi Group, a Governor s Citation on behalf of the Governor of the State of Maryland, as a recognition of the 50-year fruitful relationship between the Port of Baltimore and the Grimaldi Group. The Baltimora is currently deployed on the Mediterranean-North America weekly ro-ro service operated by the Group. The next vessel to be delivered to the Group is the Halifax, scheduled for January GNEWS 3

4 TERMINALS Grimaldi expands its presence in Savona The Group signs an agreement for the purchase of the agency Marittima Spedizioni The Grimaldi Group extends its logistics-port network through the acquisition of the shipping agency Marittima Spedizioni s.r.l., operating in the port of Savona since A historical partner of the Group for the handling of rolling cargo (cars, vans, trucks, etc.), containers and passengers in Savona, Marittima Spedizioni is the owner of Savona Terminal Auto s.r.l., concessionaire and terminal operator in the Ligurian port. Located in the area of Darsena Alti Fondali and in a short distance from the quay, Savona Terminal Auto operates on 120,000 square metres, out of which 10,000 are covered, with a storage capacity of over 10,000 cars. With a potential annual traffic of 250,000 vehicles, the terminal is one of the privileged points of import and export in Northern Italy for the major global car manufacturers and it aims to be an integrated center of services to the car industry, as well as a hub for the Motorways of the Sea. The number of employees of Marittima Spedizioni is about 70 people who deal with administrative and yard management activities. "Savona is today one of the main Italian centers for maritime traffic related to the automotive sector", affirms Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Grimaldi Group. "We have therefore chosen to expand our presence along the entire supply chain, investing in the port of Savona, to support our traffic flows and offer our customers not only maritime but also integrated logistics services ", concludes Emanuele Grimaldi. Savona Terminal Auto joins the extensive network of over 20 port terminals in 12 countries worldwide which are operated by Grimaldi Group companies. There are numerous maritime services offered by the Grimaldi Group to and from the port of Savona for the transport of rolling freight. Currently, the Ligurian port is linked to Spain and Morocco with several Motorways of the Sea, as well as to Northern Europe, the Mediterranean and North America, through the Euro- Aegean and the Med-North America multi-purpose ro/ro services. Finally, the Grimaldi Group operates a regular ro-ro passenger link between Savona, Barcelona and Tangier. 4 GNEWS

5 CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ACL corporate policy on ship recycling Atlantic Container Line (ACL), a Grimaldi Group company, has always been committed to operate its vessels in compliance with the highest environmental and safety standards. ACL was one of the very first carriers to have its entire fleet certified for compliance with the ISO standards for environmental protection and safety. When time came to renew its fleet of G3 vessels, ACL spent a great deal of time, effort and financial resources to develop a new ship design, the G4, that not only eliminated all engine emissions - far ahead of the existing international standards - but also reduced its fuel consumption per TEU by more than 50%. Regarding the disposal of each of its older vessels, ACL has always tried to first find a buyer or charterer in Asia who would operate the vessels outside ACL s main trading area. When that proved to be unsuccessful, the company had no other option but to recycle the said units. The company has always tried to find a recycling facility that would be both large enough to fit these large vessels, the biggest ro/ro ships worldwide, and which would meet the highest environmental and safety standards. This restricted the list of yards dramatically and severely limited ACL s bargaining power on prices. Looking at industry practices, it is a fact that none of ACL s competitors have recycled a ship in Europe for many years, due to the lack of large enough facilities. The major European lines have all chosen India or China (as recent as 2017), so ACL looked there as well. For the G3-class vessels Atlantic Conveyor and Atlantic Cartier, ACL chose an Indian yard that met the highest environmental and safety standards. The facility was certified by RINA, a high quality European Classification society, as being an environmentally responsible ship recycler, that is (1) compliant with every single provision of the Hong Kong Convention (HKC) and in accordance with IMO Resolution MEPC 210 (63) Guidelines for Safe and Environmentally Sound Ship Recycling; (2) ISO quality certified; (3) ISO Certified for environmentally sound ship recycling operations; and (4) expected to be on the EU list of approved recycling facilities, once that list is eventually published. To further ensure that the ship recycling facility adhered to all the required standards, ACL installed a site team to monitor every aspect of the operation. The ships were already certified to be asbestosfree so that was never an issue, but the company ensured also that all liquids were pumped out and disposed of properly and that all staff was deployed in accordance with the stringent safety and labour practices of the HKC. The international rules and regulations concerning the recycling of vessels have been undergoing a period of change during the past few years, which has not been easy to navigate through. ACL looks forward to the full ratification and implementation of the Hong Kong Convention along with the complete worldwide list of EU-approved recycling facilities. When that happens there will be full clarity on the issue, with each carrier treated the same way. As we move forward into 2018, ACL will finally have its full fleet of emissionsfree, fuel-conserving G4-class vessels deployed in a reliable, weekly fixed-day service on the North America-North Europe trades. ACL s customers will have the confidence of not only having the most punctual, dependable service in the trade, but also the service with the smallest environmental footprint in its trade. That goes not just for some of ACL s vessels, but ALL of its vessels. GNEWS 5

7 EVENTS Knud E. Hansen) and Dario Bocchetti (Energy Saving Manager of the Grimaldi Group). In his presentation, Emanuele Grimaldi illustrated his understanding of the future of the maritime industry. Environmental sustainability is a moral imperative that imposes itself on all operators in the sector towards the planet and future generations that will inhabit it. It is also an indispensable factor for growth and survival in economic terms. The challenge recently launched by the International Maritime Organization and the International Chamber of Shipping is in fact, a final goal by 2050, the reduction of a 40% of CO 2 emissions produced by maritime transport. This is an ambitious objective, which will need to be achieved independently of the traffic trends, the growth in volumes and the new technologies that will become available, said Emanuele Grimaldi. Environmental pollution not only compromises our conscience and our image. In the short term, it entails high fuel costs and the risk of administrative sanctions. In the long term, it makes us uncompetitive because it causes exponential growth in operating costs, he added. Furthermore, Emanuele Grimaldi announced the future investments of the Group favouring sustainable transport: In the last year we have ordered 6 greenships of the last generation, while we have already opted for the construction of another four ships with the same characteristics: these 10 new ro-ro ships, the first of which will be delivered in 2020, will reduce at zero the polluting emissions while berthing at port, thanks to the presence onboard of innovative mega lithium batteries. On the ro-pax front, I am happy to announce an investment of 60 million euros for the lengthening of the two twin cruise ferries Cruise Roma and Cruise Barcelona, that will increase their transport capacity from 3,000 to 3,500 passengers. Concluding: In the last four years, the Grimaldi Group invested 2 billion euros by building 25 green units and 0,3 billion euros for about 150 retrofit operations on its fleet, with the aim to reduce their environmental emissions. Our fleet reduced its Co 2 emissions by 9% in only six years, while in the same period sulfur emissions were reduced by 24%. Emanuele Grimaldi s presentation was followed by two panel debates the first focused on how to make maritime transport sustainable GNEWS 7

8 EVENTS in the long-term. The second panel was devoted to the Italian economy and how to secure its structural growth in a challenging and fast-paced world. The first panel debate titled Reaching a global and regional sustainable maritime transport by 2050 and moderated by Alfons Guinier, Former Secretary General of ECSA, had as panelists Patrick Verhoeven (Managing Director of Policy and Strategy of IAPH), Mikael Makinen (President Marine of Rolls Royce), Peter Weiss (Head of Supply Chain Management and Global SCM Coordinator of Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles), Ennio Cascetta (Managing Director of RAM - Rete Autostrade Mediterranee), Lorenzo Matacena (Chairman of the Environment Committee of Confitarma) and Emanuele Grimaldi. The debate was centred on issues related to the environment, and the several new challenges, which the maritime industry will have to tackle. The legal framework and infrastructure, 8 GNEWS

The second panel debate, entitled The conditions for a worldwide structural growth of the Italian economy, moderated by the Director of the Italian weekly magazine Panorama Giorgio Mulè, saw the participation of Massimo Deiana (President of the Port System Authority of the Sea of Sardinia), Andrea Annunziata (President of the Port System Authority of the Sea of Eastern Sicily), Vincenzo Boccia (President of Confindustria), Costantino Baldissara (Commercial, Logistics and Operations Director di Grimaldi Group) and Guido Grimaldi (Corporate Short Sea Shipping Commercial Director and President of Alis). The main topics discussed were the new port authority system in Italy, where the resources of single port entities were recently combined into authorities that govern multiple seaports in order to foster a system that is more concerned with teamwork and joint projects rather than unnecessary competition. This will be important for the future of maritime traffic, particularly if shipping will continue to make a logistical s difference, particularly in Southern Europe (e.g. for shipments between Italy and Spain), as well as with its partners in the North will be more and more interconnected. 10 ACHIEVEMENTS Group gets the Leadership Excellence Award In the prestigious setting of the Harvard Club of New York, last 1 st of November, the Grimaldi Group was prized by the Italian magazine Panorama with the Leadership Excellence Award. The award ceremony took place during the gala dinner of the event This is Italy, parts unknown, held in the framework of the Panorama of Italy tour, which had for the first time this year a stage abroad. The event, which lasted three days, set as a goal to introduce the Italian excellence to the American audience, focusing the spotlight on areas where the Made in Italy performance is certainly outstanding, such as fashion, art, culture and food. The Grimaldi Group was rewarded with other Italian brands, entrepreneurs, intellectuals, representatives of the world of music, fashion and gastronomy. The Naples-based Group was defined by the magazine Panorama as an example of Italian distinction worldwide and an expression of excellence over the seas. It is a great honor for us to be counted among the excellence of Made in Italy, said Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Grimaldi Group. I m very flattered that this award goes to the Grimaldi Group, because it rewards our commitment to provide even more extensive and efficient transport services to all import/export companies operating on the American continent, he concluded. The Group receives the SMAU 2017 Innovation Award Last 23 rd of October, during the Smau 2017 held in Milan, an important event in the innovation and digital sectors for Italian companies, the Grimaldi Group received the Smau 2017 Innovation Award. The Group was awarded for the innovative aspects implemented in its new disaster recovery system in the IT field. In order to ensure the provision of corporate services considered "Mission Critical" even in case of extreme events, the Group had the need to reorganize its entire infrastructure related to the aspects of disaster recovery and business continuity. The company, with its technological partner CloudItalia, adopted a Hybrid Cloud solution, which allowed it to expand the IT system perimeter by extending its data center and outsourcing part of the IT functions to a Cloud Provider partner. The disaster recovery system started operating in 2017 and has been extended to all business application systems, even those not "Mission Critical". The choice of Disaster Recovery as a Service has enabled the Group to adopt an efficient and cost-effective Disaster Recovery strategy, allowing significant savings by avoiding the purchase of new hardware and additional software licenses, and avoiding an increase in the number of employees of Grimaldi's IT staff, which is now able to ensure the operational continuity of the service. While receiving the award, Giulio Capacchione, EDP Manager of the Grimaldi Group, affirmed: We are proud to have managed to realise a solution of Disaster Recovery as a Service by adopting a model of Hybrid Cloud to guarantee the functioning of the Group s IT System always and in any case. 10 GNEWS

12 EVENTS 50 years of Grimaldi presence in Israel has been a very special 2017 year for Grimaldi, having the Group celebrated 70 years of activities. It has also marked half of a century of presence in Israel and of a fruitful cooperation with its local agent and representative Allalouf Group. Both anniversaries were celebrated by both companies during an event which was held on the 31 st of October at the prestigious Jaffa Tel Aviv Restaurant run by Chef Chaim Cohen. Attending the event were about a hundred participants, with guest of honour the Israeli Minister of Transport and Intelligence Israel Katz while the major customers and leading businessmen in the Israeli automotive sector were also present. In his welcome speech, Nathan Allalouf underlined that the Grimaldi and Allalouf families have always been linked by both business and personal relations, especially between late Guido Grimaldi and Jacky Alallouf (father of Nathan). Particularly, he mentioned that the Grimaldi Group was one of the very few shipping companies to continue calling at Israeli ports in hard times, even during the Yom Kippur War of He also highlighted that Grimaldi s businesses in Israel are the core of Allalouf s activities. Israel Katz, Minister of Transport and Intelligence, reminded in his speech that Israel is in the process of building new ports in Haifa and Ashdod, stating that this would strengthen Israel and its maritime activities. He also highly appreciated Grimaldi s loyalty to Israel, both in peaceful and harsh times. Manlio Morrica also addressed the event on behalf of the Grimaldi Group, stating that throughout the years Grimaldi transported to Israel over 2 million vehicles (cars, vans, trucks, heavy equipment, etc), underlining that nowadays, about 200 thousand vehicles which represent about 2/3 of all the volume being shipped into Israel are offloaded from a Grimaldi ship every year. At the end of the event Nathan Allalouf gave Luigi Pacella Grimaldi, representing the Grimaldi family, a certificate of appreciation attesting to the planting of 70 trees in Jerusalem s forests, to commemorate the 70 th anniversary of the foundation of the Grimaldi Group. 12 GNEWS
