41 A big Thank Yo... for yor nderstanding On Boxing Day 2015, or beatif Cader and Rybrn vaeys were hit by severe fooding for the second time that month; the fooding was the worst seen for many decades. Many thosands of homes and bsinesses were affected, and or warehosing faciity hit very hard.. The food water that tore throgh or warehose faciity was neary six feet deep; the force of the water demoished a compete section of wa and destroyed two bridges that were attached to it. The scenes that greeted s the foowing morning after waters had receded were those of devastation. We had sffered severe stock oss and significant strctra damage to or warehosing operation. The cear-p operation began immediatey. Or team worked tireessy in cod, dim and wet conditions. We were extremey fortnate to have acqired or own premises in ate 2015, which was nderway with significant refrbishment at the time of fooding. We had been abe to move a fair proportion of or stock safey to the new premises ahead of the food warnings bt, nfortnatey, mch stock cod not be moved in time. We worked with no mains power for over a month, operating on emergency generator after the New Year. These were extremey diffict working conditions for or staff as a the admin work carried on at the origina office, bt the warehosing had to be done from the new ocation.. It took neary five f weeks to compete and record the stock figres, rearange the stock in the new premises and cear p the warehose areas. Dring this frstrating period we were not abe to pick or despatch any orders. Once stock-take was compete the orders started to be picked and despatched.. After the stock figres were finaised, we were aso then abe to start the painf process of ordering repacement stock. We ost a ot of stock, with a arge nmber of ranges being a tota oss. Most of or prodcts are cstom-made for s, with restant ead times of p to five months. Not ony do we have a fantastic team working for the company, we aso work with a fantastic team of sppiers. As soon as we were abe to contact them, the sitation was expained and a pending orders broght forward as priority. Once we were abe to pace orders for repacement stock, these were aso prioritised for s with the rest that ead times were haved, meaning that we were rapidy getting partia sppy of many ranges within weeks rather than months. There were some items that sti took a whie to fit into prodction schedes and eft s withot stock for a cope of months. As of BSAVA Congress 2016 we had shef stock of virtay a stock ines and were abe to ffi orders as norma. There were sti significant operationa constraints as we contined to work between two different sites and we had a massive back-og of re-packing to do... Athogh the company owes a massive debt of gratitde to its staff for ptting in sch efforts in the most appaing conditions, and to or sppiers for going the extra mie for s in or hor of need, it is to yo, or cstomers, that we owe the most..
