31 Gossary (continued) Hard-anodized Hardness Heat-treated High-carbon A meta, typicay auminum, that has been coated with a protective or decorative ayer of oxide, through a process of eectrochemica conversion. The anodizing process affects the surface as we as the interior of the meta. The anodized parts are quite durabe, do not tarnish, resist abrasions and maintain their cosmetic appearance for a ong period of time. The measure of hardness for too stees is most commony done with a Rockwe tester (see Rockwe ). The best hardness for a given stee is not necessariy the best for another. Generay, stee bades shoud be hardened to the high 50s or ow 60s on the Rockwe C scae. A treatment used on auminum and stainess stee whereby making the materia more durabe and wear-resistant. A stee with.5 Carbon or more. S2 Too Stee Satin Finish Scae Sheath The S stands for Shock Resisting Too Stees. These stees have 0.45 to 0.55 % carbon. High-carbon Stainess Hoow Ground Liner-Lock Lockback Any stainess stee used to make a knife bade must be high carbon to make a quaity knife. High carbon stainess stee wi stain no stee is truy stainess though ess so than other stees. The concave area on the bade surface is ground on a round surface (the face of a whee). This forms a hoow just above the beginning of the sharpening beve and just beow the back of the bade. Referred to as ocking iner with a Leatherman products.
